It's that 2nd corner of the card going into the penny sleeves that can hit the top edges of it. In the past with very expensive cards what I've done on a tip from a card shop is cut open the top sides of the penny sleeve about half an inch right on the seem. That can allow more space on top to get the 2nd corner in. 99% of the time I've seen people putting cards in penny sleeves they do just what he does in this video with the first corner and then the 2nd gets pushed though with the top of the sleeve basically all the way together. This often touches that 2nd corner.
Or try taking the sleeve and grab the sleeve like he shows but rub back and forth. It opens up that final side fir easy opening. But like your idea as well as long as you don't compromise the sleeve.
@@gicueN17R0 I do that but I still feel like that 2nd corner can touch the top of the plastic edge because the sleeve has to be pretty spread out to get the 2nd corner in.

For collectors residing in tropical areas and who are victims of graded card moist, you can use a dry cabinet for cameras as storage boxes for your valuable cards. Been using one for a year and had never encountered moist in my gra cards again. 👍
One more thing he did not mention (that is pretty critical) is, as a rule your hands are never clean and will transfer fingerprints, the average person touches their face and skin and so on many times during the day and getting those micro-layers of oil on the fingers will transfer to the cards (100% of the time). Don't ever handle cards in any seriousness without wearing gloves. Must be the certain type of glove that won't transfer fingerprints through the latex. Another thing when were on it, is humidity of the environment. Make sure that the surrounding environment is cool and dry; many cards I acquire have penny sleeves stuck to the cards so bad that they need to be cut out of them, and it's because of the relative humidity. Those cards usually need some heavy cleaning before they can have any attempt at being graded. I understand this vid is for the beginner, but moving from the beginner phase to the intermediate and expert phase happens very quickly, usually within a year or two, so you might as well have spoken about this issue. People might swear blind that they don't need gloves, but when you're grading all the time, the serious news is that you most definitely do.
When I mail out my eBay sales, I just put the stamp on the card. Y'all so extra. Seriously, though, I have to make a recommendation. I recently learned of magnetic one touches that are designed to be used with a card IN a penny sleeve. My thought is that the cards you choose to one touch are going to be the cards you admire the most often, show off, pass around the table, take to shows as trade bait, etc. Basically, the cards that get put in a one touch are likely going to be the cards that get handled the most. I've never had card get damaged in a one touch, screw downs included. I do, however, love the idea of having a soft sleeve between my cards and hard plastic. Love ya homie. I've put a few people on to you and we all respect your content.
If you slice the edge of the penny sleeve, it will be the best tip you can ever receive. You can seriously damage the corners from time to time if you don’t do this.
I’m starting to use the vintage card penny sleeve and that little bit of extra width is nice. It may move within the penny sleeve, but I’ll work with it as opposed to nicking the corner on a valuable card.
On top of these ways Geoff mentioned, when storing cards in a top loader I will cut one side of the Penny sleeve a few millimeters from the top, this helps slide the card in without damage to the corners. I also use post it flags or sticky flags to attach to the back of the sleeve, this helps when removing the card and sleeve from the toploader.
I bought an HandGun case at a pawn shop. It had foam were you could pull out foam to fit whatever. I've had for years way before you could buy one. It's waterproof, smell proof, and as damage proof as you can get. Has lock slots that double for slinge so can were over shoulder. Also Magnetic holders do scratch card especially chrome or prizm. #UltraPro should make a little bigger cases were penny sleeves fit. PSA can confirm. For those of us who have collected and graded for you years remember Topps Chrome Box Toppers. They would almost never get 10s because movement of card causes lil scratches. My 2002 TB12 Topps Pristine Refractor /99 uncirculated and Joe Thomas Red Refractor RC both came in uncirculated top loaders both got 9s because of surface scratches.
Good video! I gotta say though, I hate the semi-rigids. Its hard to get the card in there sometimes. Something else to consider, graded slabs are great EXCEPT for that they dont protect vs UV lights. One-Touches, if they have the golden magnet, do.
Newer psa and sgc slabs do protect from a certain amount of UV light depending on the type. However I dont know anyone that displays their slabs in full sunlight
I just took out my MJ Power In The Key and Living Legends card out of my folder. Both have been stored there with a Penny Sleeve for over 25yrs but are still in excellent condition. Thanks for the advice
Not sure if you're still reading these comments. One thing I didn't hear you talk about is temperature and humidity of the storage area you are storing cards in is huge for both the card itself, and the penny sleeve. Great video, thanks for making it!
For folks asking about one touch with penny sleeves, you want to get Pro Mold cases. The first or second gen will work, but they allow you to put the card in a penny sleeve first, then put it in the case. They, hands down, make the best cases. Pro Mold Gen 2 35 point will handle most regular sized-thickness cards (prizm, optic, etc) I’m in the process of moving all my big cards from top loaders to Pro Molds (if they’re not already graded). Was getting too many cards in top loaders with little indentations from specks of dust/debris getting into the top of the top loader

I only have raw cards at the moment. Penny sleeves, then top loading them. I store them in Pokémon tins. Loose cards are in penny sleeves in cardboard box/mail envelope packaging I saved. Works for me! I always push lightly down on the card when sleeving 😬 Got away with no damage to the card each time, but I’ll try tapping on a solid surface next time.
I used to put nicer cards in one touches but I've gone off that idea. Some cards are too snug in there and some have movement. Also, some cards have a small bow in them and that results in the case coming into contact with the surface. To counteract this I used to put a penny sleeve on the surface of the card. That was a pain in the.....neck. I now just do penny sleeve, toploader, and teambag. Temperature control is most important. Cards do not like heat and/or humidity - especially foil cards.
I agree with you. The one touch case makes the card look great, but a penny sleeve and either a top loader or a card saver is the best way to go with a team bag over them to keep dust out.
Depends what you’re doing with the card. If you’re displaying it best is to go for a UV one touch. There is some movement but not enough to damage the card in any way. I’ve tested this and the only damage you will get is if you violently shake the case back and forth. For protection only and not displaying. Penny sleeve, toploader, team bag.
I just had someone send me a high-end foil card in one of those, screwed down so tight their was spiderwebbing on the acrylic near the screws. Got to love eBay sellers.
Great video except for 2 very specific things. 1. Toploaders don't need a piece of tape to prevent the card coming out as long as you are not shipping it. If you do, it's better to use saran wrap around the toploader, so the buyer doesn't have to throw that toploader away. Card savers don't need tape at all. 2. You shouldn't put unsleeved cards in One Touch holders, there's perfect fit sleeves for most standard card sizes, and pretty much all of them fit on One Touch holders. For standard size cards, a good option is Dragonshield sealable sleeves, because they protect all 4 edges and both sides when the card is in the One Touch.
Surprised graded card sleeve weren't mentioned. Probably a function of video length more than anythung. Fun video overall Geoff. I have some of the stand up displays and I like them. Never heard of the last display product but it looked beautiful, especially if you have a themed collection to show off.
Turn your penny sleeves around...load the top of card into the bottom of sleeve...then slide the open end of sleeve into your top loader...then the card is sealed completely!
It is very important that the sleeves and loaders be brand-new upon use... If a foreign object such as dirt gets trapped inside the sleeve or loader while you insert the card, it could scratch the surface of the card... Thus decreasing it's value and appeal.
Nice video. I’m not really impressed by a lot of the grading companies’ slabs as display cases. PSA is all right, but not great. I like the multi card holder you showed. :) Csg is the worst looking slab I think. It’s like buying a Rembrandt and framing it with horse turds.
If you reuse an old top loader I found there can be little specks of stuff in there. So I open it up hole side down and blow in it to get those little specks out. Otherwise when you slide the card in it scratches the cards.
Any idea how one could protect an uncut sheet of 75' mini's team checklists. Basically, all the team cards uncut. This was a courtesy offer by Topps provided you collected the wax paper wrappers and mailed them in.
good vid by a good man, tku but your missing a couple issues. The 1st Q an A - is a safety deposit box safe for cards with regards to temperature? i have read that proper storage of cards is between 68 - 72 degrees (a fine line by the way), now i know banks have a.c. and rotate shifts quick enough so that the temp does not drop to much either way, but they do turn off the a.c. when closed and same with heat in the winter, and the temp does fluctuate - i was told some where between 4 - 8 degrees either direction, so something to think about! so far i have not seen a podcast that touches on this. Also humidity even a more important issue, i know some storage rooms have temp control, but the bank vaults do not, they are all about profit, and best believe they safe as much money as possible with con-ed, they do not care about what you store in their safe boxes, thats on us!! as for humility they absolutely do not use dehumidifier's. - 45% - 55% is the desired humidity % from what i read so far... thats another thing to think about. Also a good question is once a card is slabbed - PSA/BECK/SGC etc... does that protect the card better from these issues? and finally in regard to display, you have not addressed the issue of light affecting autographed cards, i read that not only does natural sunlight destroy and fade auto's so quick, most people would not believe it, but light from a simple light bulb is just as destructive, i have actually seen store owners throwing out faded autographs by the box load to my horror, kind of like jim belushi having a mental breakdown in the movie animal home, when campus security was clearing out their dorms bar, and the mover trips, dropping a box of scotch braking all the bottles! i held my hands to my head and let out a very similar sound of despair!! so from what iv'e seen on a vid, is they have either a special spray that blocks like 99% of any harmful rays, (of course sprayed after the card is suited up/protected- magnetic holder etc...) or they have special display cases where the glass has this protective quality. other wise you have to keep your auto's in the dark for most of the time or you will be sorry. Thats what i can share, hope it helps anyone out there..
As for displaying cards in the open, like in a glass cabinet, what's your opinion on autograph cards being displayed? I want to display a few of my upper deck wrestling cards that are autographed, but im worried that in time, the autograph might fade. Can that happen ?
@@GGonmyown a lot of one touch magnetic holders offer UV protection and yes you could increase that with UV blocking glass or plastic in a cabinet. I’ve also found there are cases that slip over graded slabs. Would he awesome to see a video dedicated to this as it’s really important.
I have a 1982 Topps Baseball set. Looks like thickness of 20pt. If I put in penny sleeves, should I go with 20pt toploaders or the next thickness up? Great video! Thanks!

GREAT channel Geoff, do you have any ideas or suggestions on protecting cards in tropical 🏝 or humid environments. I notice they can get bubbles or sticky in the humidity. Thanks
Penny Sleeve all decent cards, Cards you want to grade immediately put in Card Saver. Done. Grading companies cut the card savers to get the cards out easier.
i always thought you were supposed to put the card in the penny sleeve upside down so when you put it in a toploader the opening of the penny sleeve was actually at the bottom. this way dust or anything else that might get in through the top has no way to touch the card. maybe im the only weirdo who does this 😂
Great video! Do you know if there is anyone who makes pages for to loaded cards for binders? Reason is, my daughter, ho is autistic, wants her cards in a binder. I have some of her better cards in top loaders and I don’t want them in a 9 sleeve page only. I have to keep an eye on her hoping she doesn’t take them out of top loaders. Very sneaky. Thanks for sharing! God Bless!!
@@pepps0518 It was hard to read, but he’s asking if there’s binder sleeves for cards in top loaders. I don’t think there is, but I’d also love to know if they make them.
They don't make binder sleeves for top loaders. What I do is put the card inside a penny sleeve and then sleeve the card into the 9 pocket binder sleeve. It will add a bit more protection. For her valuable top loaded cards, you may need to get some high quality clear tape and tape the top loader shut completely across so it is less noticeable. Then get team bags and put them in those and tape the bag. Hopefully her picking away at the tape will give you enough time to catch her and stop her from taking out the card. Cheers and happy collecting.

I’ve tested this and the only damage you will get is if you violently shake the case back and forth. For protection only and not displaying. Penny sleeve, toploader, team bag.
What is ur opinion on One Screw vs Magnetic ? Should a sleeve be used with a One Screw
at what price point or a card do you recommend to get a card graded? thanks for the awesome info.
Best penny sleeve for 1952 & 1953 Topps baseball cards.
The best protection are the acrylic cases from the 90s. The tighter the screws, the safer the card.
I love using them for the thick cards!
That's bait
oh the 90s
I just had someone send me a high-end foil card in one of those, screwed down so tight their was spiderwebbing on the acrylic near the screws. Got to love eBay sellers.
Yer crazy lol. do NOT do that kids.
What is ur opinion on One Screw holder vs Magnetic? Should a sleeve be used for One Screw also ?

I do the penny’s in the semi rigid top loaders for most, but the higher mil top loaders for my most valuable cards.
What kind of UV protection do the slabs have? I definitely don’t want to be displaying slabs on my wall if they’re at risk of fading over time
Great vid thanks
Csg is the worst looking slab I think. It’s like buying a Rembrandt and framing it with horse turds.
HGA has the best lables but some very sketchy grading.
Hi, what backpack are you using in the video to store cards? Thanks.
Those that are here to protect one piece cards 👇
Buyer beware with toploaders as they are difficult to detect the corner wear at the bottom of the card.
good vid by a good man, tku but your missing a couple issues.
Put a UV coating film or case on the cards. Showyourslabs.com sells UV film for cards.
@@SportsCardInvestor awesome thanks
For auto card after use one touch is need to penny sleeve ?
For personal collection
I use a Ruggard Dry Cabinet. It's not the ultimate solution but it ticks the most boxes for me.
Surprised there’s no mention of UV protection when displaying cards.
What options are there for this?
Maybe a cabinet with uv glass panels? I thought of displaying in a china cabinet with jewelry type lights in it.
@@GGonmyown a lot of one touch magnetic holders offer UV protection and yes you could increase that with UV blocking glass or plastic in a cabinet. I’ve also found there are cases that slip over graded slabs.
Would he awesome to see a video dedicated to this as it’s really important.
I got a major league material card 1 of 10 Mike Trout auto series 2 topps card awesome best card yet 2022 booyah
Much needed
I always was told to put the penny sleeve with the opening down in the top loader, is that ok?
What about storing them in binders?
What about UV protection for display?
Someone on utube cuts down the side on the corner of a penny sleeve, b4 inserting card. Work fantastic for difficult cards
I have a 1982 Topps Baseball set. Looks like thickness of 20pt. If I put in penny sleeves, should I go with 20pt toploaders or the next thickness up? Great video! Thanks!
Best small carry case….black casematix graded card case with 2 slots using pre cut foam/ rubber) for $50.
You mentioned that you had spoke with the one touch company, After speaking with them do you feel or did they say if it’s bad to leave the card in a penny sleeve then put it in the one touch? Thanks as always great video.
I’ve left a few in the Penny sleeve and had no issues. You just have to be more careful and line it up correctly.
Exactly how I go about it.
The guy loves his sponsors.
Are one touches supposed to be loose at the bottom? All mine are open some at the bottom
GREAT channel Geoff, do you have any ideas or suggestions on protecting cards in tropical 🏝 or humid environments. I notice they can get bubbles or sticky in the humidity. Thanks
just a fast question, i have a Fleer Mike piazza card with a piece of game worn jersey. about how much do u think it could sell for?
Best video ever.
do u know how to remove cards that are stuck in penny sleeves?
Could you make a video about how to protect and how to clean cards and toploaders from dust?
Penny Sleeve all decent cards, Cards you want to grade immediately put in Card Saver. Done. Grading companies cut the card savers to get the cards out easier.
This maybe a stupid question but can you put a card in a penny sleeve then a one touch?
great video
good day there is also a traditional 4 or 9 pocket collectors album made by ultra pro… it is wildy used during the 90’s
Gotta love all these smaller sports card channels hating on sports card investor channel. They hating because your at the top with 130k followers
He maybe the top but he is not be all end all. He had his opinion and everyone else had theirs he is not the bible of sports card collecting
That is not the reason at all
Who said end all be all.
Do they make one-touch magnetics for larger cards, like the Topps 1955 baseball set?
I'm going to create a company to protect your slab strong protector. Slab Even Stronger is what I'm going to call it.
Use a bit of cement mix around the edges before penny sleeving. Will protect those edges
He making all kinds of contact with that card with his thumb lol
More tips about humidity/ heat/ safe etc like content please
i always thought you were supposed to put the card in the penny sleeve upside down so when you put it in a toploader the opening of the penny sleeve was actually at the bottom. this way dust or anything else that might get in through the top has no way to touch the card. maybe im the only weirdo who does this 😂
i always cut a slit on one side of the penny sleeve at the very top. Slides right in like that
Does slab Strong fit bgs also?
Great video! Do you know if there is anyone who makes pages for to loaded cards for binders? Reason is, my daughter, ho is autistic, wants her cards in a binder. I have some of her better cards in top loaders and I don’t want them in a 9 sleeve page only. I have to keep an eye on her hoping she doesn’t take them out of top loaders. Very sneaky.
Thanks for sharing! God Bless!!
UltraPro makes 4 pocket pages. They’re ok, but a bit big
You should do a video of the top 5 cards to invest in now
Lmfao no Geoff? That's not what this channel is about bucko
A good way to protect your cards and their value is to get them graded accurately, which is why I prefer using AGS over other companies
just how accurately could they even grade cards?
@@nick5663 AGS uses ai, which is much more reliable and accurate than human grading
@@henryzheng2388 I see but with ai this must cost a lot of money right?
@@nick5663 Not at all, the prices are a lot lower than big companies like PSA. Ai actually makes it cheaper
