I think because it's like you are rolling around in the dirt when you do it!
XXtheJUMPoffXX they actually call it that because during their 2015 show, they did that toss when the audio said but you treat me like dirt

Yes in our show Nature Speaks all of the flags that wore the "dirt" costumes tossed on the "you treat me like dirt" words.

The problem with all these weird tosses these days is you watch any colorguard and the catches are just so sloppy. Catches are one thing judges no longer account for that need perfection
As a judge, I can both agree and disagree here. It depends on what judge you are referring to because an equipment judge - who is usually on the floor level - will DEFINITELY be looking for the cleanliness of the catches, along with consistency of technique, hand placement, etc. However, the effect judges - who are usually as high as possible and of which there are two - are looking at the overall effect that the contents on the show have to bring about a cohesive concept. Therefore, if a toss is SUPER visually effective and slop on the catch DOESN'T detract too much from the overall effect, the instructor is actually better off to include it because they will earn more points for having the cool effect than they will lose from the lack of technique. However, if the lack of technique is bad enough that it actually ruins the effect, then yes it should be removed until the technique is up to par - the real problem here is that not a lot of instructors understand the trade off or risk involved. I like to call it "color guard economics." 😂
What does she mean by “pitching it forward”. Should it stay in my toaster? Like straight up and down?
Yes! Keep it in the toaster as much as possible. If you watch when she says "don't pitch it forward" she tilts the flag forward to demonstrate where you DON'T want it to go.
About how much money was your total cost for the Macy’s parade not including the plane ticket?
+Alexis Scott it changes from year to year depending on what events are included in the package. I was told they will be updating the MGAMB website by Monday with accurate information for next year's band events and pricing.
I was in the parade as well with davis high school!! Only if i had the chance to meet you!
