    Only thing more boring than polishing rocks is watching someone polish rocks... inexplicably I loved every second of it.

      I'm looking forward to seeing him polish them by hand. From 80 to 2000 grit if possible, and piece by piece.

    Funny, after watching this topic for a couple of years, I look at rocks differently. As we hike, I often think some of those I see would look really pretty polished but it's a National Park, do of course we leave them alone. Still nice to see yours get finished.

    I'm a rock hound too, me and my Dad used to collect them wherever we traveled. I've never tumbled them. Looks interesting. I bet they are some real pretty ones. Can't wait to see the outcome. Have a great week. Y'all keep warm up there. Kinda chilly lol

    When I was still tumbling rocks I'd do a "tumble wash" between grits - because I'm basically lazy. Just water, no grit, no fillers. I'd run it for 1-2 hours (or whenever I remembered it), rinse off the rocks a couple of times with fresh water then onto the next grit. If I was on the 400-500 grit grind before the polish I'd let it run over night. Never had any issues with cross contamination.
    BTW, I always used cerium oxide rather than aluminum oxide or tin oxide. More expensive but it gave a superior polish. Worth every penny!

    Joe, Is there any kind of Rocks you cannot use? like Sandstone or Limestone

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can not tumble real soft stone. Both sandstone and limestone would just become slurry.

    • @NorthernSeclusion
      @NorthernSeclusion  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never tried the Petoskey stones but someone sent me some last year. I may try doing them after this batch. I will want plastic media and will more than likely only do one day in step 2, no step one and then mainly start with step 3. Some places say to add molasses to the slurry to slow things down. I will not know until I try.
