Thank you for this wonderful time at the beach as we got covered in 15 inches of snow this morning ! It was a pure delight to walk on the beach with you and see the sunrise and cool pelican friend and all the wonderful shells ! 🐚🥰🏖️
I LOVE this episode! I am so glad that you did some night shelling - the best kind of shelling experience, IMO ☺ There's a magic, and serenity that exists on the beach before the sun rises, and you captured it quite well. Loved the yellow Horse Conch, and that HUGE Colorful Moon. Such a great episode, shell friend!
Thank you so much! My favorite time of day is before the sun comes up and on the beach it's even better. I love the way the sun transforms everything. And the morning golden hour - priceless! Thanks for watching!!
It's my favorite Sunday evening time. I just returned from the east coast. Went to my daughter's favorite shell pile. It had been worked on, but it was still okay. I actually found a piece of junonia! Can you believe that, i just felt like i might. I don't know if i will ever find a whole one, but it was exciting. I also found a very calciated apple murex that is huge. I also got to Honeymoon State Park and thought of you the whole time. My grandchildren were impressed by my knowledge of shells, which you have taught us through sharing your beach time with us. Thank you, and I still hope I will get to meet you on a beach. Thanks❣️🦋❣️🐚🐚🐚🌊🌊
Thank you for spending so much time learning on my channel! I'm thrilled you were able to impress your grandchildren. I hope you got lots of the shiva shells from Honeymoon Island too. And I'm out there quite a bit, so we could very well run into each other one day! 😃
What a beautiful day at the beach. I shared your video with my son. We went to the beach the other day and I was telling him all the names of the shells. He asked me how do you know all these names Mom. I told him that I watch a wonderful lady of TH-cam. Thank you are educating us. ❤
Hello from the Catskill & Capital region areas of NY. We just got home from a long weekend in Florida for the Sanibel Shell Show. We were up early for sunrise shelling every day. It was glorious to see. We drove to Marco Island to take a boat out to Keewayden. Found some great stuff there. The other days we went to Sanibel. The shelling wasn’t the greatest but we didn’t care. One morning there was a small deceased hammerhead shark on the beach. We’d never seen one before. The shell show was a great experience. We will be back, SWF is one of our favorite places.
The shell show was so interesting! I loved the science exhibits. It was fun to see other people's shell passion. I'm glad you got to experience SWFL for yourself!
A fabulous sanibel beach walk.. lots of treasures to be found.. I would love night shelling.. but good to be in the light when alone.thank you for the latest adventure!!!..
Oh...at the 6:45 mark...the beautiful sparkly water against the night sky! Every vacation to SWF I loved being up before the sun to see the moonlight sparkle on the water...there's just something so (as you said) magical about being on the beach at night. And don't let me go on about all the treasures you found too!
Thanks for another lovely walk. The information you give on your channel has shown me where to shell on your coast. So thank you. This weekend I attended my first Sanibel shell show and it was outstanding. But the highlight highlight of my time in your area was spent walking Lighthouse beach, Blind Pass beach and Ft. Meyers beach. SWF undeniably has some of the most beautiful shelling beaches anywhere. Hope you got to the show! Judy from Boca
Hi Judy! Yes, I went to the show on Friday. It's fascinating to see how other people collect and what other people find interesting. I spent a majority of my time with the scientific exhibits.
Great video! We found 2 giant jellyfish washed up on our beach when we were in Florida 2 weeks ago. I googled pictures of jellyfish in the area and it looks like we encountered a mushroom cap jellyfish. They were HUGE!
Greetings! It’s been about 2 years since I’ve been to Sanibel and your video was like a stroll down memory lane. The sandy, shell strewn beaches, salty breezes, birds of all sizes feasting. A magical place in my heart. I was impressed with my recall of the names of the shells. Cannot NOT shell while walking the beach.😊. Thanks for bringing these memories back to life.
Great shelling day at SI! Of course the star of the show was that huge gorgeous gaudy!!😊 You found several little ponies too. Went to Lido Key some friends Friday. Worst shelling I've ever experienced there😢. However the Amish buffet was definitely worth it! 🎉🎉😋 Thanks Sharmon! xxoo
Note to self: don't go to Lido key. This winter has been wicked slow shelling. Ugh. I'm still finding things to delight me but it's so different than years past.
"Wow, your sharing really made me feel like I was in that beautiful beach!" Most of the video is like a beautiful picture, whether it is the shimmering sea, or the shellfish, people are enchanted. It's great that your lens captures the beauty and mystery of nature! Look forward to more wonderful sharing from you!"😘
Dear Sharmon, Thank you so much for this wonderful walk at the beach! It came at the right time. ❤ The shells you've found are stunning! Really love that huge true tulip and the colorful moonsnail. Being up that early does certainly have its benefits. My love, I hope you have an amazing week! Thanks again for taking us with you on your beach walks. I appreciate it so much!! 🫶🏻 Sending you a big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤, Ilona
Hello my Netherlands Beach Friend! Finding that big colorful moon snail had me swooning! I love the big, bold and beautiful seashells that just roll up at my feet. I was rewarded for my very early morning! I actually tried to go to Sanibel very early the week prior and my car battery was dead 😳 I didn't have the heart to wake up hubby at 4:30am to get my car going - LOL! I hope you have a good week and I'm sending hugs and sunshine your way! ❤️🐚
You are just a plethora of pristine shell knowledge. My friends and I went and came back to our room and layed them all out on kitchen counter! The little shell that could 😅 each has a story from ocean depths beyond.
Ahhh, my husband and I were just there late February and it was beautiful! Not the best shelling this time, but - hey - plenty of fun shells anyway. What surprised me is the calico clams are not shiny this year. I’ve never seen them with a matte finish until this year. Loved walking “with” you today; thanks so much for taking us along. ❤ Oh, by the way, our hosts walk the beach in the mornings, then she goes back later and hunts for shells. Sometimes the walking is just for talking. 😉 😊
I wish the temperatures were as nice here (Tacoma, WA) as you had on Sanibel. I went to "my" waterfront beach on Saturday, only the 2nd time this year. Didn't find too many of my jingles, but I did manage to collect another 3 pounds, 4.7 oz. of garbage to add to the 2 pounds, 11.2 oz. from mid-February. (Yes, we apparently have a lot of people here who don't respect the beach. Butt our ocean beaches aren't this bad!) What a lovely time you had, in the dark and watching that sunrise! Thank you, as always, Sharmon.
Way to go getting that garbage off the beach! I found lots of garbage at the beach yesterday. I picked up as much as I could and I was just bummed that other people walk right past it, so we have those types too over here. At least I didn't have to brave any crazy weather. While the shells have been slower, the temperature has been warmer. We need a good storm (not a hurricane!!!) to mix things up for us again.
The nutmegs always remind me of snake skin, isn’t that weird. Sanibel is coming back so we’ll and I am delighted to see so much traffic going to Sanibel. Means people are supporting the island so, hopefully, her economy will continue to recover. Lovely stroll, gorgeous shells. Not bad was it!! Hugs and stay safe - me lurgi has almost gone thanks Heavens. xx
I think a lot of the traffic is from contractors who are working on the homes still. We are going to look pretty good by next winter but we're still aways away from things being back to normal. That being said the beaches are getting more sand and they are looking great! Well, when the sun is up and I can see them that is 😉
I’ve seen the lightening whelks that are bendy at the bottom but never kind of wonky at the top. Nice find! The other dark ones were pretty magnificent too.
Sanibel is my bucket list destination. It'll have to wait until one of my children decides to take me. My husband says it's too far and I'm currently having eye problems or I'd make the trip alone with my dog. It's been a cold winter where I live in south Georgia. I'm ready for hot sunny weather. Thank you for sharing some beach time with us.
Hey Sharmon... enjoyed your trip to Sanibel this week. So many lovely finds. I must agree that the star of the show was that incredible Gaudy Nautica. Have a great week, my friend!
Oh heck! We came to Sanibel for a few days but went on a tour to Kice Island (first time) Sunday 0:34 . If I'd stayed put, i might have gotten to say hello. 😀 ❤
Hi Sharmon! Sanibel is a beautiful beach before sunset and during. I cant wait to get back. Wow! That gaudy was absolutely awesome!! And you found some sweet Florida horse conchs. Love it! I get so excited watching your vids. Cant wait for 10k islands next week, thats my heart❤!!! Have a great week!!!
I want to go there so bad. I’m a shell and driftwood lover also. My sister and I have races to get to the shells on the Oregon coast. So much fun😃 It’s on our bucket list to go
You two must come here - I can only imagine you on a shell tour. You'd go nuts! It's so much fun beachcombing here. Low tide? Forget about it - it's awesome!!
I wrap the shells in newspaper - that's it! The delicate shells like Angel wings and sand dollars and urchins I will put in a small box and then put that small box in the larger box with the shells. I hope that helps!
Me and my wife are coming to Fort Myers and we’re going out with Treasure Seekers on 2 different days. We are doing the 6 hour private shelling tour, then the next day we are doing the Keeywaydin 6 hr shelling group tour. We went out with them once before, per your advice and they were absolutely amazing! We absolutely love your channel. Who knows! Maybe we’ll see you on the beach. 😎
Thank u so much..i live in vermont an we got slammed with 6-8 inches of a naat ice an snow storm last night an today...i needed this walk on the beach so much..❤❤ god bless😊
Another great shelling trip with great finds! We just went to Captiva in January but I'm ready to go back. Next year, hopefully I can stay on Sanibel again!
Did u know alot of seashells glow in the UV light? U should take a UV light at night and see what glows..I watch a few other people who hunt for shells and they glow!!!
Just got home from Sanibel yesterday, I was lucky enough to find a spotted eagle ray mouth plate and a pearl oyster (still attached no pearl unfortunately)! Miss shelling already🐚
love our beach time, thank you for sharing your shelling with us I do enjoy the beach so much I have a couple cousins that live in Cape Coral I live in TN
As always, I totally enjoyed watching your day at the beach. Today was cloudy and cold in Southern California. Lol. Hopefully will be warming up. And love seeing those shells. Gets me more excited each time I see your videos for my trip to Florida. Can’t wait.
I can never seem to find shells in California. I think of all the times I’ve been to the beach I maybe have 10 shells. Lol. But I do find a lot of rocks.
@@debbiejones6265 LOL! Well there are some very pretty rocks out there too. :) YT Channel Plum Island Sea Cabin 'Jaime' just got back from the coast of Cali, & found some neat shells there. :)
I went to Sanabel for the first time, around 1981/82, with my parents, and it was the most amazing experience. There were drifts of shells several feet high, and many feet across, and in between those drifts the shells were at least a foot deep everywhere else. I sat all day, each day, just digging down through the drifts of shells, finding the ones I liked the best. There were lots of turkey wings, paper figs, welks, conchs, shark eyes, scallops, shark teeth, sand dollars, paper figs, apple mirex, olives, augers, angel wings, kitten paws, nutmeg (which I didn't know the name of back then) and so many others that I can't remember them all. There were horseshoe crabs and those cute little spotted orange crabs (I can't remember what they were called) and clusters of fiddler crabs walking around. Truly amazing! Luckily, even though I was going home by plane, my parents were going home in a motor home, so they happily took my treasures home with them for me. I was excited to show it all to my husband, but when we went back around 2015, it was nothing like I remember. There were about a quarter the number of shells as that you show on this video, if even that many. And there weren't the variety of shells either. I was so disappointed. I would normally have still been thrilled, had I not gone that other time, and saw how many there were back then. My stepfather said that the high drifts of shells were always there like that, which was why he wanted me to see it back then. He knew how much I would enjoy it. And he was right.
I hear stories of what Sanibel used to be like with these huge piles of shells. I wish I had been able to experience that but I'll take what I can get! I am also kind of glad I didn't grow up here. I don't know if I would love and appreciate the beaches and shells if I grew up surrounded by them.
OMGoodness!! What a great idea to start in the dark and watch the sunrise! Please be careful out there all alone.... but it was so cool. You gathered a very nice haul, Shar. I enjoyed it all.... you know I love my old stooping grounds, Sanibel, but I wanted to ask you about York Island. Is it still there after hurricane Ian came through? Have you been there shelling? Tell me about it please... Thanks for taking me along... Let's go.... to the beach.... next Sunday!! Until then my Beautiful Beach Friend!! 🏖♥
I've never heard of York Island! I just looked it up and there is an island off of Pine Island names York Island. If that is the one you're asking about I believe all the islands are still there after Ian. Doesn't look like very good shelling so I've never been there - LOL!
I'm going to shelling tomorrow in Fernandina and man I wish we got some of the shells you do in your area. I never find tulips and I've only ever found one fighting conch, but I love how hefty they are. I think my favorites to find are sand dollars and big conch shells, but I do not come across those often either!
Hi, all you beachy people! How many of you dislike Daylight Savings Time! I sure do! Great Jumping Neptune! I didnt know Gaudy Nauticas came that big! I never saw a pelican fishing like that, either! He seemed to be using the cresting wave as a hiding place! Cool! Love from Tennessee to all of my bwach friends and, as always, to my Beach Angel from Rebecca, The Lost Mermaid
I was so tickled with that big colorful moonsnail - my shell nerd friend actually reached out to the Sanibel Shell Museum and they already had one bigger. Good thing - I wanted to keep mine LOL! What a fun morning. To leave to early felt weird, but that's what creeping around in the dark will do! Much love mermaid - XOXOXO
Please be careful! Lone women have been attacked up the coast while shelling in the dark. Even men have been robbed! Consider some mace or a good knife!
Great shell finds today. Love your beach walks hunting for the shells. Can you tell me what shell's can be found on Redington Beach. I have a trip there in a few weeks. Thanks for sharing your life on the beaches
Thank you for visiting Sanibel where my heart is. My husband and I got married there on the beach at sunset. We haven’t been there since Ian though. Do you ever find live pen shells? I never have so I am curious. Love from Ohio 🐚🌊🐬🧜♀️🌅🐡🦑🪸⛵️ P.S. Do you ever find lion paws? If so, where?
I have never seen a live pen shell but I would love to. I am fascinated with all the creatures that make these seashells. I have found a Lion's Paw on Captiva once. They can be found on the West Coast but they are really more of an East Coast shell.
I have never seen a live slipper snail not attached to something! The mature snails will stack on top of each other for reproduction purposes but I think it would be quite rare to find a living one not already attached to a shell.
Your videos are taking me longer and longer to view bc I find myself pausing the video to see what I can see before I become enchanted by your find. It's fun. Question: why are slipper shells attached to empty shells? Are they eating the calcium in the shell? Are they using the shell to cover more ground or have more opportunities to filter feed? Bonus on 1st true tulip! That was a big one. Lack of color from fading or is that it's original coloring? Love love love scallops - bay and calico. Cool to see hinged scallop with different colors on each side. I have to get down to SWF again bc my bucket goal is to fill a glass fish bowl just with gorgeous scallops. ❤ Then travel to East coast for bowls of those candy-looking clams; name will come to me. Having a senior moment. Back to video...
Slipper shells are just a flatter type of critter. I have never seen a live one not attached to something else! They stack on top of each other for reproduction purposes with the males on top. If a female underneath stops giving off hormones or dies, the males can switch to female! They are quite neat creatures. The bittersweet clams are the ones that look like candy! 😃
I enjoyed watching this and hope to get to Sanibel island some day. When collecting these do you just put them in a bag or do you protect them somehow so they don’t get broken when they come in into contact with others in the bag?
Thank you for this wonderful time at the beach as we got covered in 15 inches of snow this morning ! It was a pure delight to walk on the beach with you and see the sunrise and cool pelican friend and all the wonderful shells ! 🐚🥰🏖️
I'm so thankful I don't have to shovel snow anymore! Thanks for coming to the beach with me 🐚
@@SWFBeachLife Amen, & amen to not having to shovel snow anymore! I moved down here to Fl. for that same exact reason, too darn cold up there! ;)
Holy Gaudy Nautica!! 🎉🎉 Nice find!! Woo hoo!! I think I was as shocked as you were! Just WOW!
I couldn't believe the size of that whopper! And it's not even close to the world record size! 😳
I LOVE this episode! I am so glad that you did some night shelling - the best kind of shelling experience, IMO ☺

That Gaudy is spectacular! I've never seen one in such good condition. Pays to be out there that early for sure!

Thank you for the Awesome beach walk ! Had to cancel this weekend 's trip but will try again !! Outstanding Gaudy !!
Another great shelling trip with great finds! We just went to Captiva in January but I'm ready to go back. Next year, hopefully I can stay on Sanibel again!
Another lovely beach walk! The time goes so fast….but it’s always fun!
Today was a new moon.
Beautiful sunrise!
Did u know alot of seashells glow in the UV light? U should take a UV light at night and see what glows..I watch a few other people who hunt for shells and they glow!!!
The fossilized shells do glow and striate bubbles glow pink!
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Just got home from Sanibel yesterday, I was lucky enough to find a spotted eagle ray mouth plate and a pearl oyster (still attached no pearl unfortunately)! Miss shelling already🐚
Wow what finds! I hope you had an amazing time while you were here!
Lovely 🐚 tour

Those chestnut turbans are gorgeous. Love them.
Thanks!
Thank you so much Janet!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Such a beautiful beach
Great finds thank you 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩💖💖💖💖
💜 Thank you for watching!
I am with you! I have to look for shells when I am on the beach! I will be down there soon!
As always, I totally enjoyed watching your day at the beach. Today was cloudy and cold in Southern California. Lol. Hopefully will be warming up. And love seeing those shells. Gets me more excited each time I see your videos for my trip to Florida. Can’t wait.
Cali coast has some neat shells too. :)
Not to worry - we got your heat here! If you're coming form anywhere between say April and November you will be hot!! 😃
Some of the tide pools have the COOLEST critters!
I love your videos, and it is wonderful.
You are so kind!
@@SWFBeachLife Thank you very much 🫠🇬🇷
Thank you for sharing ❤😊
the turban and the nutmeg (the one about 1/2 way thru the video are spectacular.
I miss shelling. 😞
@@SWFBeachLife LOL.... then I understand why you didn't know about it, my BEACH going friend. Thank you so much Shar Have a great week! ♥
Will you be shelling during the eclipse? Do you think that will affect what you find?
Unfortunately I am not in the total eclipse path so I'm not sure what I'll see. I don't think it would affect what I find but it's a great question!
Thank you Sharmon.
You are very welcome!
I loooooove Sunday nights!
I'm going to shelling tomorrow in Fernandina and man I wish we got some of the shells you do in your area. I never find tulips and I've only ever found one fighting conch, but I love how hefty they are. I think my favorites to find are sand dollars and big conch shells, but I do not come across those often either!
Well, I hope you find SOMETHING interesting. I have not been to Fernandina but I know that all beaches were not created equally!
@@SWFBeachLife thank you! Jutlat got home. I found a lion's paw and a sand dollar, but it was slim pickings this go round.
@@jessomint A lions paw is awesome!
@@SWFBeachLife 😁 I thought so too!
I've never been to Redington Beach - sorry! But just seeing where it is you should be able to find some of the shells I found on Sanibel 😃
It's nothing to what beaches she shells on, I live in Tampa bay myself not far from Redington beach.
Thank you
Thank you for visiting Sanibel where my heart is.
She has, those are found on the E. Coast.
😉
I have never seen a live pen shell but I would love to. I am fascinated with all the creatures that make these seashells. I have found a Lion's Paw on Captiva once. They can be found on the West Coast but they are really more of an East Coast shell.
Being there that early gives you a great chance of getting the best shells.
Exactly!
Sanibel does have the best scallops, though I never seem to find much else when I'm there (including this past Saturday)
Have to go b4 the sun comes up.
It has not been easy to find shells this winter, which is typically a better time to find them.
@@onlyjesussaves840 for the best shelling, sure. But everything shouldn't be gone - the water constantly replenishes what's on the beach
@@SWFBeachLife Tigertail has been awesome so far! Hubby snagged an amazing alphabet cone and pony sized horse conch the last few weekends.
@@maranathajacobs1907 Thank you! I am looking at my schedule and trying to figure out when I can visit again!
LOL, it looked completely different for me at 8am, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I like the 8am view WAY better than 5am one 😂
Have you ever found a live slipper shell, not attached to another shell?
I have never seen a live slipper snail not attached to something! The mature snails will stack on top of each other for reproduction purposes but I think it would be quite rare to find a living one not already attached to a shell.
Hi Sharmon, we are on our way to sanibel from way up north and wondered what’s the easiest beach to access on the island for shelling ?
Easiest is probably Lighthouse Beach. If you can swing it, try Gulfside City Park or Tarpon Bay.
@@SWFBeachLife thank you so much , and as usual , love your vids👍👍😃😃
@@SWFBeachLife thanks! Remarkable, did not know male slippers change to female if female dies. Bittersweets...that's the ones. ❤
Just wondering what you do with all the shells you collect?
I keep some, I sell some...I actually made a video about my collection since I get so many questions: th-cam.com/video/GZQVCKCJQZk/w-d-xo.html
We are in SC and the shelling is horrible. Virtually no whole shells of any kind. Even the common shells are in pieces.
Not all beaches were created equally. I never found shells in NJ either.
Where do you park to be within walking distance to the lighthouse?
You could park at the lighthouse but I parked at Gulfside City Park. I believe that's the closest public beach to the lighthouse.
I enjoyed watching this and hope to get to Sanibel island some day. When collecting these do you just put them in a bag or do you protect them somehow so they don’t get broken when they come in into contact with others in the bag?
She's mentioned b4, that she puts the delicate shells in a container so they don't get broken. :)
I carry another little container in my shell bag for delicates. I will show you in an upcoming video.
Any idea on how the animal chooses its colour?
It's genetics - just like us!
