One question my friend, I just got a Sony Trinitron CRT TV and only have composite ports, but I want to upgrade to component ports on my TV so I can make it to better picture quality what do you recommend?
I remember two years ago when I was selling my GameCube (because I just played my GC games on the Wii), I was shocked to see the prices on the official component cable I also had which I bought pretty close to the launch of the GC. Ended up making three times as much on the component cable sale than the actual GameCube.
Awesome, looks great. I am going to have to get these. I still have mine plugged in to my CRT which is how I like it. Glad I held off on those hdmi cables
Glad to see that these produce a good picture. I grabbed a carby component from their last batch of component cables and it had a Q/C issue (red cable wasn't transfering any info) I ended up having to grab the carby HDMI device and a porta HDMI-to-component converter just so I could run it through my component switch. Might grab this now as it would simplify my setup quite a bit.

I think the cost is also going to come into play. If you have a scaler already, then maybe it's worth it to save a little money by getting the component cables and upscaling it with whatever you're using already. If you don't have an scaler, then it's probably more cost effective just getting the straight HDMI port for the system. Awesome! I wouldnt say its being too cheap not getting the OEM, they just expensive.. so its sweet this is a option that I feel is fairly reasonable in price.
@@Madlittlepixel For sure! I couldn't believe someone finally made an aftermarket component cable for the GC. Nintendo designed some special chip in the circuitry that made it all like wizardry to copy. I was like one day man, I'm gonna cry when I buy that thing. LOL
All I want from Nintendo is an HD console that plays: NES SNES N46 NGC Wii GB GBA NDS N3DS games not tided to a subscription service. Basically the virtual Console.
I think I'll pick up a set. I have one of those HDMI adapters that also allows you to hook up Wii component cables and every time I need to hook it up to HDMI to access the menu and change it to a signal that the crt accepts.
This is my biggest issue with the HDMI adapter as well. By default it wants to output 480p and my CRT TV only accepts 480i and 240p signals. It's a shame the HDMI doesn't have memory to set to it default 480i
Looks good. I have the HD adapter, and I'll order the component version when it comes out. I'll leave the component cable version plugged into the TV permanently and that will save me unplugging a HDMI plug every time (it seems the quality is almost the same). Lucky my 10 year old Sony LCD has room for two component cables.
I just like that I happen to have some component cables. And this one does Wii, which I play Game Cube games on, PS2/PS3 and 360. Looks great and it really solved a buzzing issue with the PS2.

I didn't realize that Kaico also made their own GC component cables. Have tried / tested those yet. I saw them on Amazon. Looks like the Kaico HDMI adapter with component cables attached.
When you made the footage comparison between the HDMI and Component with the GBA game, I preferred the slightly less bright image that the component gave. However, the component image was through a retrotink. Do you know if the component cable plugged directly to a TV would give the same default image? Does the HDMI prism have brightness settings in order to match the component's?
Does your PVM not support component? If it supports RGB then it does. You just need to buy some BNC Female connectors and place them on top of the RGB connectors. Also even if it only supports 480i it will still look better than s-video. I know, i have a pvm as well. Sony 1954Q.
Color, using my Nintendo cable connected to a Framemeister is definitely richer/deeper than the HDMI solution (using the one from Kaico). Is it worth the additional $150, probably not. Of course the Framemeister allows for some real fine tuning, but $250 is a chunk of change. I purchased the Japanese version with the D-sub connector which plugs right into the Framemeister. But it came with a component pig tail breakout. Just my luck that Retrofit would come out with a clone cable after I laid out the cash for the Nintendo one. I was wondering why up to this point, no one had made a clone cable.
Are you playing your games in 480p? The Framemeister has issues with 480p and you'd get a better result directly plugged into your TV. The hdmi solution would also have the benefit of removing analog noise from the image. It wouldn't be a huge upgrade, but it would be a noticeable one as the Framemeister kinda sucks with 480p.
@@TheRealGara Yes, running 480p, and the Framemeister looks better than the HDMI option. Unfortunately my 4k tv does not have component input. I do plan to try it with my OSSC, but I don't think it will get any better.
@@mjmonjure it's easy to get into the realm of diminishing returns, but you should see a noticeable increase in quality even with just 480p passthru on the OSSC vs the Framemeister's noisy 480p>1080p output. You'll also get to try the OSSC's doubling feature and get 480p>960p. I'm not a much of a fan of the very sharp look of 960p though. 480p needs that softness to look right to me.
You know this would be good for switching between use on an HD TV and a SDTV that you can just leave both plugged into the TV, and then just plug either the Prism HDMI adaptor or the component cables in depending on the TV you want to use them on.
I have the official component cables for my GC. I never have my GC hooked up because I've always used my Wii hooked up with component and eveything looks great. Plus my Wii is hacked and I can play GC games that I don't own amongst many other things you can do with a hacked Wii. I have a GBA player for my GC but never use it because I use my PC to emulate GBA which is a better experience. I really have no use for my highly coveted cable lol. With all these great options now I have no idea why the official cables go for so much money. Perhaps I should finally sell mine.
Would you say wii component is the same quality as gc? I am also in the same boat as you so I never need to play my actual gc and so if wii component is basically identical I may as well stick with that
Damn this is what I was waiting for. I think if the tv has component built in then it will provide the best picture quality possible. I think it may look better than the hdmi solutions as well. It seems to in your comparison.
The digital port on the Gamecube converts a digital signal to an analogue one (component). So this component cable would be converting a digital signal to an analogue one, and as a result will introduce a very small amount of noise, and also some input lag. The HDMI versions of the GCHD adapter are digital to digital converters, complete with no noise and virtually zero input lag.
It won't look better than the hdmi solution. It looks better in the video with component because he is using the Retrotink 5x video processor. With a direct connection you'll get 480p on both solutions, but the hdmi will have the benefit of a digital to digital signal without the analog noise. So, yeah, basically buy the component cables if using a video processor or CRT. HDMI if you plan on hooking up direct.
I have read and seen comparisons in the past and ive seen it said that the GameCube has slightly better video quality than some Wii revisions, but overall most people wont notice or care too much. If you are happy with the GameCube on the Wii id think no reason to search out other solutions that may not even be a noticeable improvement for you.
HD Retrovision makes component cables for the SNES and unfortunately the the best picture quality the N64 can output natively is S-Video. Nintendo makes an ok cable but the monster brand S-Video is better but also expensive if you can find one. If you want any higher picture quality out of your N64 it needs modifications.
Buy a Wii Model 001 (GameCube Compatible) get a component cable or hyperkin hd cable plus a M classic to get super sharp image like 1080p to 4k for your GameCube Games Via The Wii.
I wouldnt call that a scalper move, if selling a product no longer manufactured for what its averages on the secondary market due to demand versus availability just seems like how things go with retro items. Scalping is buying up items to cause scarcity to sell for an inflated amount.
In my opinion, the Stereo audio plugs weren't necessary. They could have released the GameCube component cables with just the video connection, and would require the user to use the SNES AV cables only for the audio output.
Holly shit..I got lucky the other day when i went into my local game store.honestly I was looking for castlevania on the switch.i decidese to look around and saw in the corner that they had a copy of Zelda windwakerker, and warioworld new.i worked a deal, and traded some things in,and left cash to get them to hold them till the next day.i went in with the cash and spent a total of 50,plus a few crappy games.i kinda feel like I won the library...
@@cnk9822 I’ve seen plenty pairs sell on eBay for around $20… that’s way cheaper than the ones in this video and incredibly cheaper than the official GameCube ones. You clearly have done zero research or are very confused…

@@Madlittlepixel I was wondering what the Retro-Bit Adaptors would looked like on the Wii since I was thinking of getting the HDMI Adaptor for the Wii for playing GameCube and Wii games on my future streams since my GameCube Disc reader got damaged from reading the discs years ago.
I got mine today, and I did an image to image comparison between it and my Carby Component, and it’s definitely not as good. It’s a tiny bit less sharp and a little dimmer. Which is a bit disappointing, I bought Prism cuz Carby Component couldn’t do 360p GB Interface, and this cable does display 360p GBI properly, but it’s definitely not as good for Gamecube games as my Carby comp. Guess I can’t completely replace the Carby with this, and will have to keep both until there’s a cable that does everything perfectly. But it’s still a decent cable, definitely worth that low price. just not perfect
@@DragonQuarter well I needed prism because RetroTink5x only gets the best out of GBI if you use 360p mode.. Carby component didn’t support that mode at all. With a Carby HDMI you don’t even need a Prism you can just use an hdmi to component converter, in fact it’ll look better than prism, if your hdmi to component converter is good anyway.
I just got a set of these and I have no sound at all. I know it is not the GameCube. I also have a kaico HDMI adapter and I get sound when using that. I also have tried my SNES, Genesis, and PS3 all with HD Retrovision Cabela's in the same tv input and they all work. So it is these cables. Very disappointed and dissatisfied with these.
These cables are not worth the money. A Swiss and GBI developer has proven the left and right audio are swapped, making these essentially identical to the crappy Chinese clones by BitFunx because they are also both using GCVideo-Lite, which is 8 years old now and has a *ton* of bugs. Using a Prism etc. with a cheap DAC from Amazon is a much better solution, or a GCHD MKII with quality Wii cables, which wouldn't be as good as the Prism/Carby HDMI with a converter, but still much better than anything with GCVideo-Lite. UPDATE: the swapped audio channels are being fixed apparently
Help i just got composite cables so anything is better. What should i get? Carby is out of stock and i wanna play my gamecube with better quality 😭 i cant spend 200$ on og component cables though
Hmm, "affordable" you say? $60 is still a 2x upsell when compared to the original GC component cables, which were only $30 way back when they were sold direct via Nintendo's website.

I've got a carby and an eon with dual output that I use wii component cables with my retrotink5x at 1440p and it looks great
Will these cables solve the issue of no sound that I have when I connect by the regular av
Is there input lag from the DAC?
But if I’m using a good tube tv can I use this to get 480p ?
I have the official component cables for my GC. I never have my GC hooked up because I've always used my Wii hooked up with component and eveything looks great. Plus my Wii is hacked and I can play GC games that I don't own amongst many other things you can do with a hacked Wii. I have a GBA player for my GC but never use it because I use my PC to emulate GBA which is a better experience. I really have no use for my highly coveted cable lol. With all these great options now I have no idea why the official cables go for so much money. Perhaps I should finally sell mine.
Would you say wii component is the same quality as gc? I am also in the same boat as you so I never need to play my actual gc and so if wii component is basically identical I may as well stick with that
@@sashoboss2121 I compared both of them on an actual TV and could not see any differences that stood out.
I mean if you’re looking to sell it I wouldn’t mind spending some money for it.
Missed this era.
Why is the screen on the right smaller
Probably because the 5x can scale the image bigger.
Is there like a $14 HDMI converter on Amazon lol
Damn this is what I was waiting for. I think if the tv has component built in then it will provide the best picture quality possible. I think it may look better than the hdmi solutions as well. It seems to in your comparison.
Component looks better on the comparisons.
Thx guys this is what I wanted to know.
@@TheRealGara my hd tv supports component cable will the cables look better or should I just get a prism or carby???
Do it run games at 60 fps with component cuz Ik the Wii cant
Yay! Now someone needs to do the same for the OG Xbox. I know generic ones exist but they all produce video interference cause they suck.
Great idea 👍
Just get the 360 component and solder the xbox og end on. 14 little wires to solder on its not too bad.
@@brianschultz3812 I can do that but not everyone can.
You can find a set of quality OEM Xbox component cables on eBay for around $50.
@@fossil-bit8439 $50 for a set of component cables is expensive when you can get an HDMI cable for the original Xbox for $20.
I play them on Wii with component cables, is there a difference between that and playing in the cube?
I have read and seen comparisons in the past and ive seen it said that the GameCube has slightly better video quality than some Wii revisions, but overall most people wont notice or care too much. If you are happy with the GameCube on the Wii id think no reason to search out other solutions that may not even be a noticeable improvement for you.
does it work for n64 and SNES???
No
HD Retrovision makes component cables for the SNES and unfortunately the the best picture quality the N64 can output natively is S-Video.
Damn never realized the GC wires were 300 plus? 😲
Damn, I should have been greedy and sold my official one before this came out. Maybe it's because I have conscience and can't do the scalper thing.
I wouldnt call that a scalper move, if selling a product no longer manufactured for what its averages on the secondary market due to demand versus availability just seems like how things go with retro items. Scalping is buying up items to cause scarcity to sell for an inflated amount.
It's unlikely to move the prices. All the other solutions only made people want the official ones more. Your cables will still retain their value
I have a retrotink 2x so not enough space for this cable lol
In my opinion, the Stereo audio plugs weren't necessary. They could have released the GameCube component cables with just the video connection, and would require the user to use the SNES AV cables only for the audio output.
Looks cool but, I think I'll stick with my Prism HDMI adapter.
Play your Gamecube games on a cheap Wii with a $10 component cable.
I've always just used my wii. Or I play on a crt with my actual gamecube
The thing is: does this work on a wii?
No, the Wii and Gamecube use different ports for video and are not interchangeable.
@@Madlittlepixel ohh well, thanks for the info.
Uh, Nintendo makes component cables for the Wii….
@@fossil-bit8439 they cost a liver.
@@cnk9822 I’ve seen plenty pairs sell on eBay for around $20… that’s way cheaper than the ones in this video and incredibly cheaper than the official GameCube ones. You clearly have done zero research or are very confused…
So... what's wrong with using a backwards compatible Wii instead? I bought one of those for way less than 60 bucks.
The best solution.
Who said there was anything wrong with using a Wii? Your preference isnt everyones, people prefer one or the other for various reasons.
Can't use GameBoy player on Wii.
Anyone tried a GC scart cable ?
Unfortunately, by the time pre-orders opened, I had already put the Eon GCHD on my Christmas wish list, and I ended up getting the GCHD, and a week after Christmas, I ordered the HD Retrovision Wii component cables. So unless it's for research, this Retro-Bit component cable is out of the question for me (for now).
Thats a great solution as well... just a bit pricey. If thats the setup you have no reason to really look elsewhere.
@@Madlittlepixel
It works beautifully with my RetroTINK 5X (and I plan on doing a video of my own about these cool gadgets I acquired, as well).
Woah hey maybe I should ask a famoly memebr if his gamecube nintendo is the dol001 model and if he heard of the gamecube nintendo component video enhanced definition setup
My little brother lost my GameCube ab wire I’m so mad
My women found the 40inch wega sony trinitron with a remote for free so going down the money pit of getting childhood games.
Since you covered this on the GameCube, are you going to test this on the Wii since it does use the same output as the GameCube?
Sorry if I am confused, but what are you asking me to test? The GameCube digital port and the Wii video port are not interchangeable with cables.
@@Madlittlepixel yes they are
In fact most buy wii component cables and use them on gamecube for being far cheaper
@@smg4reblooperd182 huh? I have Wii Component Cables, they do not work with anything but the Wii. To use then on a GameCube you need the gchd mkii
@@smg4reblooperd182 You guys are confusing the digital port with the video port, they are different.
i have the retrotink 2x pro
and a hyperkin hdmi adapter (snes, n64, cube)
but honestly i prefer av into my small crt 🥺
these cables are a godsend for those dealing with ridic ebay prices on component cables
If I have Carby HDMI and Prism component, would you say I should use Carby HDMI for GameCube and Prism for Game Boy stuff?
Will it work for a N64?
No. S Video is the best it supports.
You got a link to that study? I wouldn’t mind reading it.
@@fossil-bit8439 it's all available on GC-Forever.
@@RideRedRacer 😆 "Inflation" is the lazy man's answer to everything. This is price gouging the gullible retro market, as it almost always is with aftermarket products.
