"i don't care if you've been acting for 10 years! For this one minute, i won't lose to anybody!" HOLY CRAP MELT BRO. This man almost awakened his own staringan there
Damn, they really animated Melt's backstory and redemption arc beautifully. The first season portrayed him as a loser who can't act for shit, but in the 2nd season, you could see he was trying to prove himself by working overtime, putting in the work, and being a better person. Re-reading chapters 57-58 right now, it hits differently as they really elevated the source material. Man, hats off to Doga Kobo for this wonderful episode
Somehow this literally became my favourite episode of the season, encapsulating everything we love about Oshi no Ko. Seeing Melt's character arc done so well was amazing and it was so good you don't even realise the whole episode just focused on him. And my goodness the animation?!?
That Melt sequence after "I won't lose to anybody" is the best sequence in this season and one of the best in the show. Very reminiscent of young Ruby dancing with Ai in episode 1
As a manga reader since even before season 1 came out.. this is BETTER than I thought was possible. Just imagine how good some anime would be if the medium itself was fully taken advantage of. Oshi no ko even added scenes, explained stuff in a way that makes sense without the tiny blocks of text with explanation. It is by far my favorite manga adaptation.
I can’t even fully explain why but the end of this episode literally brought me to tears, I guess I can just really relate to putting your all into something, and then the artistic montage towards the end showcasing how he literally put his blood sweat and tears into that final moment really hit. Phenomenal episode.
Unreal episode today. Animation was crazy, storyboarding/screenplay were spot on. It all really connected me to Melt. This season has fucking slapped so hard so far
I remember the first time I read Melt's "Redemption Arc", I almost cried due to him doing his damnedest to keep up with his fellow cast members and the moment he redeemed himself in front of the two authors.
This episode was insane first starting the episode as us in the crowds and zooming us into the play then it protrays melt character so well looking into him as a person and his struggles and how he become what he is in the play putting himself into the character. How aqua helped him massive by giving him advice. And then animation was insane holy crap
3:06 We are getting more than we wanted. I would be perfectly content with it just recreating exactly what was in manga just as animation but the anime gives so much more. With all these abstract shots, with added lines, with bigger part of a play shown this anime adaptation is better than manga
This was one of my favorite moments in this arc while reading the manga, and they absolutely nailed it! I’m so happy this got the quality adaptation it deserved. And yeah, I didn’t believe Melt would end up becoming a favorite character for me until it happened either. 😂
This episode really had the best animation choice of this whole anime season. As the theater looked so on point that I wished that got to experience it in person. Because everything felt so real especially how the actors. Had wires so that they could jump around the big stage scene. Which looked so amazing then the acting of our gang was so lovely to see as well. As they really went all out especially our boy Melt. Who gave 120% of his performance during his final scene. Because he could really connect with his character thinking he was hot shit but did find out he was just nigh useless. Which really turned his perceptive on its head. As he really wanted to give it his all now to his acting, instead of just doing the bare minimal. I also liked how he was hugged and well respected now by the actor who did put him down last episode. Another thing I liked is how that one guy say that he did pick Melt not because he was a hidden talent. But rather just as a personal favorite, which is good that we see it from the this perspective now. As usually in shows with actors and plays, the one who pick personal favorite are seen in a negative light. Also had to say that it was so cute how the manga author of Tokyo got so excited over this play🥰
MELT POPPED THE F*CK OFF! That entire scene with him chasing a star with an abstract style was perfect to showing his hard work and REBIRTH. It was absolutely perfect! I’m so proud of him and I’m so glad to see Yoriko overjoyed with his performance after what he did to her series.
It's funny that you don't see it coming because this has become a stock for Oshi No Ko now. Mommy Miyako starts out as a total villainess bitch, but becomes best girl by the end of the first episode. We start off with the twins wanting to kill little Kana, but then her entire backstory and the fact that she, too, is a dogged, hard worker who never gives up on her dream makes her sympathetic and she deserves every last one of the white lights in the crowd at the end of B. Komachi's first big performance. So it's actually pretty common for Oshi No Ko to turn a villain into a hero, now, but somehow you still don't see it coming. I also love the way that it was done. Instead of the doing what a western production might have done and have him suddenly find his inner strength and blow everyone away with sheer will-power alone, he's still as bad an actor as he has been all through rehearsals (way better than Sweet Today, but still not good) but manages to impress everyone with this one shining moment that is rooted in his own experiences up to that point. Far more human and relatable than if he were to just dig deep and become the super saiyan of actors out of nowhere.
Of course not, it's so easy to lean into the "never-changing nature mindset" that's present in society, and forget every single time that, damn, people do change after all.
Oshi no ko keeps uping the anti with each episode with its animation, VA work, writing and development. I know we are only half way true second season but I already want a 3rd one I am fine if we have to wait 2 years or more with this kind of attention and work put into a show they can seriously take their time cooking.
Stand proud Melt, you can act Edit: Ok, I just got done watching the episode, and as a manga reader, that finale had me teary eyed. Doga Kobo is going above and beyond with their OnK adaptation
They really cooked with Melt's character man what turn around and now that's character writing and development at its peak. From essentialy a backround character to MVP character. He had lady lucky and looks in side but inside felt empty since he could anything easy but when it came to acting that was another legue entirely. But he did not want to give up even if he knows his actincg skills he strives to be bettert and improve. He awakened and set his heart a blaze.
This show even does a lot with the characters you don't even think much of. Melt seemed like a gag character, but this episode proved he's more than just a gag.
This episode surpassed what was already one of the best parts of this arc at least thus far I don't know what will happen after half way of next episode. But it lives up to the episode 6 of last season for sure.
As a manga reader It's just as I imagined I knew they would extend the play scenes when the made an entire song for kana at season1 next episode gona get more better
First this was only the first part of this play and this was so freaking good! Second, Melt, he popped off! He really did and once again i get to see an incredible way of living again. If you suck, then focus on one thing, hone it until it’s the best you can give. He did amazing 👏👏👏👏
I cried happy tears! It's definitely my favorite Oshi No Ko episode, and honestly, maybe my favorite episode of anything this year. I honestly can't wait to watch it again when I show my husband.
This episode goes to show just how well this anime is produced. Melt's redemption definitely was memorable in the manga, and I was looking forward to seeing how it was adapted... but I would say it's easily not in my top 10 favorite chapters in the manga. But this episode? I'd say easily top 5. This episode clearly blew the original source out of the water - and it was already a good chapter.
Thinking about this peak of Melt, it all started and focused it's potential thanks to the suble active protagonism of Aqua's thanks to his previous work and a clue given by him with it's way of acting (study of the elements of the media they're acting, including the psychology of the viewer) making him not only work hard his acting, but also SMART. Using Akane character incarnation he found himself reflected in his character while trying really hard, giving him motivation, but also a genuine and captivating emotions to be used in that scene which was THE Best option threw his eyes (also one of the peak moments of his perfomed character), so both the in- and outside story viewers reacted to Melt acting, which were exploited with his flashback after recovering from being so outshined by his rival, so he broke the initial bad perception of his acting for everyone including us (except aqua's target which had so good eye to pick Ai in the past). So he got there not just by chance, but also for realizing where and how to work hard.
I am not gonna lie this might be my Peak Oshi no Ko episode and it catches you off guard just like How Narushima did with this acting. The episode was pure art.
I didn't even feel like i was an audience member getting immersed in a play, i legit felt like i was an observer in that world. Melt went all out in that one, holy shit.
I watched in awe for some 25 minutes while this episode bounced us between the second, third, and forth walls for a production I wish I could see in real life. This was extremely ambitious and executed perfectly. Bravo animators.
I've been DYING to see this animated ever since I read it in the manga. I knew they were gonna go above and beyond, and had pretty high expectations and they somehow exceeded them manifold. My boi was always best boy, people just didn't know it yet, but now they do. People praise the prologue a lot, but to me this arc and the one after it was when Oshi no Ko peaked.
As a manga reader, I am extremely fucking proud of the animators, they are doing a very good job I am honestly beginning to regret reading the manga, this is more than several times better... I didn't like 2.5D Stage Play in the manga originally because I had a hard time understanding what's going on for some reason and never went back to read it again, but I see why people like it now and yeah I agree its insane, I do have some moments I am personally waiting for in this season however soontm :P
My respect for Melt went way up this episode, that I honestly felt like the audience in that moment. After the way he’s been looked down since that show, this was the perfect way to redeem himself. Also I love how supportive Aqua and Kana have been towards him this whole time.
I like this episode at it shows that even if you’re a bad actor, one can overcome it and become better overtime with growth. Neat about Kana’s performance in Act one of Tokyo Blade. She really glowing in this episode.

quoting someone from reddit, the "he's just like me fr" moment with the character he portrayed in the stage play hit hard
We saw a hint of Melt greatness last week when my boy got Green Haired Ahole away from Minami.
But this week? LFG, MY BOY MELT!!!!!!!

If you think this is a top 5 moment you'll likely have to demote it from there in the upcoming few episodes.
Melt had his own episode that put the spotline on him but somehow Ruby just got into the background for a long time.😢

THATS WHAT I THOUGHT
The anime community when they see Oshi No Ko with better fight scenes than like every action anime this season:
tbh aqua become edgier IMO, I still like him but I prefer taiki and melt

Yeah, but Melt would be ppls best boy precisely bcs he's not the MC, for what I think at least. Being the MC is a curse 😂
