"I am Morpheus in this hip hop matrix, exposing fake shit"
Bro it might also be "amorphous".which is a killah bar i personally coz i studied studied material science
Then it means this line was a double entendre@@shepardmusic5380
This song was ahead of its time. The Revolution is NOW.
Yup
True that ❤
REAL TALK 💯
"Dealing with alcoholism and afrocentricty a complex man drawn off of simplicity! "Solidified lyrical genius
Showing off his simplicity
DOPE
That whole verse man
Reality is frisking me.
Now I can appreciate this moment in time ball players and actors be reciting my lines
Common is one special rapper
+Darnell Hamlet That dude is a RARITY in a time when'Lil' Wayne'is actually being called a lyricist!!
Truth!
What's sad is that Wayne has so many monster hits while Common has a few minor hits like The Light (which is really heartwarming for female audience).
depends what you define as a lyricist ...
This song is deep and the video deserves an award.....however this world never promotw truth and will forever feed lies.
Bilal's voice was hauntingly good on this. Common's hardest bars. One of premo's dopest beats.
CLASSIC
humphre3000 not to mention his video is legit on some MJ Shit
YES! I thought it was just me! "And you know...yes you knooooow...".
Bilal always comes thru and kills the game
It was some of Primo´s stock beats, not great, and a very cheap video to boot. Common can do much better. Cant wait for his collab with Q-Tip. The Standard they call it. 2019. De La Soul Mos Def and Lupe Fiasco should be in it from what Im hearing.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
Never thought someone singing the words “And you know , yes you know” could be so powerful 😩😩😩
"I just want to innovate, and stimulate minds, travel the world, and penetrate the times" nice lyrics there Common!
Beautiful
That shit was ill
Powerful
Escape through rhythm in search of peace and wisdom....
this shit still sounds like greatness today 🤯
Always will be
One of the best rap songs ever !!!
True that
Common is so underrated!! He can tell a story under a topic that depicted the future. His lyrics are so impactful! He used over 350 different words in 1 song. Top 25 rapper

The best in honesty as well 💯
Still gives me chills the same way it did when it dropped
Same here my brotha..
Damn just heard this today and it gave me the chills too.
Same here❤
“Greet brothas wit handshakes on ghetto landscapes, where a man is determined by how much a man makes”
This nigga, man smh real poetry
Common really comes from the heart 💯
Dope af, too many quotables in this song. And not even some dumb ignorant shit.
One of the most powerfully pure rap songs ever made!! This is HIP HOP!!
My friend This is reality!
@@centraldixie3858 my good friend!! Art imitates life, not the other way around!! Life is reality...this is art!! Be blessed in mind, body spirit!!
Common's best song. One of Premo's best beats.
One of Premo's best beats.
They don't let the visuals speak this loud anymore.
You know a DJ Premier classic when you hear one...

This was during the second "conscious era" of hip hop, '98-'02... bling/jiggy/thug rap still dominated the airwaves, but cats like Common, The Roots, Black Star, Blackalicious, Dead Prez, Pharoah Monche, Outkast, etc. were still giving you that food for thought. That shit held me down during that time.
Ronald Donald We might be in one right now with cats like Kendrick Lamar and Ab Soul leading the way. Chance the Rapper, Onyx, Lil Boosie, B.O.B., Lupe Fiasco and even older vets like Common and De La Soul have all released "woke" records over the last 5 years or so.

The wordplay on this track, is amazing!
THE INCREDIBLE DJ PREMIER, HIPHOP IS TRULY DEAD
StopBeingAKeyBoardKiller&MousePadMobster!
"If revolution had a movie I'd be theme music"
In front of 2inch glass at Arabs I order fries, inspiration when i write i see my daughters eyes, I'm the truth across the table from corporate lies, im immortalized by the realness I bring to it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😺
No doubt!!
"Greet brothers with handshakes on ghetto landscapes"
That is one of the greatest rhymes I've ever heard.
hip hop at the highest level. common is shakespeare
African conservative you know the REAL music !
Amadu Kamara preach brotha man
Not just great lyricsm, but an extraordinary beat to match, and the scratches are gold, this is everything a rap song should be.
this is one of the best rap songs ever
DJ Premier is sick on this beat.
22 years later and still jamming to this joint!! Definitely one of my favorite classics of all time. Seeing him performing this track at the Nottingham Festival in England a great memory.
I got love for Common, always spreading the truth and stays true to his people.
Real hip hop.. through me, Muhammad will forever speak
The name of nation of Islam's newspaper was Muhammad speaks
Common not only paints a picture with his rhymes , he speaks the truth and inspires. Real Hip-Hop
Bilal, Preemo and Common oh my god...all 3 came overly hard
Agreed!
Cant forget the Prodigy scratches
This Premier beat is straight up a ray of light through the pain and struggle. Classic 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾🎤🎤🎤🎤
I've been listening to hip-hop since "94. This is literally one of the dopest beats of all time. Can't tell me nothing.
Premo's signature all over. Comman never goes wrong with rap, Bilal blessed this one plushly.
I miss this common . . . The one that made me think
Yes true
SoulVibez this com didn't go anywhere, he's still dropping knowledge in his records
atcquentin I listened to his last album,'Nobody's smiling' . . I liked two songs 'rewind that' and '7 Deadly sins' . . . 'Rewind that' was heart felt, '7 Deadly sins' was what it was . . . wisdom . . . the other tracks were dated. I know most Fans won't like me saying it, but I wish he release Electric Circus 13 years late, lyrically compelling and ambitious bold experimental production that seems to be the route and direction of the new school hip hop.
Black America Again was great
Electric Circus was released on the right time. 13 years later it would be without Dilla. The fact, that it is so ahead of its time makes it even more valuable. Othervise, I agree that Nobodys smiling was quite a letdown, but Black America Again is my favorite album of 2016. So much soul, musically very wealthy production, Karriem Riggins fits so well with Common. I hope that the next Common album would have even more Soulquarians members on it. Peace.
Actually think this is one of preemo’s best ever beats.the man is the absolute🐐
If you aint get the shivers then you are disconnected from the essence of your own soul!!
Damn, Common was decades ahead of his time! He saw this 2020 sh!t coming!
God bless all colors! 🙏
Black lives MATTER! ✊🏿✊🏽✊🏾
Black lives matter. No more like fight the power. I mean when has black lives matter in America. That name needs to be change to we shall overcome or by any means necessary or fight the power . Spread the word.
Like Water for Chocolate Forever one of his best album he ever made💯💯🎧🎤🎵🎶🔥🔥🔥
Premier does it again!
This video is a reflective of what's going on rite now today.
"Under the Fubu, is a Guru..." This brother is from another Galaxy! That real hip-hop. This is not a moment, this is a movement!
That’s how much of a legend prodigy is/was, everyone sampled his lyrics man!!
Best Chicago rapper of all Time!
Lyrically yes but overall ye #1, com 2
Definitely
Twista and Common are the two OGs off Chicago hip hop they even released there first albums on the same day and same year. Twista said so in an interview on Vlad TV

I was going to post a comment like this but I knew it was already going to be posted by the time I scrolled down. I should've known someone would've caught on. It is happening indeed ✊🏾
Salute King

Another banging track from Dj Premier! Common killin every track he blesses! I love real conscious hiphop!
Mario Linton YES!! I don't know WHAT tf is going on now. Trying to keep black folks sleep.
This is music with real meaning. Common's putting words together words beautifully over dope production. Bilal does a great feature.
under the fubu is a guru!!!what a legend common is....always on point with his lyrics!!!!HIPHOP heads worldwide connected!!!peace
Bilal's vocals on this track are nothing less than great.
That's the real hip hop out there got you👊🔥🎶
Common's poetic divinity is unparalleled. Common renders poetic wisdom so deep in rhyme that if one isn't mentally chiseled, not only will they be subject to appreciatin his lyrical weaponry, but they won't even be able to comprehend it. This is simply MAJESTIC in its essence.
This video literally depicts what's happening in America.
I even saw an old white man with a red cap
north-america you say?, you forget south and central
Because this been going on 4 at least 60 years
@@cristobaljullianfigueroa1290 same there also
And everywhere else, CUBA, HAITI, parts in the Middle East, Venezuela
Very relevant right now..
Man..its a shame that we wont ever get a song like this again...the production..the verse..the hook...so powerful.
“By not preaching to me but speaking to me, in a method that was leisurely.” 🙏
"My music you either fight, fuck, or dream to it."
I heard this song for the first time when it came out and I was nine, and it still invokes my dreams and aspirations 15 years later. Every aspect of this song, lyrically and rhythmically is just so fucking beautiful it's still magnetic and awe inspiring. Perfect song for a walk through the Chi on a beautiful day.
Real hip hop music, from the soul y'all
Common is the overall true GOAT RT💯✔️
i cant believe this is 20 years old nearly.....time really doesnt mess around
Time don't play
"This real hip hop music from the soul yall" i know that's right com. You epitomize real hip hop. RIP G Floyd, we still fighting for you
i had this album back in 2000 when i first got into the hip hop scene.. i was 15 now i'm 31, and still rockin it PEACE PSWIF ONE SINCE 1999 1
Common dropping heavier levels, one of my favourite premier beats
Common ahead of his time 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
We in Afrika, Botswana, Gaborone City wish to declare this song a top 10 classic of time.
The revolution will not be televised
The revolution is here
Yeah, it's Common Sense, with DJ Premier
We gonna help y'all see clear
It's real hip-hop music, from the soul, y'all
Yeah, check it, yo
The perseverance of a rebel I drop heavier levels
It's unseen or heard, a king with words
Can't knock the hustle, but I've seen street dreams deferred
Dark spots in my mind where the scene occurred
Some say I'm too deep, I'm in too deep to sleep
Through me, Muhammad will forever speak
Greet brothers with handshakes in ghetto landscapes
Where a man is determined by how much a man make
Cop Cognacs and spit old raps with young cats
With cigarettes in their ear, niggerish they appear
Under the Fubu is a guru, that's untapped
Want to be in the rap race but ain't ran one lap
Ran so far from the streets that you can't come back
You tripping with nowhere to unpack, forgot that
In front of two-inch glass and Arabs I order fries
Inspiration when I write, I see my daughter's eyes
I'm the truth, across the table from corporate lies
Immortalized by the realness I bring to it
If revolution had a movie I'd be theme music
My music, you either fight, fuck, or dream to it
My life is one big rhyme, I try to scheme through it
Through my shell, never knew what the divine would bring to it
I'd be lying if I said I didn't want millions
More than money saved, I want to save children
Dealing with alcoholism and afrocentricity
A complex man drawn off of simplicity
Reality is frisking me
This industry will make you lose intensity
The Common Sense in me remembers the basement
I'm Morpheus in this hip-hop Matrix, exposing fake shit
Some days I take the L to gel with the real world
Got on at 87th, stopped by this little girl
She recited raps, I forgot where they was from
In 'em, she was saying how she made brothers cum
I start thinking, how many souls hip-hop has affected
How many dead folks this art resurrected
How many nations this culture connected
Who am I to judge one's perspective?
Though some of that shit y'all pop true it, I ain't relating
If I don't like it, I don't like it, that don't mean that I'm hating
I just want to innovate and stimulate minds
Travel the world and penetrate the times
Escape through rhythms in search of peace and wisdom
Raps are smoke signals letting the streets know I'm with 'em
For now I appreciate this moment in time
Ball players and actors be knowing my rhymes, it's like
Bars and Thoughtquakes 🎇💎.
Well said 🎯🎯🎯
A Hip-Hop Classic!
One of the best!
1:31 way too smooth my goodness🔥🔥🔥
This is so beautiful it almost makes me want to cry 😢
This is the essence of real hip hop. Inspirational, intelectual and diverse. Makes you stop what your'e doing and think whilst oozing style at the same time. Classic...
"If revolution had a movie I be theme music"-Common
He told he future with that one.... He went and did Glory with John Legend from the Selma soundtrack...
I get a chill everytime man
This is my favorite Hip Hop song ever, it really stood the test of time. This is what im giving my son when he asks why i love Hip Hop.
This song just came to me. Watching this video in 2020. So RELEVANT To what is going today man. ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
This explains a lot especially with what’s going on today .. real music ✊🏼❤️
In 2014, there are so many rappers.... Many can't describe the word rapper, but Common isn't a rapper. I see Common as more of a lyricist. Common is the Picasso of Hip Hop. I believe
Actually, Common is a *real* _Rapper_ and most aren’t. Real Rap is Rhythm-and-poetry.
20 years later and the 6th sense is the sound of the revolution now in 2020 #blacklivesmatter #ripgeorgefloyd
Happy birthday to one of the Greatest MC's ever to touch a Mic!! Common sense!!
Common is one of my all time Favorites!
Common is my favorite right next to Nas! Good to see people who know what good music is!
Deshawn Sanders im glad you say that Nas and Common are my favorite Mc's and it is good to see not everyone is all over tupac and biggie for once

This track is befitting for today’s chaos
“If I don’t like it I don’t like it. That don’t mean that I’m hating”. Dope line. I been saying that ever since.
“Reality is frisking me”. Such great imagery and illustrative lyrics in this song
Man common will always be a much better rapper than the clowns these days!!
Even in 2023, HE IS STILL HIM
Common is a legend💯... i cant believe so many people doesn't listen to him he should definitely be top 5 for sure unfortunately life is unfair 😢
COMMON BRINGS IT TO THE TABLE...IF THIS WAS A MOVIE,,HE'D BE THE THEME MUSIK....THINK ITS PARRALEL WIT WHERE WE ARE,,AT THIS MOMENT....TOTAL COLLAPSE OF SOCIETY
Dealin with alcoholism and afrocentrisity, a complex man drawn off of simplicity
DJ PREMIER all day
I love how every once in awhile Common will drop some doper than average lyrics just to let you know how he goes in.
I love Common and Bilal so much. One of my favourites for sure.
Prodigy....one of the most sampled rappers in Hip Hop history.... R.I.P
“If I don’t like it, I don’t like it, that don’t mean that I’m hating” this is a common misconception to this day.
Foqin id***s who don't understand this but its a common thing in this aira
This song is still Lit!!! :) My favorite. Because has favorite words to live by. Words to push by. Common sense and back to basics. Great! :)
