I still think they’re very very cheap imo, love me some elf products.
The quality has improved considerably with E.L.F, so they had to raise prices. It seems that most of the drug store brands are really stepping up their quality to compete with luxury and it’s working.
@@abacavip6426 Same! But If Maybelline changed the formula of their lip ink stains I'd love them because it drys out and cracks my lips. 😭 I only trust revlon now for lip products.

Girl I remember when ELF was a terrible brand when I was in high school. It used to be that brand that people wore when they were really young or really broke & now look at them. I’m so proud of how far they’ve come. The quality on some products is as good as if not better than luxury. 🥰

ELF’s skin care has become my go to. I have plenty of money to spend but why? Their stuff is really really good.
It's always so nice to hear a pro mua to say this because I really can't afford luxury stuff so I'm glad I'm not missing out
And it's so hard when I DO want to invest in a luxury brand because I can't afford to buy several things just to try them out, so if they don't work out it's such a disappointment like there goes $48 😭

My grandmother was a beautician from the Elizabeth Arden school, Red Door trained through and through. Her personal go to for decades? Cover Girl powder foundation and Revlon lipstick. The pricey stuff was for the clients lol.

100%! I got laid off Friday after a very tense meeting, and had to go in today to turn in keys etc (lol I’m mad at my old boss but feel bad, he doesn’t know you should take the keys after the bad meeting! I had to lecture him about keeping the layoff letter neutral, you don’t add in nice things 😂). James & Robert have been playing on repeat to keep me calm but distracted. Also I am allergic to something & my eyelids cannot handle eyeshadow (didnt cry much, is likely liquid eyeshadow & epielle brand cheap ass products) so I’m living vicariously thru Robert’s eye makeup. Thank you Robert!

Sometimes I have to buy high end stuff (only Fenty) because the shade range in these drugstores are sometimes horrible. They’ve gotten better but sometimes the undertones are too orange and the bronzers are non existent on my skin.
yes everyone raves about the maybeline fit me foundation but I have it and the undertone is very orange on my medium deep skin
My skin is olive so finding a match in the drugstore is very hard and I don’t have many options. About Face is $22 for a bottle of foundation but it’s so worth it because I have a match and it’s not drying or heavy.

A lot of foundations pull too peachy/orange on me. I purchased the blue color pigment from l.a girl and it has saved all of my foundations. Perfect for olive toned people.

I've been an elf girlie for actual decades now, I'm HERE for the drugstore side!!
Elf is middle priced drugstore here, foundation is over $30 and the primers are in the 20s
Thanks to you Robert, I learned how to apply makeup quite well. My makeup artist quit on me days before the wedding. I ended up using mostly drugstore makeup and it lasted whole day and night!
I also did makeup on my maid of honour and she had such a different eye shape and skin than I did. She looked beautiful and her makeup also lasted whole night! I used Missha, essence, Catrice, Colourpop abd Milani. Bought only concealer from it cosmetics and used Fenty glitter bomb and one shade from a Sigma palette.

Feel so happy for you that everything worked out in the end! If they quit on you days before (with no reasonable motive), who knows what this "professional"'s makeup would look like? You were way better off with your own makeup, probably!

Soooo many luxury brands are overcharging for the brand name and fancy packaging. When the results are so similar, I find myself buying more drugstore these days! I only splurge on certain items like foundation.
You look fine, don’t feel the need to explain! People can vary in appearance from day to day and that’s ok and should be normalized. Love you Robert!

I’ve worked a lot with NARS concealers, color matching customers. While the shade range is great, the formula is dry, especially for folks with dryer, more crepey skin. It doesn’t always play well with different eye creams either.

Wet n Wild makes a dupe of Pat McGrath lipstick right down to the same tube with the little gold lips. At only $3.00, there's not much to lose.
Do they have close to the same staying power? I have never worn their lipsticks but the wet N wild powder is really good.
The PMG lipstick is pigmented to heaven tho. I WISH I could find a comparable quality for cheaper - but wet and wild doesn’t work for me :(
Ooo! I loved Wet and Wild lip pencils. I still use their glow highlighter.

If the Patrick Ta eye shimmer had not had a comparison, it would’ve been absolutely stunning but as the video progresses, the non PatrickTa side kept looking better. You make everything look amazing, even that electric purple blusher 😆

💄So, drugstore recommendations...as a "mature" lady (I recently turned 50 😉), I tend to stick with Milani, Physicians Formula, and elf. Milani manufactures many (maybe all, not sure) of their products in Italy, so you're getting great product for only a bit of a higher price than other drugstore brands. Physicians Formula I tend to gravitate towards their various powder products containing all the "butters" they use as they tend to be more forgiving on more "mature skin." Elf is great for various odds and ends; I even have much of their skincare/cleansers as well as other tools/brushes.
Over the past few years, my skin has changed-as you can imagine-and the combination of these three brands has worked well for me! Also, I've placed online orders with each of these and had very good service with all of them-no problems with shipping or breakage. Sometimes, it's nice to shop at home in peace and quiet and receive fresh/clean products that haven't been previously opened/swatched-just a thought. I hope that's in some way helpful! @mercedesvelasquez8781 Yes, actually the Cheek Kiss Cream Blush and Bronzer are made in Korea, and I think there is a lip product as well. Their website has those details for most of the products.
@@JeanC... Cool! I know Korean beauty has very high standards, so that's good to know as well. Yes, I was thinking more about Milani's baked blushes and such...they're made in Italy. I definitely am NOT a wealthy person, but I enjoy knowing I have a quality product (made just like some luxury brands) that will last me a long time, like the baked blushes. 💜
In highschool I wore Revlon because I thought it was the better of the drugstore, then in my 20s, 30s & 40s I was a total MAC chick, now at 51 I'm wearing five dollar wet n wild foundation and even I sometimes laugh at the absurdity of it all. I do almost all drugstore now except for a few high end cream eyeshadow sticks and lipsticks. Though my fave lippie now is the 6 dollar cover girl clean fresh balm in I Cherry-ish You.
I love Wet n Wild. Even though they've expanded their offerings, they're still cheap, which I love.

God, those covergirl balms are criminally underrated. They're so lovely for everyday where you don't want to fuzz over application and fading and eating like you would with a lipstick. The bliss you berry shade is truly stunning too. Have you tried the lipgloss from the same line? While the lip balms are pretty good for the price, that lipgloss is my all time favorite. It really gives that photoshoot look you can't get from most products unless you use too much.

My favorite concealer is the NYX bare with me serum concealer. Its such a good match for me, and it looks like skin. I love it❤

I have a wet and wild nail polish that i bought a few years ago in the pharmacy, it's still perfect, goes on with one layer and barely chips in my job where I'm always washing my hands.
I love their nail polish so much! Sally Hansen peels off my nails within a day but WnW just keeps going

I keep going back and forth on the topper shadow. I think the Patrick Ta one looks more vibrant and photogenic, but you mentioned the texture, which makes me think it's not a comfortable, long-wear shade. The MUA one is flatter looking but is probably easier both in application and wear.
(I've had the spider scare before, but with my earbud cord. The fear is real!)

My drugstore faves are maybelline fit me powder, loreal voluminous mascara, and loreal shadow sticks. the loreal true match serum concealer is so nice.

Drugstore makeup has been surprising me more lately. I love my luxury products, but I’ll always love drugstore makeup, too.
I love the MUA Academy palette suggestion, especially since I have held off for a year on the Patrick Ta palette. I can't justify that price for a want. But MUA Academy doesn't ship outside the UK right now and it's not sold on any US sites. 😭
Hopefully that will change, their prices and products look fantastic!
Almost every luxury product have a cheaper dupe that works just the same but for lower price. So that's nice alternative

Second comment: When you put on the luxury contour and highlight...I nearly gasped. The difference between that side and the side you hadn't done yet was so stark. It looked amazing.

There may be more to learn by showing us how different setting sprays perform as "primers". Some mattify and some juicify, comparing luxury v normal might be fun. I dunno. I do know that it's great how you're always looking out for us. 💜
MUA represented! I've got about 4 of their mini palettes and they're so pigmented and last a longer time than I expected.

the biggest downside of a lot of drugstore is limited shade ranges, both in depth and undertone. I’m fair and cool toned, and a lot of drugstore shade ranges just don’t cut it. (rn I’m using about face, which is juuust above most drugstore prices.) but for basically everything else drugstore stays winning!

When I retired years ago, I gave myself a year to try affordable makeup products, until I found ones that looked the same as the high end ones I was using. And, I DID IT! I only buy affordable makeup, and I will never go back to spending all that money. My main incentive is five of the most beautiful, perfect grandchildren in the world!!! I can honestly say, I love the way my makeup looks, and I get compliments on my skin often (I have also switched to affordable skincare, although I do use Tretinoin prescribed by my dermatologist- my one splurge!) Thank you SO MUCH for making videos like these!!🖤🖤🖤
Foundation: Elf Soft Glam, L'Oreal Fresh Wear or the Wet n Wild Tinted Hydrator, Concealer: NYX Bare With Me, Powder: Elf Halo Glow. I also love the Elf Halo Glow sticky primer, Elf Liquid Filter, and the Elf Poreless Putty primer. Milani baked blushes, Maybelline City Bronzer in 100 (I am super pale and this is the PERFECT shade for me), Elf baked highlighter, and their Bite Sized eyeshadow palette in Love you a Latte. I use the Covergirl Eyebrow pencil (super skinny size) and my new favorite mascara, Essence Lash Without Limits in brown! For setting spray, I love the new Elf Power Grip Dewy or the Catrice Illuminating setting spray.
I love nyx’s liquid lipsticks, they last so well!

I had the Nars concealer and the Fit me concealer. Yes Nars is so dry, I hated it...I went back to using the Fit me one and threw away my Nars concealer...so glad you have the same opinion!!!

my current blush obsession is a rosegold highlighter from revolution. its way too pigmented to be a highlighter for my skin tone but as a dewy powder blush its lyf

For a luxury product I really love my Fenty Beauty Pro Filtr' powder foundation, and for drugstore I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of Essence camouflage concealer and Longwear eye pencils and also with Maybelline matte foundation they had a few years ago.
I’ve been using essence and catrice only and tbh, my make up lasts all day. Don’t see a reason to buy expensive stuff anymore
My favorite dupes are the ones that don't copy the complete packaging and design, but products that can be used to create a very similar look and effect, at a low price.
Thanks for the comparison! I like both drugstore and luxury products, but find the color of cheaper ones tend to be too vibrant or pearly for my taste. So as long as the color is nice, the difference is not much a big problem to me.

I do love Natasha Denona and Patrick Ta eyeshadows. The I Need a Nude and Major Dimension III are very nice. The NARS Leguna 2 bronzer is nice too. So is Danessa Myricks cream bronzer. I’m totally drug store for mascara. For blush I like drugstore and luxury. Eyeliner is Victoria Beckham 100%

Have a great vacay!! I got sick of paying the prices for high-end stuff. I just dont see enough difference in a lot of the products to justify paying the difference.
I only use higher end foundation and concealer, everything else is drugstore.
I have a lotttttttttttt of hyperpigmentation and discoloration (I don't need tips; I know how to fix it and don't want to; and yes I wear sunscreen daily). I'm also in my 40s, so my oily skin is losing oiliness on a monthly basis. Estee lauder really is an older lady's best friend when it comes to foundation products, and I will never turn my back on them 😂
The NYX bare with me concealer is my ride or die for my under eyes, because I'm 37 and it's a desert under my eye, and it just does wonders for me there
Nars is giving radiance in a sense of healthy natural skin

I tend to go for a bit of a mix of high and affordable depending on the product. I LOVE my Beauty Bay eye palettes!!! 🩷
My top pick for blush is the Laura Geller Baked Blush in "Ethereal Rose." It's beautiful 🤩 I wear it on its own (especially if I have done a blue 💙 eye look and want something subtle on the cheeks) or I pair it with one of her deeper shades like "Tropic Hues" and use it as a topper and it just brings everything together 😊. I know Laura Geller is marketed to women over 40, but don't let that put you off because her blushes and highlighter in "French Vanilla" are really lovely.
I love Sculpted by Aimee also, her complexion products and primers are where she truly shines ✨. I am not a fan of her eye shadows...but to be fair she doesn't do that many. Her SPF body spray is also very handy. 💜
Luxury✨ I enjoyed watching this and then my own comparison in the shops is Essence for affordable and Catrice for luxury. 😂
