- Completely completing a game that doesn't have a criteria to 100%; it is a bold experiment. This is the best game every so I made my own 100% criteria and spent an in-game month trying to complete it. How far did I get? You'll have to watch the whole thing to find out!

Hey, I just wanna say, thanks for sticking out this challenge even on days when you didn't have folks in chat to keep you company. I know how discouraging it can be when you're still getting your stream viewership off the ground - but this was a great video with great commentary!

Honestly, after the Story of Season's announcement of A Wonderful Life, all of a sudden, a bunch of HM:A/nWL came out and I'm loving it! Playing this game back in elementary/middle school, I was the only one who really knew and played this game so I had no one to talk about it with. Now with this rerelease, I'm soaking it all up with this fandom! Thank you for this vid. This is the most detailed "walkthrough" of how to 100% complete the game and it's literally like a 9-5 job, and you didn't skip a beat with hybrids, flowers, and recipes! I was SO impressed you got the weird/strange tools so early! Growing up, I've never past chapter 3 and it took me until chapter 3 to get all the strange/weird tools too. The game is soo long. I'm excited for more vids from you're channel! You gained a subscriber! 🤗

My favorite song in Wonderful Life was "Quiet Winter." Even better than the main theme. i always kept it playing throughout the farm. so nostalgic.

As a child, I married Nami because she was mysterious to me, also she was really hard to accomplish with gifts (esp as a 6/7 year old lol). I would say for this playthru, to go with Celia since she's so down to earth.
I was also Nami gang when I was a kid for those exact same reasons! Unfortunately, democracy voted in Muffy as the wife so Celia may have to wait until the remake! Thanks for watching!

Bessy seems to be a pretty ubiquitous cow name lol. When I was a kid, I made a guide the just detailed villager likes and dislikes and played off that!

She definitely does come back, but you need to activate a cutscene in the Bar in chapter 2.
I hustled so hard to get her as a kid then she doesn’t even watch their child. she abandons them on the farm to look forlornly at the river contemplating her life choices. Some wild horses weren’t meant to be broken 🫡
tbh this game doesn't have that much content compared to some other farming sim games, but for some reason I keep coming back to Forget-Me-Not Valley. Just like you Jack, me and my brother would take turns playing this game, although we use different save files and kinda compete in finishing the game. Miss the good ol days lol also Nami best girl
Absolutely! If I wanted to play a farming game rich with content, I would play Stardew or a newer SoS game, but those games don't have the same charm for me. Maybe it's the art or the ambiance, but I feel like AWL was as close to a relaxing, rural lifestyle simulator I can find, and I keep coming back to it. Also, Nami Gang stand up lol
I glad you played this with your siblings. I have 4 older sisters and 1 younger brother. We would all take turns playing and growing our farm. It was fun. It was the only game they would play with us boys since they didn't want us to "mess" the farm up lol.

This game came out when I was 14 and living in an unhealthy atomic family situation, but I also used to ask different people in the house to name my animals.
My mom named the cow Milky and I loved the cow extra because of that.
My vote goes for you to marry Muffy although I al already getting the vibe you want to marry Nami.
I hope you were able to get out or remedy of your unhealthy situation, friend. I always name my cow Bessy because that's what me and my siblings would always name it, so that name is special to me. You're right, I'm 100% team Nami lol. Lucky enough for you, democracy prevailed and Muffy was the selected bachelorrete so you will be seeing her as the wife in the next video!

I got introduced to Harvest Moon back in 2009 when we got a copy of Another Wonderful Life. I'm not sure why, but we didn't own a memory card AT ALL so every time my older sister and I would play this game we would play it as long as we could before my mom would make us turn off our game. I've played through the intro of this game so many times (and named an equal amount of cows Bessie) and yet I could never get tired of it. I'm so excited for the remake coming this year but I will always remember Forget-me-not Valley and all its inhabitants!
Thats such a cute story. I love that everyone who has played AWL, AnWL, or the SE each have their own individual moment with this game. It makes it even more fun to play and stream knowing that a lot of people find it just as special of an experience as I do,

If you like good playthroughs you should watch Strayfae. She thoroughly researches the games and 100%'s them. She's great. I even learned something new about a game I put over 5,000 hours on watching her playthrough on it.
The thing about naming Bessy made me smile so hard. Ever since my very first time playing Harvest Moon as a child, the first cow is always Abigail. Usually, the second is Bessie, but I'm less stringent about that. 😅 I tend to name my animals in alphabetical order just for fun. From Abigail to Bessie to Cate, for example.
I can understand the need for order lol. I organize all of my items in this game and it stresses me out when things aren't in their correct spot lol
This was a DELIGHTFUL find! I don't know how on Earth you managed to make the daily routines of this game so engaging, but you're so entertaining to listen to. Believe it or not, I started Platinuming the PS3 version of this game for funsies in anticipation of the remake just a few weeks ago, so this was the perfect thing to watch while I do so! I've even learned a thing or two from seeing yours (and you're doing MUCH more in your run than I am - the trophies really aren't hard). I will wish you luck with Territory Capture, though. That thing is torture, I swear. I wish you luck with this entire endeavor, and I can't wait to keep tuning into this series! Hopefully I can catch you on Twitch soon.
P.S. While she's not my favorite, my vote's on Nami, since I never seem to see people marry her on here and it feels like you'd appreciate her immensely.

Hearing you talk about your childhood playing this game is exactly how mine went. I too had 2 siblings I played with, one older one younger, and we would also pass around the contoller every so often and consult eachother what we wanted to do with our farm. great video keep it up!

this bought back so many memories of when i was a kid spending hours on my gamecube playing this game, even continued to play it on my Wii once my gamecube stopped working really good video

I never beat it because I was too young, and I lost sight of what to do. But I am glad that I get to watch you finish a game I loved, but never finished.

That said it's tradition for me to name a cow in every farm game "Alison DiLaurentis", based on one of my most hated tv show characters of all time. Mostly because her stans love to call one of my favourite characters a pig/pigskin.

I loved this video. I played this game as a teen and never forgot the fun and memories I had with it. But there was also a part of me that would look back and remember parts of the game that I didn't understand or hadn't finished. With the remake around the corner, I'm really enjoying these playthroughs and refreshing my memory on it all!

Just found your channel today, and boy did you hit me in the nostalgia. AWL was the first Harvest Moon game I ever played, all the way back when I was a teenager. It was the start of my Harvest Moon obsession, I haven't missed a release since. I'm so excited for the remake, I've set aside funds on my switch for it already and plan to pre-order as soon as I can.
AWL was the start of my farming sim obsession as well! I'm going to be pre-ordering on steam since PC is my most used "console."

I’ve always been a big harvest moon fan. My sister bought me stardew valley for my switch last October and I didn’t play it until June cuz I wasn’t emotionally ready to fall in love with a different farming game. I now also love stardew valley and have been playing a ton. But this video brought me back to the good old days of watching my sisters take turns playing on the game cube and being irritated when i finally got to play but was only “allowed” to persue Nami. I would go on the get harvest moon DS and put maybe a thousand hours into it over a decade. This video really brought me back to why I loved this franchise and the music… I felt like I was a kid again. Great video. Sad I missed this on twitch. But Maybe I’m not too late for the very end
My goal was just to make a series of videos in anticipation of the new remake, but a lot of people have had similar comments that this video reminds them of a simpler time that we all seem to have experienced with HM: AWL. It's super cool and means a lot that I can make something that has that effect on a whole host of different people. We're only on Year 2, Fall 3 on twitch so there is plenty of time to watch! Within my first year I was able to fully plant all types of trees in both lower fields. total of 4 trees in each in the good field to S quality. unlock the fertilizer. Fertilize half of the field. unlock the seed maker. Bought one regular bull. Bought two star cows bought one brown cow and one sheep and my horse and also have about 20,000 gold that was my best first year ever. Along with almost everybody in town but Cody and Gustav and old lady that gives you water pill to Max friendship.
Wow! That's a lot of progress! I'm currently doing a playthrough off stream of AnWL and am nowhere near as far. Granted, I'm not even done with spring yet, but that sounds like quite the head start lol
@@JackDuckGoose well in all honesty I kind of cheated within the first 14 days after I could get the fishing pole if I didn't catch a 2000 goldfish I restarted the day. Did I mention I'm using the PlayStation special edition so it's horrible

I hope so too! I wanted to get this video out quick since it held up the streams, so it's a little devoid of color and is mostly information. The net video will include more audio clips and live reaction directly from the stream, whereas this video mostly used stream VODs for B-Roll. The twitch streams are much more colorful and I hope to see you in one sometime!

"Harvest Moon: a wonderful life is on mt Rushmore of games" instant subscribe. Such a sleeper hit, I remember playing it with friends so fondly. The farmer's market mechanic was incredible for it's time, and I remember linking it to my Gameboy advance to buy songs and recipes with my friend's tether. Definitely one of my favorite harvest moon games, I've made the most memories on it for sure.
We're in the same boat! This game really defined 3-6 years of my childhood. Even now, I still keep tabs on every farming sim game coming out and compare it to AWL lol
Before I found out there was a girl version (another wonderful life), I always chose Celia as my wife cuz I thought she looked like me. Meanwhile my sister would romance Muffy cuz they both looked alike too haha! Now as adults I think my bf ironically looks like Marlin and her bf looks like Rock 😂

Oh man, I remember playing the first Harvest Moon game on my dad's gameboy color ages ago (not understanding a thing because it was in Japanese lol) but STILL loved it because I guess as a kid I already loved the idea of a life and farm simulator LOL. I honestly was going nowhere in the game and was just walking around enjoying waking up to my character eating breakfast and looking at the pet dog. Needless to say, I never realized it was an actual Harvest Moon game until years later. I guess its time to bring out my Gamecube and play A Wonderful Life!
That's my experience in FOMT. After my brother was doing playing it, I would have my own save file where I just walked around. I didn't farm, fish, ranch, etc. just walked around and talked to people lol.

I played Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life and I was so pissed with the bachelor options as a kid. It was either ugly old man, ugly hippy man, or ugly twink man. I'm so glad you can marry either gender now, I've always had a crush on Muffy!
Lol I think that's why they're, for the lack of a better term, beautifying the bachelors for the remake. They definitely don't have as much quirky charm, but they fit the modern definition of attractive. Nami best girl btw

One thing that would be helpful, as someone who hasn't played the game in 20 years, could you go into the mechanics a bit more? LIke what is the strange sickle? How do you get better quality crops? What's the blue feather? and so on.

I got bored and overwhelmed after year 1 but yet I'm overflowing with nostalgia. I'll be glad to give this game another chance when I can get it on my switch. So much of the gameplay went over my head but the charm is just to die for. Never even knew it ended year 6. Thank you for making this wonderful challenge series! You're the only one I've ever hear mention this game.

I know Griffin is an eligible bachelor in Harvest Moon DS Cute, but I hope they make him a bachelor in Story of Seasons AWL. If not, then I hope someone is able to mod him in as a bachelor one day..
Edit: Random thought, but I wonder if we will ever see a “Story of Seasons: Save the Homeland”?
I'm really holding out hope for some decent mod support for the remake. Being able to change the names back to the original and a recolor mod would be first on my list! It seems that marvelous is on the remake train so I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a lot of remakes in the future.
There's the PSP version "Hero of Leaf Valley" but it's kind of annoying because you can only trigger ending events within a certain time window regardless of friendship levels.
I've never played HLF or the original. It's kinda disappointing that there are only a couple of cutscenes.
this game is so nostalgic as my older brother, my mother who has unfortunately passed recently, and I used to play together every morning and every night before bed. We would do every single task together and picked the bachelorette together. She passed a year ago and was just thinking about this game and how many memories me, her and my siblings had on it. Watching you play brings back so many memories, and will watch on Twitch and on here to continue reminiscing.

Clicked on this because I LOVE A Wonderful Life so much, and I'm so glad I did. Definitely will be checking out your streams as well!! I am very big on Optimizing my farming experiences (really enjoyed 100%ing Stardew) but have never been able to really do that with AWL. As far as Territory Capture, I spent a lot of time playing it for the platinum trophy earlier this year. The best tip I have is to try and capture as large a chunk of the center of the board as you can. This will make it harder for Patrick to get any large chunk of points, and building from the outside and taking as much of the center as you can nets you a big lead. It won't work every time, but it's how I got the trophy.
Nami was my vote too! We conducted the vote before the video hit recommended feeds and the chat and community, at that time, voted for Muffy. I'll try out that strategy next time I play the territory capture! Thanks so much!

This was so much fun to watch!! I've never been that good at farming sims but I played HM:AWL a bunch as a kid and absolutely loved it. Can't wait for the Switch version, maybe you'll do a 100% series of that too? :)

the key to territory capture is to make a trapazoid like you did in your screen shot, form it by making the three inherit triangle shapes in it, starting at the middle, the border of which should command the side of the board that your opponent did not begin on.
the entire premise at which you win, is based on kasey or patrick going first. cheers! hope this helps dont tell anyone my utlra secret tips.
My strategy was to take the outside line the entire time and that seemed to do the trick!

When I first played this game, I was a bit too young to understand many of the mechanics of the game and how to even play it, just that I liked watching my dad play it so I wanted to play it, too. Magical Melody is the one for GameCube that I played the most and hold the dearest to my heart, but I do hold AWL pretty close too! Mainly for my endless memories of trying to win over Ruby by giving her flowers and marry her to no avail because I also was too young to understand that she was already married with a child. But my fumbling childhood experiences with AWL was the start of my lifelong love for the Harvest Moon/Story of Season franchise!
Same here! I definitely was old enough to understand much about the game outside of give gifts, plants and water crops, and take care of animals, but I loved it anyways lol

It's a super unique scenario, I feel. Both companies still make similar games; one got the name and the other got the team

I remember finding out about this game in elementary school via a gameagazine. And obsessing over it, I read the same magazine for months and months, and when I finally got the game, I played it until I fell asleep. Nami still best girl all these years later.

Im learning so many new things! The furthest i got was marrying Nami and having a kid. Having accomplished my lifes work i promptly stopped playing. Never knew how in depth this game was! This is so neat.

AWL is super weird with how they never really teach you about any mechanics or that befriending the villagers can get you interesting stuff. They really just give you an introduction where Takakura tells you some stuff and let you figure it out lol
Celia has always been my go-to bachelorette when I played this on gamecube soooo many years ago... Muffy was nice, but I just didn't feel that I really connected with her. Nami was wayyy too hard-to-get and stand-offish for my liking. Celia just clicked since she was a farmer like MC and seemed so genuine and down-to-earth. It just made sense to have her on the farm with me where she'd be happy and we'd eventually raise an adorable son together.
I think Celia was probably the most "realistic" choice. Similar interests to the MC, closer in age range. I always went for Nami because she was stand offish and hard to get lol
same. she just seemed so sweet. plus if you don’t marry her she has to be with marlin 😬
That fact is almost enough to make me want to marry her; just to spite Marlin. I don't know why I dislike him so much, but I do lol
I love Celia she's the prettiest that's why I'm still going after her in the new remake!!

Thanks for watching! The PS2 version is the special edition and it is infamous in the community for being a very poor port. Glitches and poor optimization out the wazoo. I'm sure the remake will be a much better experience with a similar vibe.
I remember playing this game when I was like 6 and thinking it was basically real life, I was like “this game looks so realistic!!”
It's definitely on the realistic end of the spectrum, at least compared to HM64 or Friends of Mineral town lol
My all-time favorite game❤ I still listen to the music from it. I liked the slow, contemplative pace it had compared to most games. I also think it has the best artstyle of any of the harvest moon/story of season games, but that's probably the nostalgia talking, haha
My nostalgia goggles are always on when I talk about AWL, but I like to think it is an objectively S tier farming simulator lol

I'm so happy to see a playthrough of this game. I love watching perfection runs of Stardew and this game was my childhood. So much nostalgia. Just one small tip for the video, but maybe when you're going through, if you wouldn't mind explaining some of the things you're doing a bit more? For example, which fish you can catch, or how the seed maker works, how hybrids work, etc. I just think it might be interesting! But i loved the videos anyways :) and i think i'm alone but I'd have to vote for Celia! she has always been my favorite for some reason. looking forward to part 2!

@@JackDuckGoose It wasn't super complicated. The two trophies that stuck out were getting all the records from the villagers. Marlin's record was the hardest to get. On the special edition, there's a glitch where mukumuku will give you the same record every day in winter (once you befriend him) SELL them! It helps with the one trophy where you have to buy every upgrade on the farm. That took a lot of money and time. (and sharsharks) haha
Interesting. I've just started Summer of Chapter 2 and have gotten about half the achievements so far, so It's good to know that the difficult isn't too hard. It just seems to be hidden, for the lack of a better term. To make money, I'm taking all the fish that are cheap and turning them into sashimi. That along with the fruit seeds in the original edition will make money pretty moot soon enough.
You really made me start playing this game again and I'm addicted once again! But I'm playing Another Wonderful Life. So, a tip to win playing with Kassey: at the start just keep trying to ruin his game, while you make a form that does a lot of points, something like a triangle or a diamond shape! And when you get like 18, 19 points and kassey less, just start to ruin his game again so he doesn't score points anymore

I always went for Nami since she was the "hardest" to get to 4 hearts and see all the heart events. Everyone on stream banded together and voted for Muffy since her background of failed, past loves won them over. In future videos, you'll be seeing Muffy and her son!

Oh man, my heart hurts hearing that you also played this game taking turns with your siblings. My brother and I used to pass the controller back and forth every in-game day. I think it was the only time we weren't fighting over something.

My dude, how did u manage to get so much done during the first month?? Are you playing with a guide by chance (no judging, just curious). I swear to god, esp with Daryl I showed up at his lab every day, always giving him stuff he enjoys and regardless of that he never gave me the seed maker. Generally the frequency of ur cutscenes is a lot higher than in my playthrough-- even tho I feel like I try to make sure to visit everybody :(
On the other hand, it#s super interesting to see ur playthrough in contrast (as I'm curenntly somewhat occupied with the game lol).

It is wild I used to live in this game...and as an adult I have no idea how. It doesnt have THAT much going on .but i think part of it was reading about all of the cool things you could allegedly do. Kind of like there used to be rumors you could get out into the ocean in red/blue for pokemon and find a mew

@@JackDuckGoose that probably had a big part of it. I still get sucked into magical melody because there are so many people to see, things to do, and customization allowed. Even talking about it makes me wanna fire up my gamecube and burn through 30 hours of farm sim. I started messing with SoS for the 3DS but its not quite the same. So happy SoS AWL will be on every platform....options are awesome.
I am always a big fan of marrying Celia especially as if I remember correctly she gives you a better chance at your kid growing up to be a farmer (if I remember correctly I could be v wrong)
That's correct! Celia's child has strengths in farming and plants, where Nami's child has scholar and musician, and Muffy's has athletics. I always went with Nami cause she was a little more difficult to marry than the other two.
@@JackDuckGoose I played this game with my younger sibling growing up a lot how you said you did with your brothers in the video. We had two save files but it was the only time we ever got along. I would always marry Celia and they would always marry muffy (“cause she’s hot” was their reasoning at the age of like 7) some time later we bought Another wonderful life
lol I think it was the red heels and the not so modest attire, comparatively, that drew in the Muffy stans. It's uncanny how a lot of people had the same experiences with AWL that I did. I kinda want to do a save on the remake with my siblings now.

That's fair. Kinda like watching a really good musician who knows how to play a song. Whenever I tried to learn a new song on guitar, watching my instructor just being able to play it by ear was simultaneously super cool but super frustrating lol
