On the flip side, if the photo of a slabbed card is very poor and people are just ignoring it there may be a chance you could get a better deal on it due to the fact of less viewing traffic. But on the flip side of that, it may be that the slab could have slight damage. Also if a seller doesn't care about what they are selling or if they sell anything, their poor imaged card is probably not priced to sell. I like how people hold the card in their hand or the image is very dark after taking a picture. They don't have a flat surface or a lightbulb in their house?
Good tips - I use the app Office Lens as opposed to the regular camera app because it helps cut down on unwanted empty space around the cards. Also that Soto 🤑 very nice!
Awesome. Thanks for sharing, Scottie! I've been watching your videos for a few weeks and I am always learning something from you. I really like the hole in the black foam board. I will give it a try. Cheers, Julien (from Northern California)
Hey Julien, Thanks for watching and your feedback! I am glad that the channel is informative. Definitely give me your feedback on the black foam core when you give it a try!
Great job explaining...I was just doing photos last week and I was going crazy with the reflection of my phone...off to Walmart to buy the black foam boards
Thanks a lot I’ve had a really difficult time taking a picture of a 2000 bowman chrome Tom Brady card and also just a silver NFL debut Justin Herbert. I tried everything ,and your solution is great and would’ve saved me hours of trial and error. Thank you.
The dilemma: either take better pictures of raw cards without penny sleeves and top loaders (risking the perception that you don’t take care of your cards), or take worse pictures of raw cards inside penny sleeves and top loaders.
I used use both methods. I take a picture of the card in a penny sleeve and top loader, card saver, or mag case. Then I take more detailed photos of the card with nothing.
For chrome cards like prizm and select with the mirror background, ive found that white looks better than black. I use a white poster board or just a sheet of paper. It looks really good. Only on raw cards tho
Great video scotty. I have problems with lighting and pictures of raw cards. Alot of top loaders have little plastic dust in them and i dont have time to go over 1000s of top loaders and sort through to find a better top loader to switch it into.
Good information. How do you keep anything from reflecting from the card? For example, Panini Mosaic card surfaces on the front of the card reflect everything that is near it no matter what angle I try to take the picture from.
Hi Scottie - I finally purchased the Foam Boards from Walmart . I purchased a Black one and a White one to use for cards that may look better on a white background. Can you give me an idea on the dimension of the whole to cut on the Foam Board? Also, On the Black Foam Board , I''m not really seeing a difference on 1 side vs. the other one. Thanks again for doing this Video. I must have watched this Video about 10 times . Each time I watch it I pick up something else on how to take photo's of my cards. I just started selling on Ebay. Do you have any tips on doing Auctions or Buy it now sales? Thanks again and have a very special , Fourth of July. Barry
definitely a good option. Scanners don't always catch the refracting light you get with actual lighting and a lot of people don't have scanners. This is only 2.5 versus the price. Great point though!
@@scottiebcards2354 you can still add other light by leaving the scanner open and changing lighting conditions in the room. Or redirecting light from a dedicated source. I found that scanners are much faster than manually holding the camera. Also the scanner is better for raw cards since you can square them up. I can scan about 45 images per hour. All of my post production in accomplished on my phone and loaded to ebay from my phone. 95% of my ebay work is mobile. I don't have wifi but use a hotspot when at home to go online with my laptop. You can check out my ebay store backstop_cards or search ebay for the famous "razor blade card". An Upper Deck football card with an actual razor blade embedded in the card. Pulled from a pack in 1999.
@@alexchan6896 Alex you can leave the scanner open and throw a black cloth over the object you want to scan. I have experimented with different backgrounds with different colors and textures. You can view the different images at my ebay store backstop_cards. Or search on "razor blade card". I hope this helps.
@@jfreeman1689 thx for the suggestion. I used to have a box made from tape and foam board to do thicker cards instead of using my printer/scanner cover. But it never came out sharp if it was a slab or in a one touch. I am pretty sure the moving fluorescent light is the culprit. My conclusion is that scanners are for showing condition not for showing beauty.
Haha yes! My wife's favorite holiday to decorate for is Easter and we have way too many bunnies around the house! I'm glad my wife isn't the only one haha.
Probably in the arts and crafts selection. It’s just past the old man in the electric when chair yelling at everyone to move, to the right of the toothless 23 year old that looks more like 63. If you are close to the child sitting inside the grocery cart eating a bag of chips yet to be paid for, turn around you’ve gone too far.
Applying car wax to remove scratches from graded card cases might be a bad idea. Many retail car waxes are cleaner waxes, meaning that they contain detergents and abrasives.
I am constantly catching myself skipping over listings with poorly taken photos. This is gold.
Thanks Lance! Glad it was helpful!
