Most NTSC-progressive scan games have the progressive routine hidden in the PAL version and you can force it with Nintendont on a Wii for example, I do that with my PAL games, and I mean original discs not back ups, like F-Zero GX, Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart DD, Zelda TP or Soul Calibur 2.

    • @davidste60
      @davidste60 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Wii doesn't have digital output through any of it's ports like some Gamecubes do, so something like this for the Wii isn't possible. There was a board called the Wii dual that you could get soldered to your Wii motherboard and tapped into the chips before the D/A conversion and went straight to HDMI. I don't think they're still being made though. Honestly considering what these 6th gen machines are rendering, I find the Wii2HDMI adapters are fine.

    is this worth it over something like a composite to hdmi converter or something? I have the gamecube that has digital and analog but I'd rather just spend like 10 bucks on a composite to hdmi converter than get a 80 dollar digital adapter if they're going to look pretty much the same. I mean getting to connect to hdmi is nice but a composite to hdmi would do the same.

    • @Madlittlepixel
      @Madlittlepixel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main issue with that would be the possibility of latency. A lot of the composite to hdmi convertors and even component to hdmi convertors introduce an abnormal amount of input lag. For some people it may not be too noticeable, but for some it may be. Id recommend if possible trying to get one of these convertors you are interested in from a place that allows easy returns, just in case it is noticeable to you with the latency issues I speak of. One other thing worth pointing out from my experience with various cheap convertors like those is they wind up having video issues, distortions on screeen, washed out colors, a more blurry image than youd expect. I have tried many of them and each one has had a varying degree of problems with video... its kind of a roll of the dice if you get one that outputs colors and the signal properly.

      It just depends how much of a GameCube fanatic you are. I want the best signal with the proper colors and proper scaling on an hdtv so it is a must in my book. If you have a Wii already though with a progressive scan connection with component cables then look into using Nintendont homebrew and you can force progressive scan mode on any game and it looks more crisp.
