I don't think people realize that a big aspect of older skin is how much it stretches. It's not just a change in texture. Your skin texture is affected by more than just age. It can change because of the hardness of the water in your home or dry vs humid climates. I really wish more people would research skin before they tell people they have mature skin in their 30s
She just said that her skin is old-ER, not old or mature. She' s just spitting facts: what worked perfectly (especially complexion products) five-ten years ago, doesn' t work anymore in your late 30’ s and sharing with us the gem she has found. We are all older every single day we keep on being alive.
6:57 I’m black so I don’t understand the obsession with tanning. However I believe all skin tones are beautiful whether you’re the deepest of the deep or palest of the pale your skin is beautiful. I would tell a tanner and bleacher the same advice you’re already gorgeous and you don’t need to adjust anything.
I'm very fair skinned without a tan and have stopped tanning the past few years for health reasons. People are constantly pointing out how I should start tanning again because I don't look as attractive without one. It's very odd how invested people get about other people's skin lol. I do think that there is an overall change though in accepting our natural skin tones, so hopefully it will continue to trend positively in the coming years!
@@리선미-s5rit's quite ridiculous as someone who's knowledgeable about the basic biology around tanning. tanning is the physical representation of how ultraviolet rays from the sun damage your skin, the entire reason your skin develops a tan is because the cells (melanocytes) are signaled that the skin is being damaged, so they start producing melanin to try and prevent further damage. they don't start doing it willy nilly on their own, they're doing it because there's damage that is being detected and their biological purpose is to produce melanin to try and mitigate further harm.

As a super pale girlie myself, I don't really think that blush shade is the best choice. I agree with Robert that the wrong shade can appear like a bruise.
I have that color tone on my face naturally because of sun damage when I was a really young kid and I have banana pancakes sensitive skin so the sun impacts me more than most. The way she used it looks like skin damage. You can't really tell in my pfp because I color corrected but essentially she put on too much of that color. If she were to apply it very delicately, you can get really stunning looks as a yt person with that color. You just have to be uber careful because it's too much of a contrast from light skin.
Honestly if she didn't put it on her chin and forehead i could see it looking nice to be honest, I think it's placement / amount that made it look odd. With rare beauty I would not put this much blush even if it was a shade that was more suitable for my pale skin
I'm 41 and yeah I have more mature skin than a 20 year old but I wouldn't call it old lady skin, lol. It's just different. There's so many things that can play a part in how your skin looks beyond just how many years you've existed on the earth.

I'm in my 60's, and have taken very good care of my skin. People comment on my nice skin still, and it is nice for my age. But I have only considered my skin "mature" or "older" in the last 4 or 5 years. It's a matter of getting much drier, and dealing with some crepey skin around your eyes, and things like that. I wish I had my 37-year-old skin back! Believe me, your skin is still young in your 30's, don't rush it :)
I'm 52, and my skin is definitely "older skin", due to lifestyle choices and addiction. I wear foundation all the time and look perfectly fine. It's just a matter of finding the right one for you, and using less , ( and powder is a BIG no no,)! At the end of the day, it's up to the individual. Also, 37 definitely isn't older skin!
If I may ask, how did your skin change, if at all, during menopause? Asking everyone who's going through it. I always looked 18-20 years younger, I avoid the sun, super pale. During perimenopause I got drier skin so adjusted my routine. 6 months after my last period, OOF 😢 My eyelids are so thin, the mattest shadow creates creases. Cream anything creates wrinkles that weren't there! Powder is definitely out. I just do my eyebrows well, and use a Korean lip stain from the center of my lips. A little Nars blush on outer cheeks and the center of my eyelids, blended like crazy. A DOT of clear gloss on my lips and in the center of each eyelid. Even then the gloss can create wrinkles, depends on the brand.
not just that, a pronounced, high cupid’s bow gives my lips height and more fullness. I’d rather do that than erase it and make my top lip a straight line like a sausage
I have such a deep one, the middle of my top lip is almost invisible when I close my lips. I would never connect the top of my two points, but I probably wouldn't follow my natural lip line either, if I were lining my lips and using a dark lip color (which I almost never do).
Same! Mine is very pronounced and my lips are tall and pointy lol and this and any hack meant to create a line there looks ridiculous on me. Like I’m trying to create a 30s starlet look. I just can’t do it and it’s so annoying when TikTok artists all act like everyone should be doing this. It looks bad on most people.
Mine is very pointy and a strong M shape. I try and round mine as much as possible. I sometimes cover it but I just prefer the way that it looks on me 😊
Sometimes it's also bc they want to make their lips appear a lot bigger, but following their natural cupids bow make it looks harsh, while doing a softer kinda blur lip and going above their cupids bow looks more natural
@@LP-ct9nk Something very popular in my area is a procedure with Botox called the "Russian Lip Flip" which involves (allegedly) making your upper lip look bigger by flipping out some of the inside of your upper lip. To me, it looks ghastly but it's popular just the same. As I age, my lips are thinning and I'm just going along for the ride.
Yeah, not having an embossed cupid's bow/lip line is so common now because of fillers. I really prefer the look of a defined ridge, but that's just personal taste.

While I completely believe that any skin tone/eye colour/ depth of colouration can make any colour work if you want to, I also believe there's a certain type of person who cannot bear any suggestion that something may not be specifically aimed at them. As a pale as a ghost girl - I adore deep, cranberry toned blushes! But it's all about styling it imo. I have grunge aesthetic with goth vibes, so when I do makeup, I want it to look unnatural, often making me look more tired and "sick", so it fits well. However - if I wanted to go for "makeup no makeup" look, then yeah, this tone of blush just doesn't make sense (on a pale skin) lol Just know what you going for and what fits your vibe. Gotta know your makeup theory to break it
Same. I love deep, pigmented blushes. Some of my favorites are deep mauve shades and maroon - it’s all about application/blending. I get where people are coming from that certain shades compliment certain tones better, but that’s where the buck stops: complimenting ≠ the only shades one should ever wear, and man is it depressing to hear how others are telling people they can’t wear X/Y/Z because they don’t have this or that skin tone. Sucks the joy out of makeup as a whole when people start ragging on others for a style they enjoy wearing.

Same here! I use purple for everyday blush and wine\dusty red for more extravagant looks. Pink looks somewhat unnatural on me but it can be a vibe too sometimes. Makeup is for fun, not for conformism!

Same! I was so embarrassed growing up because I'm so pale and a little translucent because of a genetic disorder, so my veins really show. But now I think of myself as a blue and pale zebra and embrace it. I also agree that all skin tones are gorgeous.

Agreed! I hated my skin tone when I was younger. I was teased for being so pale. People truly didn’t understand that I cannot tan. My skin is not capable of it. I’m fine with my skin tone now and I wear sunblock religiously so it looks like I don’t leave the house but I swear that I do. I also joke that I glow underwater. 😂

I'm almost 60 and have great skin thanks to my mom. It's always a bit insulting to hear people talk about older skin or mature skin. I wish our society would just embrace our differences instead of pointing them out.
I'm a bridal makeup artist and trust me, wome hoping bridesmaids sit in my chair with terribly dry and flakes skin. Then I also have mothers of the bride and groom who have excellent, smooth and moisturized skin! We artists are actually on a campaign to end the term mature skin for that reason
I mean. Its not offensive. Its relevant to how you do makeup and the products you should use because your skins texture, elasticity, moisture rention etc is different than a 20something.... glad YOU have great skin so idk why its even the least bit insulting to you if it doesnt apply.... but for many of us, we arent as blessed to have perfect baby skin and have had to change our approach to makeup to accommodate the realities of aging.....

I really appreciate that you call out how people putting the label of old/mature skin on people in their 30's and pointing out how ridiculous it is. It means so much to me to see that you don't tolerate that nonsense and that you explain that different skin types and other factors play a role in what can be going on. I hate it so much to see all this "old" label being shoved on me now that I'm in my early 30's especially since I already have so much anxiety around it since all the messaging growing up in media for young girls was that turning 30 meant your life was over. And in that for me personally I'm an adult survivor of childhood @buse and neglect so I know that the stress and trauma has done damage and it is only recently that I've started be able to get access to skin care and be able to that it all just really further adds to this anxiety and stress about my age and how I look. I wish the messaging in regards to skin care across the board could just be about finding what your specific skin needs are and not "mature" vs "old" "young" etc (with certain exceptions because certain formulations/products are not meant to be used by people under certain ages because it can do damage to their skin since they are still growing as I understand.)

The “older skin” video, which seems like an ad for a foundation to me, reminded me of how helpful Geek Out Of Waters page is (honestly don’t know how I found her, might have been you but if not check her out!) She reviews and tests foundations in super consistent ways and led me to a foundation i would have never tried otherwise but is amazing for my dry-ish mature-ish skin
Yes!! I love her reviews because we get to see the actual skin up close and how it performs. It’s so helpful. I’m only 38 but I do have acne, textured skin. And we wear the same color of foundations so that’s helpful too.

I have a lot of your same issues and I bought so many foundations. I have cystic acne scars from lupus. I had perfect skin. I had someone tell me to try Nars and it has saved my life. I tried Charlotte tillbury and took that crap back. I have probably a good 500 bucks in foundation. Nars covers and I'm 46. I even have a line down my forehead from hitting it.

People in their late 20 s believing they need mature skin products, I have met them. The old, from early 2000s, olay ads and then they showed how the same model has been using it for 15 years of adverts and how amazing her skin looked after 15 years of olay at 37!!!!! Of course her skin looked great, she's a 37 yo model! It's such a shame how mostly women are targeted about how amazingly old they are getting when in reality their brains have barely stopped developing. We are made to feel over the hill and used up once we are barely a third of the way through an average life time. Let us enjoy what we have while we have it!
As a person with pale skin tone, we are blessed with the possibility of using any colour we wish because we are, quite literally, a white paper and able to rock any colour. That said, sometimes it's necessary to be quite conservative and delicate with how you wish to apply colours, because they can look too much very easily.
I struggle with covering up my lupus mylar rash enough so that I feel good about my makeup, and I have mixed feelings on people purposely doing their makeup in a way that looks like a sign of illness whether they realize it or not. Oh art 🤷♀️😮💨

I’m in my early fifties and my breakouts are only just starting to calm down. I actually have good skin days most of the week, now! I don’t know if it’s because of my age, or that I’ve finally found a skincare routine that works for me (maybe both). I was using makeup for most of my “youth” like a mask to cover-up my imperfections. Now that I’m older (with older skin, LoL) I wear much less makeup - no foundation whatsoever just powder. I don’t understand ANY of the GRWM posts; these are (mostly) beautiful women who don’t need to disguise their skin! They just seem like victims of the makeup industry. As someone once said, “the math ain’t mathin’ !” 😅
Great video Robert! I worked for a company that required all of the women had to have makeup on. When I got very sick, with a rare autoimmune disorder. Since then I’ve only worn makeup a few times and I feel like a teenager figuring out what’s good for me what isn’t. Your videos are so great and I’ve learned a lot. You’re a gem Robert! The young lady with the blush would have been perfectly fine if she did one dot on each cheek, blended and took what’s left on the brush for a flush on the ridge of the nose, forehead, and chin. As a darker skinned person , I wouldn’t even use this much blush of any shade.
I use darker maroon blush, now I am not as light in color as the girl in the video. I have a grandmother that is full blooded Native American. I think those darker blushes look amazing on me.

I am so tired of the cupids bow trend because every time I try it, it looks horrendous. I have a defined cupids bow and it looks way better when I just line my lips the shape they are. For so long I tried lining my lips in that way in the video, and felt like I just had the ugliest lip shape ever because it never worked.

I'm in my 60's, and have taken very good care of my skin. People comment on my nice skin still, and it is nice for my age. But I have only considered my skin "mature" or "older" in the last 4 or 5 years. It's a matter of getting much drier, and dealing with some crepey skin around your eyes, and things like that. I wish I had my 37-year-old skin back! Believe me, your skin is still young in your 30's, don't rush it :)
I'm 52, and my skin is definitely "older skin", due to lifestyle choices and addiction. I wear foundation all the time and look perfectly fine. It's just a matter of finding the right one for you, and using less , ( and powder is a BIG no no,)!
At the end of the day, it's up to the individual. Also, 37 definitely isn't older skin!

I always looked 18-20 years younger, I avoid the sun, super pale. During perimenopause I got drier skin so adjusted my routine. 6 months after my last period, OOF 😢 My eyelids are so thin, the mattest shadow creates creases. Cream anything creates wrinkles that weren't there! Powder is definitely out. I just do my eyebrows well, and use a Korean lip stain from the center of my lips. A little Nars blush on outer cheeks and the center of my eyelids, blended like crazy. A DOT of clear gloss on my lips and in the center of each eyelid. Even then the gloss can create wrinkles, depends on the brand.

I have such a deep one, the middle of my top lip is almost invisible when I close my lips. I would never connect the top of my two points, but I probably wouldn't follow my natural lip line either, if I were lining my lips and using a dark lip color (which I almost never do).
Same! Mine is very pronounced and my lips are tall and pointy lol and this and any hack meant to create a line there looks ridiculous on me. Like I’m trying to create a 30s starlet look. I just can’t do it and it’s so annoying when TikTok artists all act like everyone should be doing this. It looks bad on most people.

Sometimes it's also bc they want to make their lips appear a lot bigger, but following their natural cupids bow make it looks harsh, while doing a softer kinda blur lip and going above their cupids bow looks more natural

@@LP-ct9nk Something very popular in my area is a procedure with Botox called the "Russian Lip Flip" which involves (allegedly) making your upper lip look bigger by flipping out some of the inside of your upper lip. To me, it looks ghastly but it's popular just the same. As I age, my lips are thinning and I'm just going along for the ride.
Yeah, not having an embossed cupid's bow/lip line is so common now because of fillers. I really prefer the look of a defined ridge, but that's just personal taste.

And if they want to make their point by looking like they've been caught in the desert for 3 days, they are certainly entitled to do that.

As a pale as a ghost girl - I adore deep, cranberry toned blushes! But it's all about styling it imo. I have grunge aesthetic with goth vibes, so when I do makeup, I want it to look unnatural, often making me look more tired and "sick", so it fits well.
However - if I wanted to go for "makeup no makeup" look, then yeah, this tone of blush just doesn't make sense (on a pale skin) lol

Same. I love deep, pigmented blushes. Some of my favorites are deep mauve shades and maroon - it’s all about application/blending.
I get where people are coming from that certain shades compliment certain tones better, but that’s where the buck stops: complimenting ≠ the only shades one should ever wear, and man is it depressing to hear how others are telling people they can’t wear X/Y/Z because they don’t have this or that skin tone. Sucks the joy out of makeup as a whole when people start ragging on others for a style they enjoy wearing.

Agreed! I hated my skin tone when I was younger. I was teased for being so pale. People truly didn’t understand that I cannot tan. My skin is not capable of it. I’m fine with my skin tone now and I wear sunblock religiously so it looks like I don’t leave the house but I swear that I do. I also joke that I glow underwater. 😂

I'm a bridal makeup artist and trust me, wome hoping bridesmaids sit in my chair with terribly dry and flakes skin. Then I also have mothers of the bride and groom who have excellent, smooth and moisturized skin! We artists are actually on a campaign to end the term mature skin for that reason

Its relevant to how you do makeup and the products you should use because your skins texture, elasticity, moisture rention etc is different than a 20something.... glad YOU have great skin so idk why its even the least bit insulting to you if it doesnt apply.... but for many of us, we arent as blessed to have perfect baby skin and have had to change our approach to makeup to accommodate the realities of aging.....

I really appreciate that you call out how people putting the label of old/mature skin on people in their 30's and pointing out how ridiculous it is. It means so much to me to see that you don't tolerate that nonsense and that you explain that different skin types and other factors play a role in what can be going on.
I hate it so much to see all this "old" label being shoved on me now that I'm in my early 30's especially since I already have so much anxiety around it since all the messaging growing up in media for young girls was that turning 30 meant your life was over.
And in that for me personally I'm an adult survivor of childhood @buse and neglect so I know that the stress and trauma has done damage and it is only recently that I've started be able to get access to skin care and be able to that it all just really further adds to this anxiety and stress about my age and how I look.
I wish the messaging in regards to skin care across the board could just be about finding what your specific skin needs are and not "mature" vs "old" "young" etc (with certain exceptions because certain formulations/products are not meant to be used by people under certain ages because it can do damage to their skin since they are still growing as I understand.)

The “older skin” video, which seems like an ad for a foundation to me, reminded me of how helpful Geek Out Of Waters page is (honestly don’t know how I found her, might have been you but if not check her out!) She reviews and tests foundations in super consistent ways and led me to a foundation i would have never tried otherwise but is amazing for my dry-ish mature-ish skin
Yes!! I love her reviews because we get to see the actual skin up close and how it performs. It’s so helpful. I’m only 38 but I do have acne, textured skin. And we wear the same color of foundations so that’s helpful too.

I have a lot of your same issues and I bought so many foundations. I have cystic acne scars from lupus. I had perfect skin. I had someone tell me to try Nars and it has saved my life. I tried Charlotte tillbury and took that crap back. I have probably a good 500 bucks in foundation. Nars covers and I'm 46. I even have a line down my forehead from hitting it.

The old, from early 2000s, olay ads and then they showed how the same model has been using it for 15 years of adverts and how amazing her skin looked after 15 years of olay at 37!!!!! Of course her skin looked great, she's a 37 yo model!
It's such a shame how mostly women are targeted about how amazingly old they are getting when in reality their brains have barely stopped developing. We are made to feel over the hill and used up once we are barely a third of the way through an average life time.

As a person with pale skin tone, we are blessed with the possibility of using any colour we wish because we are, quite literally, a white paper and able to rock any colour. That said, sometimes it's necessary to be quite conservative and delicate with how you wish to apply colours, because they can look too much very easily.

I have pink skin and she just gave herself a sunburn with blush. She did the exact opposite of what I try to do every day, get rid of the redness.
I struggle with covering up my lupus mylar rash enough so that I feel good about my makeup, and I have mixed feelings on people purposely doing their makeup in a way that looks like a sign of illness whether they realize it or not. Oh art 🤷♀️😮💨

I’m in my early fifties and my breakouts are only just starting to calm down. I actually have good skin days most of the week, now! I don’t know if it’s because of my age, or that I’ve finally found a skincare routine that works for me (maybe both). I was using makeup for most of my “youth” like a mask to cover-up my imperfections. Now that I’m older (with older skin, LoL) I wear much less makeup - no foundation whatsoever just powder. I don’t understand ANY of the GRWM posts; these are (mostly) beautiful women who don’t need to disguise their skin! They just seem like victims of the makeup industry. As someone once said, “the math ain’t mathin’ !” 😅

Great video Robert! I worked for a company that required all of the women had to have makeup on. When I got very sick, with a rare autoimmune disorder. The young lady with the blush would have been perfectly fine if she did one dot on each cheek, blended and took what’s left on the brush for a flush on the ridge of the nose, forehead, and chin. As a darker skinned person , I wouldn’t even use this much blush of any shade.

I am so tired of the cupids bow trend because every time I try it, it looks horrendous. I have a defined cupids bow and it looks way better when I just line my lips the shape they are. For so long I tried lining my lips in that way in the video, and felt like I just had the ugliest lip shape ever because it never worked.
