- Hey guys, in this episode we head out to the local reef in search of mackerel. There was some big swell which made the bar crossing fun but unfortunately we go home empty handed! Hope you enjoy the video.

How’d you go? The bar is quite bad at the moment, there is a massive sandbar. Someone flipped their boat yesterday unfortunately
@@primal_pursuit I was crossing out 30 mins before high tide and back 1 hr after high tide. while going out noticed that it is very shallow indeed. my boat is an inflateable cat, with very shallow draft, so that must have helped. had a wave breaking into the boat on the way out, and on the way back the wave behind caught up with me :D next time will spend more time in the gutter, following your vid!

@@primal_pursuit at current stage of my boating life, I am more after thrill of just being on the water :D I rode to Cook island, off twead heads. beautiful place, but very very big swell from SE behind snapper rocks.

Man, I felt your anxiety as you reached the bottom there. Super sketchy. When you can't see past the end of your spear, the imagination takes over. What causes such a huge contrast in vis in the lower water column. I assume some kind of cold water current stiring everything up? Still wierd how the surfcae layer was so blue and clean.
Also just wanted to say how much Ive enjoyed your videos having recently discovered your channel. I've lost count how many videos I've binged over the last few days. Such a relaxed and personable vibe, it almost feel like we're out there with you and the footage is always interesting, regrdless of the catch.

Cheers mate, I have heard that they’re not the best to eat so wasn’t too keen to spear one. Plus, they’re so powerful it could definitely bent my spear!
