Thanks for coming to the premiere. I hope this video is helpful to you. I included the time stamps and our stats in the description as well as any links mentioned. Comment below if you’d like a part II.
This was such a great discussion. An interesting point you make is about the prejudices against locs. I always call microlocs/sisterlocks “corporate locs” because they don’t stand out in a corporate setting. Whenever someone says they want to return to relaxers I always suggest microlocs because they give you styling versatility of a relaxer and very low maintenance. I was going to get sisterlocks but 7 years ago it was going to be 1k and there was only like one loctician in my area. If not I would have had to travel. My other issue was I read /watched a lot of sisterlock horror stories. Sisterlocks is very very secretive with their techniques so you don’t know if they are making mistakes, which would mean you don’t have the branded sisterlocks you paid for. So I did it myself. It took me three weeks. It takes five days to retighten because my arms hurt and my scalp gets sore, but free 99 sure feels fine.
If your scalp is sore they are too tight, which can lead to thinning. Be careful how tight you're pulling them, because unlike braids, you cannot take them out if it's too tight.
So sister locks is a branded locking technique that is uses the interlock method and a particular parting grid ? & Microlocs can be parted in any pattern and started in a multiply of ways.
I'm not into sister or micro-locs.. I will say Lena's are the best I have ever seen. I recently started traditional locks but I will say your channel needs more viewers. Watched a couple and they are way better than any others that have popped up in my feed! Learned the most. Good stuff!
God bless you ladies. I've been Loc'd for 28 years. I'm just learning how much of a big deal this has become. In 28 years I don't believe that I have yet paid 1000 dollars. I have my third set of "regular" Locs. Best wishes on your journey 😊
My consultant charges $150 more for Sisterlocks than micro locks. It doesn’t make sense to me to pay for the brand name or grid because neither holds any value to me. My consultant was upfront that there’s no appreciable difference. My install is 020122. Part of my hesitation in getting locs was the permanence but really permanent is only as long as I want it to be. I don’t let price dictate how often I do or don’t change my hairstyle. And I’ll still have flexibility of styling like with loose hair. When I get bored, or get tired of the maintenance, I’ll cut them off and start over with something else. It’s only hair to me.
You can comb them out sis! I've had 2 sets of locs. 1st was 3 yrs...2nd was 7 yrs old. I took them out..took about a week! I also was able to do crochet styles and wigs and mine were combined! You can still style your hair anyway with locs depending on style and length of locs. Im about to do my 3rd and last set soon! New set of Micros.
My new client is a Loctician and before we started running her marketing campaign for her course, I wanted to learn more about the difference between microlocs and sisterlocks. This video by far is the best video I found and I watched til the end! Great job and thank you!
Great conversation/share ladies! Both of your locs are Beautiful & Flourishing!🥰 Never thought about how sisterlocs/microlocs may not be viewed/criticized by others like traditional/freeform locs... wow! I'm 14mths into my microlocs journey and started with two-strand twists (393). The deciding factors for me choosing microlocs was (1) price- b/c of my hair length and density I was quoted $1400 for sisterlocs & (2) flexibility- microlocs in my opinion is less structured. It's definitely Beautiful to see such vast options in the loc community 💜
This session was so helpful, I have just installed sister locs (10.7.2022) but this has provided much need education in how I can maintain my locs. I feel so happy to be part of a community. I got mine done in Ghana, Africa so it is much cheaper but I'm moving back to the UK so will have to search for a trustworthy locticiana for re twisting. I've heard horror stories so doing my research but my first re teist will be done by my installer
I loved this. I've watched you both and was excited to see the collab. I am newly sisterlocked as of 12/03/21 and my locs look more like Loc'd Mama because of my fine texture. Keep the videos coming Ladies.
I was ignorant as well to locks as well. Only because of what I saw.. the big ones, the lint and dirt as well. Well I will say that I'm biased with small locks though. That is just what I prefer. I follow both of you, love the conversation.
Hey ladies I recently started my journey and I really enjoyed this video. It was very informative and funny. very real. I appreciate you ladies. Keep doing what you’re doing.
This was amazing. I had dreadlocks and combed them out before they got too long because they were all different sizes, and I am really struggling with what I want to do. I will never be a loose natural again after I lock up again.
Great discussion Ladies...even a year later still hits all major points. I have grey hair that does not like getting styled. My SL have been a game changer.❤️
This was such a good video ladies. I truly appreciate the thoughtfulness and honesty as your shared your journeys. I can't wait to have a consultation.
I combed out thicker interlocked locs. I ended up with a broken thin mess. Chopped it all of after 1 month. No use wasting time and energy combing them out. Just cut and regrow healthy hair.
I’m 2 months into my sisterlocs journey (3 months if you include my consultation). I have sisterlocks but my professional adopted a grid that best met the natural pattern of my hair at the time. I was experiencing alopecia due to medical reasons but I had lost here and it’s been over two years so we thought it was permanent. But since I’ve had my luxe, we realize that my hair is growing back. So I really think it comes down to your Loctician and in their experience. My lactation has been doing Locs since the 90s and she is certified in sisterlocks but she is not limited by their technique.
New subbie here. Darn, I never knew that there was a difference between sister locs and micro locs. I love both hair styles on these two ladies. Lots of gems through out this video. Great video too. 😍😍
I absolutely loved this! This was the most informative video that I have seen in a long time. And this is a very small world because I have been waiting on your loctician to start my microlocs for the last couple of years but she is booked every time i have the funds to pay for my first install. Both of your ladies’ hair are beautiful and I can’t wait for the next collaboration!
Great discussion. I'm guilty not wanting traditional Locs bc I like versatility and the look of a wash and go. My Bestfriend's both had traditional Locs and loved there styles but they weren't for me. I coil my hair now and its grown so much and I'm leaning towards Micro Locs to make hair styling and maintenance less. Weekly washing, coiling is just getting to be too much for me. Weighing the price is a big factor. I'm in Philadelphia and the price is $800 and up, length of hair is a different price as well, consultation is separate. I'll make my decision soon bc the price is hefty and I'm the type of person who has done my own hair for decades.
Love this video! I follow you both. Also, I didn't think Hand in Hair Syndrome would be a thing for me. But once I got sisterlocked I learned that it is, in fact, a thing. So now, I typically keep my hair wrapped up or braided to keep from being in it so much. Anyway, I can't wait for the next collab. Happy Holidays!
Hi beautiful I have 420 locs I started with 2 strand twist going on 1 yr all I use is water with rosemary oil on my hair yes I do 2 point rotation only And yes I did my own hair I have no regrets I wish I started sooner I love the process every phase was joyful😂❤
Thank you both; I've had my consultation and install date is end of April. All I'm doing is research and research can't wait ... thanks again.. great conversation
A lot of people, unfortunately, don’t want to do research. They see someone else’s hair and immediately want the same results without realizing that it takes time to achieve a certain look. Trust the process people!
There are tons of Sisterlock ladies that have had their locs for more than 10 years on TH-cam and tons of ladies who have Microlocs that are 3 to 5 years into the game. Some started with interlocking, braids and two strand twist.
I have been dragging my feet in deciding to get microlocs or sisterlocs. I have low density fine 4c hair. There seems to be no stylists near me taking new clients
Thank you ladies for this video. I really enjoyed this conversation. i am subscribed to both channels and love watching your progress! I would love to hear and watch the conversation about biases and whatever you ladies want to discuss. Again, thank you!!
I recently got micro locks. I was initially interested in sister locks. The loctictian advised against it due to the fine soft texture of my hair. I only have a little over 200 strands which is frustrating to me. I like them but do not like the look on me. Its been exactly a month today. I still do not feel confident enough to wear them out. I have been wearing a wig. I now feel like I made an ill-advised decision. I did do my research. However, there was not enough information out for fine hair. Everyone tells me to trust the process, and it will get better. But I have yet to see anyone with the scarce look that I have. So im not sure how my hair is going to achieve the look that everyone else has. Can someone reassure me that I have made a wise decision. I really like my loctician she did a great job, but im wondering if I should have decided against getting them. Should a loctician advise people not to get them if you dont have the right texture for them?
Hey there! How’s your loc journey going? I have fine hair also. I decided on Sisterlocs. Happy with my decision. They will plump up and fill out. It gets better. Embrace your journey.
I got my sister Locs 2 years ago and paid $800 which was a huge discount. It took 22 hours on 10 inches of hair and I have 377 Locs. Best hair decision ever
Mini braids aren't how sisterlocs are started right? I find people getting offended when you question how is theirs sisterlocs when they were started as braids
Beautiful commentary on SL and Microlocs 😊 But please be careful out here when it comes to your SL , everyone is not out here for your good on your hair periodT. Exactly.
Thanks
Sisterlocks have 8 different locking patterns. Interlocking has 2 locking patterns: 4 point (north-east-south-west) 3 point (north-east-south-east).
Exactly...only difference is time and technique. The right to say sistaloc and the "right" to claim sista loc

I honestly would've thought that the actual sister locs are micro locs and the micro locs are Sister locs. Both beautiful ❤

Who did her sisterlocs? I'm trying to dicide sisterlocs versus Microlocs?
Great discussion. One tiny note: allow your guest to finish their introduction and maybe interject a little less. Otherwise it was great!

Agreed!
So locs are not permanent? Can you give me more information about this ?
Hi 👋🏾 Thanks for the info 🙂
You are so welcome
SisterLocks it is!!!
I am newly mirco loc'd July 2022!
How to start microlock
Mini braids aren't how sisterlocs are started right? I find people getting offended when you question how is theirs sisterlocs when they were started as braids
Correct. Sister locs are started off by interlocking. It’s not sister locs if it’s not interlocked.
Anyone experiencing thinning bc I’m scared 😱 I’m contemplating sisterlocks or micro
No I haven't at all.
What are some things you wish you knew before you got them?
I wish I had thought more about the ongoing maintenance than the price of the install.
Yes Dr Joanne Cornwall is the creator of the technique.
Beautiful commentary on SL and Microlocs 😊
But please be careful out here when it comes to your SL , everyone is not out here for your good on your hair periodT.

How do I know whether or not micro locks or sister locks are right for my type of hair
I figured it out by going through my consultations. However, it’s important to note that sisterlocks are interlocked microlocs, and you can start microlocs in multiple ways. If you’re not DIYing you can see if your consultant does microlocs and sisterlocks and if they’ll give you different types of testers. Microlocs are also usually bigger.
Never heard black ppl especially young black ppl saying they thought locs were dirty. How incredibly disgusting and a very weird thing to say. But I guess AA are so far removed from their identity it's crazy

Allow your guest to talk …. Rule of thumb wait 6 seconds before you start speaking.
