Very cool car, the showcase of the Testarossa in “Miami Vice” really brought to the mainstream, watching Don Johnson rip through the gears driving it fairly aggressive in some episodes really showed what blast it was to drive! Thanks for the insight in what to look for, and btw I had the Testarossa and Contach posters when I was younger still iconic all these years later!
Miami Vice used a two real Ferrari Testarossas for the cruising scenes and a fiberglass replicar for the action scenes. The replicar had rear rims with the face of the wheel closer to the centerline of the rim and was mounted on a de Tomasso frame while the real Ferraris had the center lug rims and the rims were from Ferrari. Here’s the VIN of one of the authentic Ferraris: ZFFSA17AXG0063631
As a former 1990 Testarossa owner I concur with everything you've said, well done! One of the most satisfying Ferraris you could possibly want to own and then some. As one person famously once said ' I highly recommend it' if you can afford it!
I always thought I was cool that I could’ve bought a Testarossa over my 928. It had no records, and the fact it was a lower than average price in 1998, probably meant lots of trouble. Seeing Michael Jordan’s & watching Miami Vice made me fall in love with these cars. They’ll forever be my favorite Ferrari. Wonderful video!!
The standard engine service on a TR is $8,000-$10,000 every 30k miles. This assumes that no other unscheduled work needs to be done. That is wicked expensive and no doubt the thing that held the resale prices down for so long.
Awesome video Colleen, one big difference I like between the Boxers and Testarossa is the front mounted radiator was ditched after the boxer and moved to the rear, one each side....like a F1 car. Great excuse to develop the iconic side strakes!! Having said that, I love Boxers and this is the Ferrari I really desire over everything...
My favorite Ferrari model , this black testarossa looks beautiful , even with this aftermarket wheels , love your reviews , Colleen , greetings from Brazil!
Hi there Colleen, first I would like to point out that you do an absolutely fantastic job with presenting and reviewing the awesome model Ferrari’s in your video clips - your truly an entertaining professional enthusiast and that I love and enjoy and learn allot from your clips very much!!!! Thank you very much for posting them!!... And besides for all of that, I a specially love the Ferrari Testarossa very much ( I adore everything about it between the exterior and interior designs and the flat v12 engine ) also beyond that it just so happens that back when was a 17 year old teenager I was at this amazing car museum in San Diego California where the had on display a very beautiful and cool as hell red colored 1989 Testarossa which I even got my picture taken of in front of it as well- I remember looking at that car for over an hour saying to myself that this is the most sleek and cool and incredible looking car that I’ve ever seen!!!!! Oh and I’m 33 yaers old and Was born in 1989, I love all the Ferrari’s but my absolute favorite models are all from the 80s and 90s until the early 2000s!!!! I also have a cool model in red of the 512TR that I look at every day for it reminds me of the Testarossa that I saw at that car museum and I also have a very beautiful metal model of the Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalve in black a very cool and special collectors item, both of these cars between my models and the real cars I adore and connect with very much....
The bad things about cars or trucks when they start to get over 10 years old is rubber deterioration. The rear and front mail seal will begin to leak and all the other rubber parts will start cracking up on you. Just get a case or two of AT 205 Re-seal and put it in the crankcase and transmission. Also saturate the motor mounts, the CV joint boot and everything else with it and it can really prolong the life of the rubber parts.
How about a market overview and buyers guide to the Pininfarina built and Lampredi designed 4-cylinders DOHC/Twin-Cam engined FIAT 124 Sport Spider classic model ???, it's a medium sized gem of a car, with a good investments potential to gain, for the best kept examples.❤❤❤
None of the car manufacturers today make rear mid-engine manual transmission vehicles, except Porsche (Cayman) and Lotus (Emira). Rear-mid-engine manual, will be desirable for some automotive connoisseurs.
Colleen could you kindky do a buyer's guide for the 250 Testa Rosa ;) :) But seriously I'd love for you to delve into the Colombo engines sometime (the Lampredis also would be great). I know it's not the kind of thing you do since you and your father are not in the engine business but I just think you too would do it justice and there really isn't anything like that here.
IF i could afford a Ferrari, it would be the Testarossa (with good mileage), then the F40 (as if) and then I do like the 348 (a mini Testarossa), but thats dreaming!
Looks great in black. Not sure about the black wheels though. In general I think black wheels on Ferrari's and supercars has been done to death over the last decade and had it's time now. I'd gladly take the stock silver wheels myself but each to their own. I believe the 512TR is the ultimate model of the Testarossa too. Lovely updated design tweaks without ruining the essence of the original design along with improved performance. Ferrari definitely went too far with the 512M styling thoug, yikes
