    In the late 1970s, I was married, for a couple years, to a German girl who played this. She was a multi-instrument virtuoso who trained at The Regensburg Conservatory under Herbert Von Karajan. She would play the organ at a small Catholic church in Tempe, Arizona, just playing all the music for a typical Sunday Mass. At the end of the Mass, the Priest would say, "The Mass is over; go in peace." And when he said "peace", she would play this prelude and fugue. The Priest and altar boys would proceed down the aisle of the church to exit via the front doors, but not a parishioner would leave until the song was finished. Each week she would end the Mass with a different prelude and fugue, but this one was everyone's favorite. Her name was Rita Kretzer Perin. Nowdays, she teaches music in München.

    I love the the majestic voice of this organ and the sound is just sublime and takes you into GODS ALMIGHTY awesome and majestic presence. The interpretive playing by this organist is as beautifull as it is amazing.

    Fantastic! ! That little trill on the pedal at 0.48 blows me away, never seen that before.

      No hay ningún adorno, me parece. Un par de fusas lucen casi como un adorno debido a la velocidad de interpretación del solo de pedal, algo más rápido que el resto del discurso, me parece.

      It's surprisingly difficult to play well. I agree that this is one of the best performances I've heard, if not the best.

      Interesting....I find it one of the ugliest performances of the piece I have ever heard. The registration (especially pedal) is WAY to big and everything is just staccato. Maybe it is the recording in the live acoustic.

      @@ojotutBecause the greedy publishers keep lying that these pieces are by Bach, organists keep trying to force them to sound like Bach, using much too heavy stops and trying to frame them as classic High Baroque. These are pieces of the Galant era, and should be played with light stops and emphasizing fun and wit above all.

      The adjective "powerful" should never be connected with any of these eight pieces. They are light, witty pieces of the Galant era. Trying to force them to sound like Bach betrays their fundamental nature.

    For a long time attributed to Bach. But musicologists now attribute the piece to one of Bach's students, likely Johann Tobias Krebs. A fine piece all the same!

    • @GeraldM_inNC
      @GeraldM_inNC 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, Krebs is merely one candidate, it isn't true that a consensus of Bach scholars have settled up on him. Indeed, it's not universally conceded that they are all by one composer, or even that they were all composed in the same region. Some evidence even points to Paris or Bologna. Scholarship is a long way from a consensus. Andrew Pink's essay on his website makes some brilliant observations, including that the G Minor prelude has a section that corresponds closely to a phrase in a textbook.

      Tobias? Wasn't it Johann Ludwig Krebs who was his pupil in Leipzig?

    J.S.Bach or J.L. Krebs ?

  • @johnwidmann1674

    Great piece, very unlikely Bach's. Probably Johann Tobias Krebs. Still, nice, and fun.

    • @GeraldM_inNC
      @GeraldM_inNC 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Downgrade "probably" to "possibly". Nobody has advanced anything more than a guess that it could be Krebs. It's far from clear that anyone in the Bach circle had anything to do with these pieces.
