Hi girls! I made it! So many pretty shells today, it's great to see so many cones and horse conchs, scallops, too! I'm so happy for you, Sharmon! Hearing you say that you love the sounds of shells in the waves made me think of the only time I ever made it to Sanibel, fifty years ago. I had finagled a ride down the coast from Pensacola and only was allowed five minutes before we had to head north again. I dumped all the contents from my army surplus rucksack and sprinted down to the water. The shells sounded like wind chimes as they rolled in the waves and I scooped great handfuls into my rucksack and carried it, dripping seawater, back to the car where my friend was waiting rather impatiently. I made so many pretty things from all those shells. So glad you were given some lovely shells not common to your area! I used to trade shells from many places as a child. My collection was prodigious by the time I gave it to my niece! Not going yo say how often I have kicked myself for doing that! Oh well, I have started a new collection and am happy with what I have been given or bought. One day, I hope, I can collect some shells of my own. Much love to all from Rebecca, the Lost Mermaid ❤
I wish I had been able to see Sanibel all those years ago. I can only imagine what it must have looked like - especially before the causeway was being built and you could only get to the island by ferry. I've seen photos and they just make me drool. I'm glad you were able to experience it - even for a very short while ❤️
What a lovely surprise my two favourite shelling friends doing a collab ! I am so happy to watch both of your videos and see all the wonderful treasures you will find ! 😎🐚🏖️❤️
I loved this presentation! Sharmon, it was SUCH a fun adventure getting to shell collect with you, and experiencing your vibe! Thank you also for showing me beautiful Keewaydin Island - fellow TH-camrs, unite! 💙🐚
You have given an old lady a reason to smile, to awww, to wow! This is super. I was a huge collector my self until 2017. I still have a few but lots you hold up I’ve never seen or ones I had found myself! Your beaches are incredible! Keep combing💞💞💞
That is awesome that you and Brian got together. I love his channel too. That was a fun shelling day. That alphabet was giant :). Thank you for taking us along. Have a great week. See you Sunday!! XOXO
Hey you got a Distorsio!! I love the orange Ribbed cantharus dressed up as a "beh-beh" horse conch. What a super fun day for you. Now it's time to go see what Bryan found. 🥰
It's so neat that you and Brian got together for this video. His channel was my introduction to the joy of shelling. And, besides yours, and others there in Florida, they now -- so far -- include delightful shelling adventurers in Australia and the British Isles. I so enjoy each and every experience with each one of you. Thank you so much, Sharmon. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I am humbled to be lumped in with some really fascinating and interesting people and channels. It's truly incredible what a little interest and research can yield!
Brian is a lovely man, got a beautiful dog too and he is so respectful of the environments he visits. - and he is lucky enough to visit many. So glad you two got to hook up. Wonderful day, wonderful shelling and that water…oh I am beyond green with envy. That really did look beautiful. Lovely video as always, glad you found such amazing shells. Hugs and stay safe xx.
Yes, I'm very jealous of all Bryan's travels too, and we talked about that as well. You know it's fun to talk to people about shells, but to talk shells, TH-cam, travel, etc. was really quite awesome. He's just as nice as he seems on TV 😂
One day last April the most amazing shell on Keewaydin was you favorite Sharmon, the Florida Fighting Conch. The variety of colors, the shine factor and the multitude just blew me away. I took the Keewaydin Shuttle last April hoping for some gorgeous shells. Honestly we found a better variety on Kice and South Marco. Once I realized the cones, olives and whelks were scarce I focused on the Florida Fighting Conch. I left with a huge bag of them in all shapes, colors and patterns. I am so happy I did, I have a beautiful tall cylinder vase in my NH window that reminds me of SWF. Thank you for your videos.
I love that you collected your shells yourself! I started with a fleeting interest, which quickly became a real passion to learn. You were smart to be "flexible" with your hunt. There are always shells at the beach - sometimes it just takes a different perspective to make it amazing ❤️🐚
I have lots of unbroken shells in my collection but I also collect fragments and broken ones. I do enjoy having pieces that allow me to enjoy the miraculous interior architecture of the shell. I honestly can’t imagine what your collection must be like by now!
What an AMAZING shelling day! I think the whole island was a honey hole today, you found so many beautiful shells just washing right up to you saying “take me, take me” !🐚🐚🐚 I like your new , I think, term “hugged by the beach” on the worn down shell.❤ thanks so much for a wonderful way to close out the weekend..stay safe and continue to have fun..❤❤❤
Love both of you. Bryan shells in Maine many times and would love to meet him as well. Great Alpha cone, and as always, love your beach sharing. Thanks lots❣️🦋❣️🐚🐚🐚🌊🥰
Im from the UK and I can say how jealous I am, what a beautiful place and the shells are to die for, stunning. I watch your channel with my 5 year old granddaughter and she loves shells. As our beaches are quite boring when it comes to shells , I go and buy shells like you're collecting now from the beach shop and sneakily drop them so she can find them...im sure she will catch on some day 😂
OoOhhh… never heard of Bryan!! Will have to check it out. I hope he holds his camera steady like Sharmon. Thank you for sharing a piece of your paradise explorations. ❤🎉❤
That alphabet cone was enormous!! Wow! I loved that part of the video where you were in the shallow water & there were all the ripples & reflections in the water; just mesmerizing. And as always, thank you for giving us the Beach Time part of your videos. And I'm continuing to support you by watching thru all the shorter ads, but I just cannot do those longgg ones. 🙃
Hi Sharmon! Such a treat that you and Brian shelled Keewaydin together. Well at the same time, lol. Love his videos too. His filming is amazing. You found some awesome shells this trip. Love those Alphabets. I really want to make it to Keewaydin this year. This was another lovely beach walk with you. Have a great week!!
Both your and Brian's videos are great! I can't wait for my first Keewaydin trip. That huge alphabet cone you found is AMAZING! I'm glad that you addressed over collecting when shelling in SWFL and showed that there are still plenty of shells for critters. I see so many hateful comments on people's posts on SWFL shelling groups/pages. It makes me sad for the OP who just wanted to share and celebrate their shell hauls! Can't wait to see if you do a video at Pass-a-Grille!
That cone is the biggest I've ever found! It went in my special "shell box." And I don't pay any attention to those silly negative comments from the miserable people who get their "news" from Facebook 🤣
Hi, you've got a great channel but the thing I like best is your soothing manner and voice, better than any tranquilizers! And I mean that in the best way possible. I think you remind me of my Mom when I was a kid, comforting talk and tone. And of course the shells are a plus..😮
How fun to go shelling with Brian, he definitely shells some very exciting locations. The water was absolutely gorgeous and those cones were all stunning. Thanks for a lovely visit to Keewaydin!
My family and I are planning a trip down your way in late August. I know Summer isn't the best time to shell, but this was when we could all get together. To say I'm excited is the understatement of the year! Always enjoy your videos!
What a great walk! That huge alphabet cone is so special. I do watch the SiS channel and it’ll be fun to compare the finds! As for the coral, you did touch on the reason why stony coral is illegal to collect-it’s difficult to tell if it was washed up or if someone chiseled it from a formation where it provides reef habitat. And because people are jerks sometimes, everyone has to be punished. I like that you mentioned ‘over-collecting’, which is a discussion some shell collectors are having. I personally believe what you do is the ethical way to collect and share. The shells typically found in beach stores or online often involve the killing of the animals and is just sad to me.
I LOVE looking at the shell shops but I never buy for that very reason. It makes me sad to think all those animals are killed for their shells. But I thank you so much for your kind words! 🙏🏼 And yes, with the coral I'm thinking it's like feathers - you can't tell if you found it or had to kill something for it so it's all illegal. Fine by me if it helps protect our reefs!!!
You do such a great job shelling in the water. I always find it a challenge but you can find some amazing things if you are game. Shame you cant take the coral.
Shelling in the water is my favorite! My brain loves trying to locate the shell and then using my hand-eye coordination to scoop it from the moving water. It's better than any video game I've ever tried!
yaaaaay shells 🐚 ♥️ yaaaaay ⛱️ Beach time as soon as I close my eyes too listen to beach time...away goes the weeks stress.....bless you Char!!!!! till next Sun.....yaaaaaay
How special is that that you and Brian both went out together! I love his channel as well! It would be quite the thing if you filmed together you! Going to go check his channel right now!! Happy sunday thank you for the beachy adventure!
What a fun shelling trip! Such lovely finds. I love all the cones and conchs. I loved it all! Seems like Keewaydin always has so many treasures. I really want to go there when we visit SW Florida. And guess what? It looks like we're going to get to this year!
Thank you for answering my question on your last upload about the Florida Fighting Conch species. You’re very kind. It is funny how nature does that. I wonder why some end up knobless? The animal didn’t want his home to be to pointy! 😂
Dear Sharmon, Yay, another rose Murex for the collection! I'm so happy for you! Love all the shells you've found. They are gorgeous! Can you tell me the name of Brians TH-cam channel? Unfortunately, typing is still very difficult for me, and I'm still in a lot of pain. So I'll keep it short. I hope you have a wonderful week! Sending you lots of love and hugs, xoxo ❤, Ilona
Yes of course! His channel is www.youtube.com/@solaceinshelling6552 I'm sorry to hear your recovery isn't going as quickly as I'd like ❤️ I hope at a minimum you can spend your time doing something that makes you happy 🥰
Why coral collecting from beach is illegal-> I wanted to know TOO and the BEST reason given since it’s worldwide illegal was authorities have no way of knowing if you collected dead or live coral! This was the best reasoning that made soo much sense! That is why you can buy coral from licensed sellers who can be regulated and hopefully well-trained to know living vs dead critters compared to the quantity of visitors that could go to beaches, snorkeling, diving , etc. Most people today are aware of their impact on flora and fauna and ecosystems, BUT it is a NEWER awareness that heavily competes with business and progress and people just trying to make a living for their families (of course that’s way beyond beaches and coral or US)
I liken it to the whole "not collecting feathers" for the same reason. You don't have a proper chain of custody so there is no way to know where it came from.
Sharmon, you're showing great restraint with all those FFC's!😂 At least to the 9 minute spot! OMG what a gorgeous AC!!! Funny you said that about the rose murex being a starter shell.y first one I still have is fossilized. Yep, the distorsio is a bucket list shell for me too. So cool you finally got to meet up with Brian! He's a nice guy. Thanks Sharmon! Going to the beach tomorrow. Hope there's something there!😊 xxoo
Thanks to your recommendation to use Hemingway shuttle service - I went to Keewaydin and found a Scotch Bonnet by digging in the high wrack line by the southern end of the island! Sometimes you have to slow down.... and dig it!!
Great shelling video (as usual). I also follow Brian and you two are my favorites. Can’t wait to see his video!!! I really think you should do longer videos, I’m always so sad when they are over so quickly! I hope to see you on a beach some day.
Sharmon, thank you for teaching me so much about shelling. I recently retired and made reservations to go shelling with Ali in the 10K islands! May 1st! Please come!! Brian too 🩵🦋🏝️
Hi , I see you always at the beach collecting shells. I have the same hobby, just last week I was at Jensen Beach Florida and had the opportunity to collect some shells. But your shells are very fascinating. Please give us an idea to where I can go to collect shells like yours. My name is Alan, looking forward on sunday for your new video.
Sharmon is there a book that you particularly recommend for shell identification? And pretty pictures 😁 I love your commentary and how well you know your subject! ❤ Its such a pleasurable escape watching you. Greetings from land bound Windsor in England
If I were to tell people to purchase one book to ID their Florida shells, it would be this one: amzn.to/3aqkmO0 There are other books by the same authors for other state shells, but for Florida, this book has been like a "bible" for me! What I didn't know about identifying shells is that not all shells live all over the world. There are certain areas that certain species will live, so it's important to know where your shell came from when you are trying to ID it. I have loved this journey learning about the beach, the animals and especially the seashells!
Ok so im new to Florida and i see this as a new hobby But i do have to say being new don’t know if im gunna find such beautiful shells like you do! Do you any suggestions to a new bee?
I have done private shelling tours from Marco to the 10K Islands, but have never done the Hemingway Shuttle. I'm going to Marco for work in June and I think it's time I finally give it a try! Do you have the best luck shelling down the left or right side of the beach? I'm kinda bummed we're going in the summer when shelling isn't the best, but I think I'll still give it a try!
The shuttle will drop you off on the end of the island, and I tend to go for the gulf facing portion of the island. I do not think you'll be disappointed!!
I love your videos and have been a subscriber for years now. You know, less talk is better. It’s hard to enjoy the shelling and the beauty and serenity of the beach and ocean when you’re talking non stop. Put text o the screen. But let us enjoy the virtual shelling to the real sounds. Thank you.
I offer all these walks without narration over at my other channel! You can see all the beauty and you don't have to listen to voice at all if you don't want to 😃 www.youtube.com/@swfbeachlifestuff
Thank you! I subscribed and I LOVE these videos! Also, pretty cool you met up with Brian from Solace in Shelling. I’ve been a subscriber for years and never knew his name until you said it lol
I love your videos so much! Thank you for creating them amd sharing tips! Question - are you originally from New York? I'm curious because I am, and your accent sounds so familiar to me!
I gasped when I saw you pick up those big cone shells! Here in Australia, we are all warned from childhood by our dads yelling at us, NEVER to pick up cone shells, as they have a harpoon inside their shell, that can shoot out - up to a metre long - and sting you very painfully - sometimes they can even kill you with their sting! Are your cone shells stingless in America? Lucky you, if they are! Ours look very similar to yours. They are beautiful shells, but even if they are empty here in Oz, often the lethal blue ringed octopus will be hiding inside - it's a tiny octopus that can kill you within 10 minutes if you are bitten - its bite is 10 times more poisonous than cyanide! My Dad always told me - this is Australia, always watch your back and carry a big stick, because something's trying to bite you on the bum! I was intrigued to hear that part of that beach you were combing, was privately owned. Australians do not tolerate private beaches, no matter how wealthy the landowner is - the beach is free and belongs to every citizen, so I heartily disapprove of private beaches. It's like claiming you own a patch of the sky!
Here in the states you can't own any of the beach that gets wet by the tide, so those people own beach front property, but they can't stop people from walking along the beach. I agree - no beaches should be private! There are some areas that I have a really hard time accessing the beach and have to walk a few miles to get to the "good" spots. 🤷♀️ And your country has all the dangerous critters! Our cones do sting, but the poison is more like a bee sting - nothing like your cones or that deadly octopus. If I were to ever beachcomb in Australia I would wear gloves for sure! That being said, your country has some GORGEOUS shells!
collab of the century
It was so fun!
Hi girls!
His channel is www.youtube.com/@solaceinshelling6552
I'm sorry to hear your recovery isn't going as quickly as I'd like ❤️ I hope at a minimum you can spend your time doing something that makes you happy 🥰
Love that on this day you chose to share your day with a fellow shell guide and you tuber😊
Hello. Good Evening 🐚🐚Happy Shelling Sunday 🐚🐚
2 of my favorite shelters! Eeekkk!
Very awesome!
The 5 months of chicago winter will end soon . Florida looks like a nice place to visit.
Great shelling.
I hope you find something out there G! I told Bryan he met you up at HI - it's a small shelling world! ❤️
Yay.....my favorite two people !! ❤❤❤❤❤
Luv'n this !
Lovely collection adventure
Thank you 🤗
I appreciate YOU, Shar. Thanks for always sharing educational and uplifting videos. See you next Sunday, Beautiful Beach Friend. ❤🏖
I hope you have a great week!!!
@@SWFBeachLife You do the same Sweetie. See you soon. ❤🏖
Thanks to your recommendation to use Hemingway shuttle service - I went to Keewaydin and found a Scotch Bonnet by digging in the high wrack line by the southern end of the island! Sometimes you have to slow down.... and dig it!!
You are so right! That water is always calling me though 😂
Great shelling video (as usual). I also follow Brian and you two are my favorites. Can’t wait to see his video!!! I really think you should do longer videos, I’m always so sad when they are over so quickly! I hope to see you on a beach some day.
Thanks for such a lovely comment Nancy! I agree - Bryan makes beautiful videos and I love seeing what he finds on his adventures too 😃
I love shells and I love collecting the 🐚🐚
I love collaborations! I enjoyed watching both your channels! ❤
Thanks so much 😊
My husband bought the backpack from last weeks video. He can’t wait to try it out on our shelling tour in June
I bought it because my previous waterproof backpack was really uncomfortable - I hope it's works as good for you as it does for me!
Sharmon, thank you for teaching me so much about shelling. I recently retired and made reservations to go shelling with Ali in the 10K islands! May 1st! Please come!! Brian too 🩵🦋🏝️
Congratulations on your retirement and you're going to love Ali - she's such a sweetheart!
Keywadin was good to me too. And the Hemingway Shuttle people are the best!
They are so good to their guests!
HEY YALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL...
BOTH!!
Brian has great finds.
I have watched your videos for 24 hrs
Ooops kinda obsessed 😁
LOL! By now you should have an idea where the good shells are and when to go!
ahhhhh I am so bummed you didn't keep that huge shark eye, broken or not I LOVE it!!
If only it hadn't been broken 😩
Thank you
Never never such a thing as OVER COLLECTING, you go girl😊🎉❤
Hi , I see you always at the beach collecting shells. I have the same hobby, just last week I was at Jensen Beach Florida and had the opportunity to collect some shells. But your shells are very fascinating. Please give us an idea to where I can go to collect shells like yours. My name is Alan, looking forward on sunday for your new video.
Hi Alan - I usually give the location of where I am in all my videos so you can pick and choose where you would like to go yourself!
Sharmon is there a book that you particularly recommend for shell identification? And pretty pictures 😁 I love your commentary and how well you know your subject! ❤ Its such a pleasurable escape watching you. Greetings from land bound Windsor in England
If I were to tell people to purchase one book to ID their Florida shells, it would be this one:
amzn.to/3aqkmO0
There are other books by the same authors for other state shells, but for Florida, this book has been like a "bible" for me!
What I didn't know about identifying shells is that not all shells live all over the world. There are certain areas that certain species will live, so it's important to know where your shell came from when you are trying to ID it. I have loved this journey learning about the beach, the animals and especially the seashells!
Luv it
Ok so im new to Florida and i see this as a new hobby
But i do have to say being new don’t know if im gunna find such beautiful shells like you do!
Do you any suggestions to a new bee?
Hi , I love your videos and I love 🐚
🙏🏼
I have done private shelling tours from Marco to the 10K Islands, but have never done the Hemingway Shuttle. I'm going to Marco for work in June and I think it's time I finally give it a try! Do you have the best luck shelling down the left or right side of the beach? I'm kinda bummed we're going in the summer when shelling isn't the best, but I think I'll still give it a try!
The shuttle will drop you off on the end of the island, and I tend to go for the gulf facing portion of the island. I do not think you'll be disappointed!!
@@SWFBeachLife thank you!!!
Love the cones, but those butterscotch fighting conch…
Right?!!!! 🥰
Interesting about the coral. I didn’t know and have a couple pieces. 😬
I know! I JUST found this out too 😳 I think most of us beachcombers are surprised!
Great video again! Looks like that forgotten sailboat doesn’t have any kind of name on it…😢
I'm kind of surprised it's still there. Most of the other "beached" boats get removed but that boat has been there a few years at this point. 🤷♀️
You can see all the beauty and you don't have to listen to voice at all if you don't want to 😃

Thank you! I subscribed and I LOVE these videos! Also, pretty cool you met up with Brian from Solace in Shelling. I’ve been a subscriber for years and never knew his name until you said it lol
Why is it illegal to collect dead coral?
ETA: Got to the part where you don't know why either. 😂
I follow Brian also. ❤
I love your videos so much! Thank you for creating them amd sharing tips! Question - are you originally from New York? I'm curious because I am, and your accent sounds so familiar to me!
I moved here from Bergen County New Jersey and attended college at Montclair University. I try to not talk like I'm from Joisey 😂
@@SWFBeachLife oh wow! Awesome! But LOL I'm somewhat on point with my accents 😂
@@amandalepelstat9442 Nailed it 😃
I gasped when I saw you pick up those big cone shells!
And your country has all the dangerous critters! Our cones do sting, but the poison is more like a bee sting - nothing like your cones or that deadly octopus. If I were to ever beachcomb in Australia I would wear gloves for sure! That being said, your country has some GORGEOUS shells!
It's the USS Minnow 😅
I'm also curious why it is illegal to collect deceased coral from the beach. I'm afraid I've taken some in the past (over a year ago).
I suspect we all have because we didn't know! It's likely a law to protect our reefs, but I'm going to see if I can find out.
