This is how true rivalry should be written. Not in terms of power, but in the psychology of the characters and the way rivals tear each other down and rebuild themselves from the ground up while not forgetting the journeys that made them into who they are! Simply perfection
The Kana-Akane rivalry is seriously one of the most well-written rivalries I've seen. Going back to S1 you knew they had history, and going back to 2 weeks ago they revealed that Akane idolized Kana. They finally show you what triggered the rivalry - Kana winning a role in a rigged competition, Akane not handling the news well, and Kana telling her off for idolizing someone she sees as pathetic (as in an introspective opinion of herself) - and you think "okay - Akane hates Kana because of this incident"... but that's not what it was at all. Akane was thrown in the moment, but she quickly got over that, and instead needed the answer to "why would Kana say such things?"... and this was the trigger to Akane becoming so interested in psychology to the point where any intelligence agency around the world would hire her, and she pegged pretty quickly why Kana is the way she is - and it makes her sick. Not because she's some spoiled brat who shines brighter than anyone else - but because that's NOT what she is anymore. And as a result Kana has a total misunderstanding of "Akane thinks her version of acting is right" - Akane wants to draw out the best version of Kana and then beat that version of Kana at her own game. It's just so multilayered.
this season of oshi no ko hit me in a personal level, the reason i got interested in reading the manga in the first place is because just a few weeks before the pandemic, i got to watch a theater play, and since then i got interested in how they work things out, i saw staff running backstage, how they move props and how the simple things like lighting and sound design can elevate a production to the next level, it was an unforgettable experience since i never got to see one again because of the pandemic, and just watching this season, i'm genuinely amazed how they captured that feeling perfectly, we are 2x removed from the theater experience yet they managed to perfectly replicate it, the great story and character writing is just the sprinkle on top.
For Akane it's 1% inspiration 99% perspiration. She really has to work hard, study, analyze, and perform to get to where Kana was at. She was naturally gifted, but they both push each other.
Can we give massive love Megumi Han and Manaka Iwami? They KILLED it as Kana and Akane, having to play young versions, teen versions, and stage versions of the characters!
Wow so Kana was the reason why Akane became so analytical and delves into the psychology of her characters, Akane wanted to understand why Kana said what she did at the audition that much. I wasn't expecting Akane's love for Kana when she was a child to be that strong, you could argue much of that feeling still remains considering she wants to outshine her so badly because she doesn't approve of the acting she does, but it's interesting how much of an influence Kana really had on Akane.
@@actionvids35 Akane does have an amount of resilience towards the attitude that she receive from Kana. Imagine being a kid who doesnt understand anything and get lash out poorly as a little girl but she doesnt seem too sad or crying. but still years after years Akane still wanted to reach out to Kana just for the sake of that acting rivalry.
@@ronmanvici8371 Akane was very mature to actually takes time to study and figure out why Kana acted like that. Normal kids would have made a fuss and just thought Kana was an asshole. Many adults don't have the Akane's patience and attitude.
Once again Oshi No Ko did showcase such great animation directing. Like it probably is the best of the years that we have seen from these two last episodes. Also really like how the relationship between Akane and Kana is so complicated. As Akane used to admire her, then when they finally meet Kana was angry at her. Probably because she was angry at herself so seeing someone trying to look like her. Made her feel even worse so she did slash out. Akane then to understand why Kana did what she did. Was to start study psychology which really show her character. In how rather than starting to make up her mind with “false information” she did study to try and find the actual reason behind it. Which is a usual thing to see. Also the fact that Akane only hate the way Kana is acting now compared to her childhood golden years. Just put the whole conflict into context, as Akane wants her to revert to her previous self. But because Kana have been burned so many time in her acting carrier. She have decided to just merely survive rather then shrine. Which is what Aqua and Akane are going to try and change next episode. Which I really am looking forward to. Also at the end when Akane was doubting her feelings, Aqua did support her which show him as such good boyfriend material once again
This episode was fuc*ing amazing..the way Kana and Akane's feelings were portrayed was so good. It's the second time they bring me to tears as i see the manga being adapted so well. Tokyo blade will probably be 2 or 3 episodes more max.
2 more episode, next will focus on Kana, and last one on Aqua, when Princess Saya dies. And that's how the play ends. Apparently there's 6 more episode for this season ( season 2 = 13 episode ) I guess it's gonna focus on Ruby, given that the ending was on her. Prepare your tissues cause everything goes downhill after the play XD
I felt bad for Kana, she clearly hated not having her acting valued, I'm sure we've seen this in the first season but seeing her lash out at Akane because of it and how it's created this more supportive Kana that acts based on others was interesting to see. also liked how when it seemed like it was time to see Akane vs Kana, Kana dims her acting so that Akane could continue shining. That moment had great impact on me because I was like "We're finally going to see it" but I like that it was a reminder that in reality, Akane also has her own demons to take care of and it's not as simple to switch them off. I look forward to seeing how Aqua and Akane will bring out the true shine of Akane.
1:15 i love that cut. It made that scene much more intense Season 1 big impact was the mother death and probably the bridge scene where this season had alot of insane moments 4:45 she was able to play the without a Monologue 5:52 that the one thing they say never meet your idols 6:29 akane point make sense
This was once again, Absolute Cinema 🙌🏻 Akane and Kana' rivalry is so interesting and passionate to follow! I hope Aqua and Akane can make Kana out of her shell!! This is the best Anime Adaptation for Oshi no Ko 😭
0:31 not exactly about the jumpscare but during this episode I also thought about older disney films This episode was amazing. Last week Elusive Samurai made me question which is my favourite anime of the season and now oshinoko reshuffles my top 3. This episode made me forget that this is weekly serialized anime not full scale movie. Last week I thought that if Melt episode was so good I am scared of how good will be next weeks(this) episode. And now just as last week, if this is how setup for what will happen looks like just how amazing will be culmination of all this. Up to this point I was thinking I 'maybe' will cry but now I'm 100% sure I will be crying.
For the love of all that is greasy! This is why I said that I wished this part was 90 minutes long. To me, this clash between Akane and Kana is the second coming of the greatest moments of Kaleido Star, my favorite "theatre within an anime" series. Seriously, if you have the time, watch that series. To be specific, this was like watching again the "Arabian Nights" arc of Kaleido Star, where the two co-protagonists, Sora Naegino and Layla Hamilton use their professional rivalry to REALLY elevate the climax of the play. This episode conveys the same energy. The same sheer, unrelenting impact, as they blend the whole tale of that rivalry that is reaching its climatic moment right there, both in and out of the play. I love it. But as amazing as the rivalry between these two gals is, we are creeping closer to THE MOMENT. And the wait is killing me! Will we see it happen next week? PD: I so wish Akasaka-sensei would make the actual mangas of Tokyo Blade and Sweet Today. With HIS talent, they would be so damn fantastic. And I would buy every damn volume and watch every anime episode. 'Cause he sells those two tales real good across his Oshi no Ko and Kaguya-sama.
I can’t even begin to imagine what would’ve happened if Kana had picked up the gauntlet that Akane had thrown down. They would’ve driven the audience wild.
Well it got even better and Akane, she just absolutely stole the show from acting, worship, disappointment, and the rebirth of the one she idolizes. This episode was fantastic
I love Kana, I was on her side this whole time bc I wanted to see her improve, at first I was kinda feeling the rivalry against Akane, and didn’t really like her, but I then realised that Akane was actually also on the side of us Kana fans’ side, she also wants Kana to be better It, it hurt so so much to see Kana want to rise and take the spotlight, but then immediately shoot herself in the foot

The best rivals are those that foil each other's character. Good examples are Joker and Batman, Kana and Akana, Naruto and Sasuke, etc.

Aqua being aqua blatantly praising other woman in front of his GF 🤣
yeah that pissed me off though its probably because he wants to help Kana
I think Akane was more upset that Aqua understood Kana better than she did lmao

Akane can probably be classified as obsessive when it comes to situations like this. She’s pretty crazy, which elevates her acting to a higher level.
