    This was for the most part one of the most realistic cop movies I’ve ever seen. I felt the most unrealistic part of this movie was towards the end, when they were running through the alleyways, and you didn’t hear sirens lighting off from every different direction of the city, letting them know their brothers were OTW.

      Maybe that's wat the director was going for with them being lost in those dark alleys about to die with no sign of help, that's exactly wat I thought during that part it's game over and no one's coming to save the day and they didn't get fully saved did they one died and other got f**ked up pretty bad. Great film tho 👍

      @@Mike-cs1ft Yeah I agree about the ending being a bit off. The best interpretation I read was that the police were paid off which gave a delay in the reaction time but that would have been very unlikely.

    I love hearing the opinions of people who were actually on the force and have experience in these situations. I'm sure it's hard to go through all that, and not be overcome with things that would put others at a stop.

    Before I watched this movie, I was pretty anti police. I still have grievances with a couple of things, but this movie allowed me to see what cops go through EVERY DAY.
    Because I watched this, I have grown a tremendous amount of respect for police officers and fire fighters. They stop the bad guys so people like me can live my life can live my life safely.

    I've actually been on a welfare check where we couldn't smell the body until after we forced entry. The guy hadn't been seen for about 2 weeks, so we went to his residence, which happened to be a trailer. Checked all the entry points, they were locked. Looked in all the windows, nothing noticeable. So we popped the door with a halligan. As soon as the door opened, it was like a gust of foul air blasted us in the face. So hats off to whoever built that trailer for sealing it so well.

    I asked my dad (who was lapd for 26 years) about the cops taking off their badges to catch a fade. He told me shit like that used to happen a lot prior to the 90’s. Now not so much. But overall it was a pretty realistic movie. Especially in the end, even tho they didn’t put sirens until backup was practically in the alley, I think that was on purpose to show especially in a big city like LA, back up isn’t around the corner every time. EOW is one of the best/most realistic (for cops stuff) cop movies made, IMO. I can't believe you guys didn't show the scene where they talked to the gangster at his house and driver ofc. had his pistol pointed at him under the window sill!!! That was TOTALLY realistic!!
    When I was SSD (in mid-late 90's) in D-6 we always had our gun along-side our leg on T-Stops, but only at night. By the time I went to Vallejo in mid-2000's, they didn't even do it there, then. Time and geography changes things...

      @@shotsfiredpodcast50 I thought that when I first saw it, and then thought about it, and thought he had it out already so he could raise it above the panel/in the window. It would have saved him a half second or so to have his gun already drawn. With known gangbangers, and it being the dude he already fought, I probably would have drawn my weapon as well just in case it's retribution, not information. I don't think it was a mistake, just because they have it marked as a ballistic panel in the movie.

    I absolutely loved End of Watch, even accounting for the unrealistic bits.
    It definitely got my nostalgia itch scratched.
    The parts I loved the most, and found to be the most realistic, were the internal "cop stuff" - and even though every incident got a bit o' the Hollywood treatment, someone with a lot of attention to detail got a lot of things right.
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    24:42 was watching some cops from Texas review this stop scene, interesting how different training and experience differs in how Cops talk about scenes. The cops from Texas (OnlyCops if you want to find their video) were debating if the gun being out of the holster would A, Count as a use of force. And B, Would make sense from a safety standpoint. By the end of their short debate they both agreed that in areas where it's known for gang members, cartels, etc. to be armed it makes sense for Brian to remove his gun in case a gun is pulled on them, and because at least in their area (Not Newton in Los Angeles, Texas) for the gun to be considered a use of force it has to be knowingly out and seen by the suspect or subject of the use of force.

    • @shotsfiredpodcast50
      @shotsfiredpodcast50  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Each department has different policies on whether or not your gun out is considered a use of force. As far as having it out while contacting someone in a vehicle, studies have showed that you can get your gun out of your holster and up on target faster then if you had it out holding it down pointed at the ground. If you want to have your cover officer hold lethal in a concealed spot while you’re the contact, that’s always a tactic you can use, but that takes two people. We have seen Only Cops, seems like they make good content as well.

    Yeoo me and my friends watching this film before and after We became cops, man…. For real… that movie hit all of us… damn near hurt me… it’s a good film, but man… I almost cried at the end. But for real even in a city like NYC, if you get lost or separated, or you can’t tell where you are and radio that to your ppl, you can actually be in a part of a neighborhood where the sirens will go right past the building and back alleys separating you from them… that’s why that part is VERY REAL TO ME…. Cuz many NYPD Stories, even today, be like that, just taking place in a Project Housing complex or semi-suburban neighborhood in the hood

    I feel that all the creative liberties they took during the "unrealistic" tactics were definitely Hollywood magic but also a reflection of the rebellious and relatable main characters. The other cops in the movie acted more "by the book" which is what these real officer reviewers are alluding to. So in that sense, the movie is nearly 100% accurate.

    I once had to kick a door in for a welfare check and didnt realise that they had put an internal cardboard type door on the outside of the house( I did check to see if it was open) but my boot went right through the hole I caused, I fell and got hung up… fortunately it was the back door and only my partner saw but she pissed herself laughing…

      @@shotsfiredpodcast50 we lost a deputy last year in Houston under that scenario.The guy filed to Mexico before being extradited back. The Marshal service used the slain deputy's cuffs and returned him to Houston. This was a pretty big deal. DPS, FBI and all Texas departments went looking for this suspect.. The deputy was just one of those guys that everybody likes. He even got compliments from people he ended up arresting.

    i dont think i saw it in the clip. unless i missed it.
    but i had a question were you guys stand on the scene.
    its the scene where both cops drive up to the gang member that mike earlier had a fight with. as the gang member is talking with the two cops in the car, mike has his weapon out pointed at the gang member hidden.
    i understand its for protection. but can cops really do that in real life?
    cause i thought weapons are only to be drawn out when felt threatened. which in this case they drove up to the gang member and all they were doing were talking about word on the streets

    • @shotsfiredpodcast50
      @shotsfiredpodcast50  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would of been a good scene! Yes that happens, however most police cars have ballistic panels in the door. And the funny thing about that scene was, it says on his door panel “ballistic panel” 😂. So that was pretty pointless.

    Decomp travels so damn far that I hate it on the Ambulance. I know a medic that the one time he had to pick up a DB for the coroner and after dropping it off he went and bought new boots and EMS pants. He got back to the office and told the supervisor he needed a new uniform shirt too. His reasoning was that he didn't want to have anything left that could possibly have any decomp on it.

      Evil knew that these 2 cops were "cowboys" and they would go in foot pursuit of a Code 37 vehicle suspect. The opening shooting happens in Southeast Division (Watts) and they are reassigned later as partners to Newton Division (South Central LA). Most officers that work there are highly motivated and proactive cops. Especially the young cops that are trying to prove themselves to the veterans of the division. I used to tell guys if you go anywhere in the world and say 4 letters, everyone knows what you are talking about. In Los Angeles, if you tell another cop that you work SOE, 77th or Newton, they know what you are talking about. A lot of this movie deals with Los Angeles County issues like Pena's character being called out by the gangster (who is also in the movie "Training Day"). It's not a universal cop story, it's an LA story. KMA 367...
