Says a lot about a man willing to show the people how to make a jig, and string for that matter, while he sells strings himself. Kudos to you Sir and thank you for the information and all the great videos. God bless you.

If you ever make another one, when sanding the curve into the dowel so the string doesn't slip, instead of sanding it by hand, put the dowel into your drill and spin it as you sand, that will make it more uniform.

I made the jig , but I used golf tees and they worked great.

Finished my first Stringamajig® today - Thank you for the dimensions. I used a 'leaf' from an antique table (we had sitting around) for the board. I love linseed oil for the finish. Someday I will try the gun oil, perhaps.

You could put the dowels into a handheld drill and present the now spinning dowels to the also spinning sanding head for a nice uniform finish...just a thought

I like to use hardened trim nails for the stationary pegs. They look like blued finish nails, but since they are hardened they don't bend easily. For the movable peg, I prefer a joist hanger nail. They are galvanized like a roofing nail, but the head is much smaller so I don't catch the string on it. They are also fatter than the trim nails, so they are harder to fumble around with.

I wonder if golf tees would work for the pegs?

I made this over the weekend... I'm not sure what I missed, but none of the math works out. I think I missed something in the vague instruction "Up to 22"".
If you would put out an accompanying diagram it would help. I now have to make a new one.

Kramer I followed your directions here and made a jig like this one. Mine is a little fancier though as I have a CNC router and made mine with that. What I'm confused about is how do you determine the string length? There is no mention of how long a string you will get when adjusting that peg in the center. I know that for every hole you move the peg you are getting a string one inch longer or shorter, but how long of a string would I get if I used the peg hole closest to the two roles of nails? Thanks for the video and the jig. I can't wait to try it out, but have no idea right now where to put that center peg on the jig.

Have you ever considered using 3d printing to make a jig or dowel or would it not be strong enough?

Hello do you have a tamplet on the Bowstringjig

  • @Caram0n

distance from 1 of the top 2 pins to the top central pin is not 5". It's the hypotenuse of a right triangle with the other 2 sides 5" & (1 7/8" / 2 = 0.9375"). So it's 5.09" (I think). So if you want 'nice' (2x24) + (2x5) 6, 7 8 etc. you need to work out the exact hole centers.

I'm just glueing in my pegs following this guide and I've run into a minor snag of my board not staying strong at the 8 close together pegs but I did get a 1'x3' hobby board of red oak so I have another section if the pegs don't hold. I guess my bit was dull or the wood was weak, idk but if it works it works

Had the same prob. I filled with glue and let it set a little. Then lined up the pegs and genly sattle taped them down . Worked great for me .

Why does one video say this jig makes a 66" string then in another a 70 at the same peg. Unless it was altered and not explained?

What is really cool is that you can use that jig to play Cribbage with when you are not making strings.

Anyways, thanks for the really useful info.... with the jig, not so much shop 101😂😂😂😂 have a good one!

Found your Amazon store and picked up the cabinete scrapers. Needed 'em.
I dont see raw materials to use for making my own bow strings. I know you make them, but I really want to make my own. At least once. Your generous with your timee and knowledge, I just want to support the channel.

Hey Kramer, did you use 1/4” dowels for all your pegs? Thanks!

    • @imperfect-creations.

Looked like 3/8 to me . Its what i used and it worked out perfectly.

    • @rdh2059
      @rdh2059 3 ปีที่แล้ว

1/4" works nicely. To me, 3/8" dowel was too large diameter. 5/16" would work well too. It's up to you, I think.

Am I missing something. I thought that on a long bow it is tip to tip minus 3”, and 4” for a Recurve. Are the measurements on the jig actual string lengths or bow lengths. Are they for Recurve or long bow.
