Why was he redeemed in this story? In ROTJ, Darth Vader was redeemed because he took action against his master to save Luke. In this one, he was redeemed....because he was defeated by Han and Chewie?
I agree. It seems they wanted to follow the tradition of redeeming Vader but at the same time, they already killed off Luke, making his redemption much harder to pull off. You'd think in Infinities they'd do something different and let him become Emperor or die unrepentant but I guess it's sentimental value for the OT?
No, he hates them because they killed his mother in the most horrible way imaginable. By starvation and torture. To be blunt: The Tusken Raiders should have been wiped out down to the last person long before they killed Beru, they have no sympathy for them and 'they were women and children' does not fly because the women and children allowed the torture and even actively participated in it in canon. They have no redeeming qualities.
Actually, if you get into account that the Jedi "teachings" (basically shaming Anakin into his Chosen One role) actually made him weak-willed, his fall is not that rushed. Just _very_ badly executed. ;/

Damn they rushed Vader’s death. In no universe would Leia ever be able to defeat Darth Vader just like that, even if he wanted to die. And Vader’s armor wouldn’t be pierced that easily and he should be able to deflect those blaster shots.
Isn't Vader's armor like, really bad quality? If one electric shock was enough to kill him then a few shots on specific places don't seem that outlandish.

Even with Yoda saying you have brought balance, umm not really, Sidious is still out there but i don't know, maybe the writers were pressured or didn't care, it seems like they just rushed through this one, A New Hope was a much better all around coherent story.

After this Leia faces palp and says that Vader has perished and he failed and redeemed and that *angers* palpatine and strikes her with a lightning strike. As she gets up, 2 red guards start to show up as Leia force push them to the wall, ends up killing them. Now it was Leia vs Palpatine as he starts to unleash his force lightning, Leia deflects it and they *continued fighting* About 20 minutes of fighting, Leia gets tired and cannot fight no more Palpatine just mocks her to use her anger but no more can he mock, Leia grabbed the lightsaber put it through his chest

This is my favourite use of the force just entering someone’s mind forcing a force vision on someone just being in this dreamscape and controlling the environment to attack the opponent
Yoda lecturing Anakin? Yea...that totally worked the first time around. Totally helped him in not falling to the dark side at all when Anakin talked to Yoda about his fear of losing people that were close to him.
Well not a bad ending, though most of the best heroes are dead, but with Vader gone the Rebellion has nothing more to fear, now all that is left is Palpatine, and perhaps because of all the war crimes that Vader committed in the search for Luke many may be persuaded to join the Rebellion. 🙄
I managed to read the comic when I was a kid. Even if the rest of the comic is a bit lackluster, the mind duel between Yoda and Vader was pretty awesome.
