      Question; if there is latency in the mics and you need to mute, why don't you get the same latency? If you do then how can you record song with drums and bass etc....? Thanks.

    I watched a number of these types of videos and what makes you the best is you aren't rushing nor taking too long to stress a point but most importantly you assume that the people watching already understand the lingo like DAWS. I watched a video before yours and they kept saying DAWS and never took the time to explain what it meant. But you do did and thats one of the many reasons why you're the best!

    To reduce latency for overdubs when recording through plug-ins, lower the buffer size in your DAW as low as possible (usually 64 samples.) While this setting is not always possible, depending on your PC/Mac CPU capability, 128 to 256 samples is almost always acceptable with a track or two with virtually any modern computer. Overdubbing is usually quite acceptable in the 5-10ms range a small buffer size offers. And always turn phantom power off and wait a few seconds to discharge the 12-48volts of current BEFORE unplugging a condenser mic to avoid a “pop” that could destroy a driver!

    I just ordered a new Scarlett 2i2 online, to be delivered on Wednesday. Great video. Quick question. If you.are able to help. I bought a Tape Machine earlier today (Tandberg Series 15) and I am able to record from the tape machine into Ableton. But I am struggling on what to do to record from Ableton back into the tape machine. I am using a Focusrite 18i6. I am wondering what I would set my outputs to in the Focusrite mixrack

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend setting up a pair of outputs on the Focusrite to send a stereo feed to the tape machine. This would be configured in Ableton and Focusrite Control.

    Hello Blue Monk! :) If you don't want to record through a microphone, why do you need an audio interface at all? For example I just want to turn on Ableton Live, draw some MIDI notes and listen to it through my PC speakers. What would the audio interface change here? Thanks!

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good catch!
      You’re correct: If you just want to produce with a USB MIDI controller, you don’t necessarily need an audio interface.

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would work, but it wouldn’t be ideal. It might sound a bit distorted, because it will be a line level signal to an instrument level input. You’ll also only be hearing the left side.

      I think the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a great start. That’s the interface I use in this video. You can get one for about $170.
      If that is outside your budget, the Presonus Audiobox USB 96 is a good option for just under $100.

      It depends on which interface you're using. For example, I don't believe this is possible with the Focusrite Scarlett Solo. On the other hand, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (and above) have a monitor knob and headphone knob separately.

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the condenser microphone, you'll need an XLR cable and for the guitar/piano, you'll need a 1/4-inch instrument cable. Here are my suggestions:
      Microphone Cable:
      - Amazon: amzn.to/2UuKQst
      - B&H: bhpho.to/2T0xzYj
      Instrument Cable:
      - Amazon: amzn.to/3jnoeEX

    • @AudioUniversity

      I think there is value in both. If you want to construct full-length songs, I’d recommended an interface and a DAW. If you just want short loops, a looper is fun.

      If the audio interface has direct monitoring, yes. However, you would probably be better served to use a mixer instead. Check out this post to understand the differences: audiouniversityonline.com/audio-interface-vs-mixer/

    Hallo man, I have situation with my Roland RD700. The sounds module is definitely broken, so can't produce sounds to the box. But it has 5din midi connectors, so my question is can I use only the midi interface without using laptop or pc to produce sounds? And what sort of audio interface can be use? Thanks in advance

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that! Unfortunately, an interface alone will not have any sounds. The interface is simply a way for MIDI data to reach the software in your computer. It's the software that has a library of sounds that are triggered by the MIDI data.
      You might be able to find a stand-alone MIDI server that has built-in sounds that can be triggered through a MIDI DIN connection, but I would guess that using an interface with a laptop would be your best option. I hope this helps!
