7:15 fun fact: that, and "And that must've been a shock for you." was Angelina Jolies favorite line in the entire trilogy. Apparently she had to take about 15 minutes to calm down after she recorded it, because she couldn't stop laughing.
@@hdudhehdhd2222 Her daughter voices the baby girl panda in the third movie! The one who says "Stripy Baby!" in reference to Tigress. I always thought that was SOOOO cute! 🥰
All of the franchise I think this is the most powerful one, because of Po's redemption arc and his story outline really improves, like his origin of himself and his greatest purpose of his life. It is also good because of the villain, not just any vaillain but he's not the kind of ones that has a sad back story, he's just basically evil and wants power, that he chose that path of his at the end.
I wouldn't really agree that he's just simply evil and hungry for power and stuff like that but ok( you know who's actually just wants power and that's basically it? Kai!)
Shen wasn't just evil. Just like Tai Lung, he was raised and told he would be someone, and then for him not to have what was once promised to him. Before he went and killed a lot of the pandas he was supposed to be the ruler after his parents. But when he was banished he believed the throne was taken from him. And so all he thought he could do was take it back. He became focused on taking and gaining power and taking back what believed was his destiny. Shen chose his path because he knew he had already gone to far, had he surrendered he would have been imprisoned for life and would have to live in shame, loneliness and regret. He would rather go out fighting than rotting in a jail cell. And he accepts his death at the end as well. Plus we see unlike Tai Lung who injured Shifu, Shen doesn't harm the Soothsayer at all. Knowing that she predicted and might even help in his defeat. And he did was keep her with him. Shen was not a purely evil villain, he just his genocide of the pandas as a way of self defense, believing one of them was predicted to kill him, and at the time that could also have been interpreted as the entire peacock family.
@@two4328 Shen was fleshed out, but he very clearly chose the evil path intentionally. He had many chances to avoid the outcome but he fulfilled the self-fulfilling prophecy by simply refusing to stop. His experimentation with fireworks into becoming weapons arguably for conquest started the whole prophecy, which is furthered by how his first reaction to stopping it was genociding all the pandas. He said his parents hated him when they just couldn't let his actions slide and died soon after from heartbreak. His mocking and attempts to destroy Po helped guide Po to finding peace. And him keeping the soothsayer alive could also be due to him wanting to undermine her fortunate in front of her as well. He even had her read the soothsaying once in the movie and was upset at it not changing, doing his best to stomp on it. I would definitely say that he didn't have to be evil but he actively kept choosing to go down his dark path and thus lead himself to his downfall.
The peacock showing care to the seer, accepting death after he became the creature of black and white to destroy himself, it made the villain such a compelling guy The whole backstory of Po is very sad and I just love this movie’s message, characters, and comedy. Wonderful film
Kinda feel bad for Shen, he basically damned himself to the very end and made all the wrong choices out of fear and his pride to make his parents proud even when they died after forcing him away, he still felt like he needed achievement. Sparing the Goat when he had no use for her was a hint of the respect he had for her, even though she was against him. Even the fortune foretold him destroying himself by continuing down his path, which led to his downfall at his own weapons and hand mistaking the Pandas for his own destruction.
Man, i love Shen so much. He was already a twisted kid who's experimenting on gunpowders, but it could've been helped if the parents guided him on how to use it right tho instead of getting scared of him. I definitely can understand why he felt why they hated him, though it was most likely just misunderstandings between them due to less communication. During the talk between him and the soothsayer, you can see he was slightly moved by "they loved you so much that sending u away killed them." Even if he wanted to stop, where can he go now?? It's either gonna be death row or prison for life due to the crimes he committed aka genocide attempt to pandas and taking over China. He probably concluded at the end that the peace he wanted might only be death, and not a death that humiliates him to the crowd. He killed himself. Man, that's dark.
@@souhiyori8032 I honestly disagree with the parents part. His parents consulting the soothsayer was out of concern for him since they were uncertain about what him experimenting would mean and do. Shen just happened to overhear it and wound up causing genocide. If anything, I don't really think much of an option was given. Shen pretty much acted on the spot. And I really don't think he wanted to stop at all. He pretty much did everything but stop and realize the truth, even if it was twisting how others saw him and why his actions were reacted to as they were. And him killing himself I don't think was intentional. He was aiming for Po each of those strikes to kill. I do think agree at the end he did accept his fate when it fell on him.
The reason Shen is so unique is that creators never tried to justify Shen's action by giving him a pitiful backstory unlike many villains out there including Tai Lung. Shen like Loki and Purple (the main antagonist in Wandavision so I wouldn't want to reveal name since you're still watching the show) just gave into his bad side. He was just experimenting with the fireworks and his parents knowing what it could cause just let fear take control by looking for them through fortune-telling instead of guiding him, same thing happened for Shen since the fear of downfall made him commit genocide. Sending him away not only made Shen determined and make a choice but it also killed the parents through heartbreak. Shen really manipulated himself into thinking his parents never loved him, so that there's no going back. The scene with him and Po actually gives quite hint of that when he said "your parents never loved you" which is Shen not only trying to manipulate Po but also himself. Thing about first 2 Kung Fu Panda movies is how well Po contrast with the villains but it's only the choice he makes that makes him a Dragon Warrior. Also the 3 movies shows 3 sides of a person: 1. Body (Po came to accept not to be ashamed of how he looks be a hurdles path), Tai Lung having perfect warrior/machine body. 2. Mind (Po came to accept whether good or bad but past is past so make peace with it and make better choices in future), Shen is really witty and intelligent. 3. Soul (No comment on this one) For others canon scene may have been best scene but for me all transitions of past in inner peace scene are amazing and especially Po remembering Mr Ping (his adopted father) as his best memory was heart touching.
out of the three movies Shen is always a fav because his revenge was planned out for such a long time and i liked how he accepted in the end with his shoulders dropping and his eyes closing he truly accepted that he was defeated and died in peace
imo shen is the best villain in the trilogy. not only bc of his design, voice acting (props to gary oldman), and how terrifying he is but also because he's the villain with a personal connection to po. its just 👌🏼👌🏼
Dude, Shen’s parents never hated him, they were horrified by what he had become after almost killing off the Pandas. They banished him but in doing so, it broke their heart. Which is why they past away, being heart broken. Their only sin was loving him so much that very much like Shifu, they were to blinded and choose to be ignorant on what their son was becoming until it was too late.
The first movie has a nostalgia and charm to it that won’t ever be perfectly replicated, but this movie is so powerful, emotional, and a perfect combination of good original content and callback fan service. 11/10 movie on my personal ranking system, where 12/10 is the highest score of any movie I’ve seen yet.

Consulting the soothsayer about what would happen if he did isn't "ignoring" it. Shen just overheard it and killed the pandas, which by that time it had gone too far. They had to send him away for some kind of punishment if executing him wasn't going to happen, which yeah hurt them so much it killed them. I really don't think the parents just turned a blind eye to him going evil, just never got the time actually do something since Shen acted while they were growing to understand what Shen's path meant.
