I too learned first painting with acrylics, then after more than a decade of that tried oils. It was like discovering Magic! I met a new friend in the art building that became my studio and home who taught me his method of doing his layouts and under paintings in acrylics then fine tuning and details in oils. Oils over acrylics work extremely well and greatly extend the archiveability of the painting by protecting the canvas from being degraded by the oils over time. Thanks for your helpful advice.
I just moved from acrylics to oils. It took awhile for me to convert because of the toxic mediums and cleaning fluids. How would you clean your brushes please? Without using turps. Thank you.
@@babycakes9337 Please watch my video about brush cleaning here: Brush cleaning made easy th-cam.com/video/HzawCnbsCSU/w-d-xo.html I hope I answer your question in this video, if not come back to me I will help you. There are different solutions to clean brushes without solvent, Safflower Oil is one of them 🙏🏻
My sister gave all her oil painting supplies , paints and easel when I told her I wanted to paint my astrophotography . What were all the other mediums one being linseed oil. After this video I’m only going to use linseed oil and the ways it will work for me. I’m learning wet on wet painting landscape .
@@danjensen9425 sounds great 👍🏻 if linseed oil is a little to thick sometimes, just add a little bit of mineral spirit 🙏🏻 careful not too much oil when starting the painting 🙏🏻
Have you ever tested a siccative containing cobalt? From my understanding, you need 1-2% of the siccative in linseed oil to accelerate drying. The paint should dry within 6-12 hours, though titanium white may take up to 48 hours to fully dry.
@@staffanscherloff4596 no I haven’t tested, since I am not looking for fast drying. But good to know, thank you 🙏🏻 Don’t forget that even if the drying time accelerates, it is only dry to the touch. The paint will still need around 6 months to a year to fully cure. I will look into it, might need it one day for plein air painting, who knows. Thanks 🙏🏻
Thank you so much for your advice and demonstration! Greatly appreciated ❤

Hey sounds good! So cool to have art buddies! Keep it up!
You are welcome, my pleasure 🙏🏻
I had a similar discovery about painting oils on oil prime. Never ever went back to oil on acrylic gesso.
@@Nrodrew yeah I heard it’s amazing. I’ll try it one day maybe, right now my workflow is set with acrylic gesso but I keep mind open 🙏🏻
Thank you very much for such valuable advice!

Totally agree! Thank you for sharing your experience. I agree we as artists have to experience for ourselves, experiment on our own! Thank you!

Linseed oil or Linseed oil in gel is the best medium.
@@lophoflora agreed, never tried it in gel form though. Love the regular one 🙏🏻
