    Dan, you put the Teflon on backwards on the threads. Next time, try blue threadlock in the stick format, you will like, trust me. It seals threads real well and it is easy to remove.

    Gabe didn’t protect the 458 door when he opened the Testarossa door. It swung and I winced waiting for the T door to smack the other. I always put my hand on the edge of the door as I open it toward another.

      Don't worry, I definitely looked to make sure it wouldn't hit. The shot just didn't show that. I also use the hand technique when it's a super tight squeeze.

    The first plug is for the sump, the second is for the oil tank? Odd that for such a low-mileage car someone has bodged the oil tank drain plug??

      It is a 1987 car, assuming all of its owner had been following proper maintenance schedule of one oil change a year, that means at least 33 oil changes were done. And just like Fred said, all it take is 1 out of that 33 to destroy the thread. The OEM plug size for the reservoir is 22mm M16 x 1.5 and the one that came off is obviously not OEM.

    • @timgosling6189
      @timgosling6189 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anthonyc.6170 Agreed, although I suspect for a fair bit of its life it's been 'stored'. Let's hope it was at the last oil change that was done. Does make you wonder what else might be waiting unseen. Anyway, I'm sure it will get a good look over before it goes to its new owner.

      @@timgosling6189 it's a bad design - the tank itself only has about 3 or 4 threads. When he torqued it to 30 ft lbs I winced - that's a lot for those threads to handle!

    The correct oil viscosity for a Testarossa is either a 5W-40 or 10W40. Why are you using a 20W50? Did you consult the owners manual?

  • @kingcory21

    • @jasonb9629
      @jasonb9629 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah that is not something I would even consider doing. (Plus on top of that he put the tape on backwards so when you screw the plug in the tape comes off the plug). Get the next size up drain plug, drill and tap the hole and its like new!

    • @LSmiata
      @LSmiata 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jasonb9629 I thought he applied Teflon tape correct, until he pulled to cut/stop. Re watched and you are correct. Also NEVER need tape on threads for drain plug. Sealing" is the job of the crush washer, threads only hold tension.

    The Testarossa has been my dream car since I first saw one in the 80’s and then came along the refined 512 TR which I liked even more. I have the road and track magazine review of the 512 from 1992👍 I saw one recently here for $300 K Canadian😲 I think there were only 34 examples shipped to North America. $115,000 is reasonable for the one you have there and it looks like it’s been taken care of nicely. Wish I had the dough for it. I would crash through the border with that bad boy😆

    I see that you are not using very good oil for one, and two, did you look up what specs Ferrari call for in that era of engine? And the one year oil timeline is so out of date....to a degree. Did you do an oil analysis to see if the oil was no good anymore?

  • @ericcindycrowder7482
    @ericcindycrowder7482 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should only put about half of the oil in the tank, then run the engine for a while. This will move the oil from the TANK to inside the engine crankcase. Then check the oil and add the right amount.

      Depends what you doing during that time. For example: if you in a great party with nice girls and etc one hour goes by flying, but if you watching paint dry, one hour feelsl like one day.

    Been there myself, my threads were stripped too on my '87 so I had to drill and retap to 18x1.5. Pretty hair raising to be under the car on jack stands, trying to keep the drill and tap perpendicular to the car! Luckily it worked out. I only torqued to 20 ft lbs - I was expecting the worst when you torqued yours to 30!
