- So the Nintendo Switch Presentation happened. Some of it I liked, some of it well....was terrible, but in the end I pre-ordered Nintendo's hybrid console system. It could lead to some really exciting new ways to play games on the go and at home.

I completely agree. The thing that killed 3rd party support on Sony PlayStation vita was bad advertising. I hope that Nintendo learned from their mistakes and other companies mistakes. Great advertising and decent hardware are keys for making money and being able to keep the 3rd party support growing.

So far they appear to be getting it out pretty well, a few of my subbed channels have made extensive videos on it and lots of channels have spoke about it. Although this isnt straight advertisement its already more known than the Wii U
Nintendo is a circle, ps4 and xbox are squares. Squares fit in the square hole, circles fit in the circle holes. Ps4 and xbox are basically interchangeable. Nintendos console is different. Everyone should try to own a square and a circle for optimal gaming goodness. Nintendo will never have 3rd parties like the other two, but the other two will never have nintendos games. 3rd party support will be on nintendo, but like the 3ds. 3rd parties will develop unique awesome games for it (bravely default) but only if everyone realizes a circle is not a square.

Ebisu I think there will be 3rd party support, but I dont expect to see most larger 3rd party games coming to the switch. ill keep my ps4 for those. i do expect to see new unique 3rd party games and older ports (skyrim). no gta red deads, ill keep my ps4 for those games.

Hey at least they're offering it free for the first few months. I'm sure it's going to be a mess for a while, to the point that not even Nintendo would have the gall to charge customers for it.
I have a feeling this part of Nintendo's plan won't go well, depending on the pricing of the yearly online access.
Hey, let's be open minded about this for a second, ok? This could mean the online for games are better, and more online games are coming anyway, such as Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms, I think Puyo Puyo Tetris, and more.

I've been a fan since the late '80s so I've followed them a long time and I just don't think they're capable of doing it. I don't mean to be a pessimist and I'm willing to give them a chance here, but damn... the one thing I don't associate with Nintendo is "online experience".
The issue i think is that an online service subscription doesn't make the online service better, in the case of PSN/Xbox Live Vs. Steam it actually makes it objectively worse because you have to pay for it on consoles

Pipe Retrogamer Yes, all console and Nintendo fans, but the real people Nintendo needs to appeal to is the average consumer. Us Nintendo fans can slowly get Nintendo 10 million sales, but that's not going to convince developers, which in turn, won't convince others console gamers. Meanwhile, the average kid or parent of said kid has still probably heard nothing about the switch. And I'm really not a fan of how Nintendo keeps denying that this is their next handheld console as well, I feel like they aren't pushing this as a convergence console as well as they could be. They aren't showing the people the value of a 2 in 1.
Eric Walker if parents today are anything like they were when I was a kid/teen, which me being 24 wasn't that long ago, parent's are going to see this as another waste of money and will only buy it if the kids beg. It's those parents that complained about the state of games back in the 90's when governments thought they had to intervene in developer creativity because of a few bad eggs.

Switch costs 300 $ , for that amount of Money you can already get a RX480 which is a quite decent GPU for Full HD Gaming and for a few Titles even 4K gaming , yet Switch wont even be Full HD @ 60 FPS

The biggest turn off for me was the paid subscription for their online service. On top of that, there's basically no incentive to pay for their service. I mean really!? *One* NES or SNES game for free for *just a month*!? Chat on your smartphone!? What a joke!
Not to mention Nintendo has a horrible track record when it comes to online. They *could* make their online service amazing on the Switch, but can you really trust Nintendo after 3 generations of no or poor online? After friend codes, digital purchases tied to your console, and features lacking in certain games (i.e. no voice chat in Splatoon), they have *gall* to charge people for online!?
And who's gonna pay for a service just to play Smash Bros. Mario Kart and Splatoon? At least the the competition has way more online multiplayer games.
If the price is anywhere $50/year or $4-$5/month, there NEEDS to be a boycott. The only way I'll pay for this service is if it's leaps and bounds better than Steam and GOG. Otherwise, they should reverse their decision and make it free.
EDIT: Don't get me wrong! I don't mean boycott the Nintendo Switch console altogether. I mean specifically the online service.
Remember when Sony made you have PlayStation Plus for PS4 to play online? I don't remember a boycott. Even when they raised it to 60.
King Bradberry Flad Mast I don't support Sony charging for online on the PS4. Paid subscriptions from Sony and Microsoft (and now Nintendo) is one of the major reasons why I mainly game on PC nowadays.
*HOWEVER*, even though Sony and Microsoft charge you for online, *at least* they give you tons of free games that you get to keep forever.
Plus there's tons of online multiplayer games on PS4 and Xbox One: exclusives and third-party multiplats.

With Nintendo's upcoming service, at the moment, there's absolutely *NO* reason to pay for it. Yes they _could_ improve the service, but I'm remaining skeptical.
My biggest concern is that even if their online service sucks, people will still pay for it. The more bad business practices people support, the worse they become.
We have no idea how much it will cost or exactly what the benefits are.

You never know, maybe they will bring out a proper Metroid game for the Switch... if they want to make the Switch a massive hit then bringing out a Metroid game would help them do it. Honestly I can not wait for the Switch and i've already preordered the neon colour version but kinda makes you wonder the 3DS's fate will be after the launch.
Metroid Prime 2 came out over a decade ago, prime 3 came out about a decade ago. We just need Prime 4 on the switch.

I'm so glad the Pro Controller has motion controls. Take a game like Splatoon where motion makes aiming so much easier (its strange and probably a disadvantage if you DONT use motion), or even smaller aspects of a game like quick aiming with a bow in BotW, that's where motion controls really shine.

The switch is the only console worth buying IMO. The majority of Xbox One and PS4 games can be found on PC and you will often have a better experience. With the exception of a few, both systems don't really have exclusive games that make it a must buy IMO. Nintendo has Zelda and that alone is reason for me to buy the Switch.
PS has Uncharted, Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, Infamous, God of War, Killzone, The Last Guardian, Until Dawn, etc.
Yes, and it took Playstation 3 years to release most of those titles. Killzone? That's the game you want to use to prop up Sony? Give me Metroid any other day.

Well, I'd rather have a dead franchise with amazing games than a franchise that slowly dies with worse games over time. I can agree that the last two Metroid titles were terrible, but what killzone game competes with Prime? None. Also, Guerilla Cambridge - the developers of that supposedly really great Killzone handheld game, just got closed. Horizon Zero Dawn is being received much better than Killzone ever was. Unless they outsource Killzone, Killzone looks like it's getting the shaft for good. Metroid will have to make a comeback because Nintendo has no other game in the same market as Metroid. Even if Shadowfall sold ... ok, it was a launch title.

Your reflection on HD Rumble is EXACTLY what I was thinking during the presentation. They set themselves up in a really bad way by using 1,2, Switch as the opening of the presentation. It got everybody in the mindset of "Nintendo's going back to gimmicky motion control party games" so by the time they started showing games that ACTUALLY used the new features in ways practical to hardcore gaming, people weren't in the mindset to consider those applications. The Arms trailer did the same thing: they're advertising a HARDCORE CHARACTER-FOCUSED VERSUS FIGHTER as if it's a fun little party game. This thing is competing with Street Fighter and they make it look like it's competing with Wii Sports.
Jeez! Nintendo Switch games are in cartridges, you don't have to install the game! 32 gb of storage is fine.

Rich, you think too hardcore-centric. Even if Nintendo made a conventional console with third party support they'll still have trouble selling it because the majority of gamers see Nintendo as childish and would turn it away in favor of Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo still needs the casual audience in order to survive, and the only way to bring them in is through innovation. What Nintendo really needs is a console that appeals to BOTH the casual and hardcore audience without alienating the other side.
The problem with the Wii and Wii U is Nintendo focused too much on casuals and alienated third parties and hardcore gamers in the process. The Switch seems like a much better balance this time around. The Switch still has motion controls (because it's more accessible to non-gamers, not because they like gimmicks), but it's optional and doesn't force everyone to use them. It also has graphics that aren't too much of a generation gap for third parties to develop on. Casuals will enjoy playing on it because it reminds them of a tablet, and hardcore gamers just like the portable aspect in general. It seems like the Switch is a great system for both demographics. The real test comes this holiday season, and Nintendo might even consider price drops and bundling more storage space by then. We'll just have to wait and see.

Also the storige. 32GB is a joke. Yes you can get a better one but that doesn't come with the system initaly. So looking at that way you can consider that as part of the consoles price honestly.
dricsi07 Yeah 32 gb is a joke. I am satisfied that they use cartridges and that the switch will be able to support 2TB micro SDs, but still if you dont get an micro SD and only download games or enough DLCs, then you have a problem.

Yes the Switch is relatively cheap,but think of all the other things that you really should buy. Let's start with the obvious: a game. Already it's 360 dollars. You want more memory? That will add up to 400 dollars if you get the 128 GB SD card. You want a normal controller? Extra 70 dollars for the big N. Also there are things like the grip that charges the joy cons for 30 more dollars,but that is far from necessary. So if you get the Switch with a "pro" controller,a game and an SD card with a decent amount of memory it will cost you at least 470 dollars. Oh that is shady Nintendo.

Add in a game along with a possible online subscription and that brings it to around 520$. The Switch is barely launching. Did you expect Nintendo to sell it for 200$ and include a game and extra controllers? And if you want to talk "shady", then refer to Microsoft for when they packed in a Kinect with every Xbox One at its launch. Which made its price hit 499$. So if you add in a game and an online subscription, that brings it to 620$ or so.
the differrence is that in 2013 the hardware in the ps4 was worth 400 bucks. I'm not the kind of guy who cares that a character model on pc has 150 more pores on their face then on consoles,however i do realize that the Switch is weaker than PS4 and XBOX One,and there are rumours that those might go obsolete cause of the ps4 pro,do you really think that Switch won't suffer the same fate?
+Yrua Yedynak I don't believe the Switch would be made obsolete just because of the PS4 Pro & Xbox Scorpio. The Switch is a hybrid console. It can fully function as a handheld. The 3DS sold around 60 million units. If Nintendo can advertise and market the Switch to the people who bought a 3DS, than the Switch has a much brighter future than the Wii U. Not to mention the reason people bought a 3DS was because of the software. Not because the 3DS was HD and could game online at 60 fps. There is a saying regarding technology that I feel almost nobody remembers. Software sells Hardware. The Switch's success will all be dependent on whether Nintendo can bring some 1st party heavy hitters. Yes, 3rd Party is very important, but I can say right now that the Switch seems like it will do better than the Wii U. Making games for the Switch is easier than it was for the Wii U. Not to mention the Switch offers portability. Neither the Xbox or PS4 offer that. Specs matter, but they aren't everything. It's all about the Software. Loads of people bought a Wii just to play Wii Sports. Many people bought an Xbox 360 in anticipation of Halo 3. Many people bought a PS4 over the Xbox One because a large majority deem the PS4 to have better exclusives. If you think the Switch will straight up fail and do worse than the Wii U, than you are minsinformed. The Switch may not sell more than the PS2 or DS, but by no means is it a guaranteed failure. I can see it doing better than the N64. Not to mention the name and marketing for the Switch is going to help it a ton. That was another thing that really killed the Wii U.

Christian Duran... Look, 59.99$ on Amazon, for Skyrim on the Switch and 19.99$ on Steam... It's a no-brainer, an old portable PC will run this type of games at a third of the Switch price. Yes, you don't have the JoyCon, but you have a bigger screen and a better battery life (in some cases).

Around 10 minute mark: YES! I do this all the time with the wiimote and nunchuk when playing Xenoblade! No motioncontrols, so I can just lean back in my chair and use he armrests for once.
A average 128 gb SD card is around 15$ CAD, so I don't see why the 3rd party should be afraid of the low space on the switch, it can be cheaply upgraded. This should be noted that a 1-2TB hard drive to upgrade the mediocre 500 gb of the ps4 is still quite expensive. And most people had to upgrade due to frequent data management that the default HDD required. I fing that in general game are pretty beaffy nowdays so a 300-500 consoles can't quite keep up with the developpers way of making current gen games.

I don't like the fact one joystick is on the bottom and the other one is at the top spread apart so far. I have never liked playing with that particular layout. This one looks worse. When I am spending money I have the right as a consumer to be picky because it's my money and it's really none of your business. :)

Following development there is still localisation, production etc. so it will take a little bit of time. Also it would be very unwise to compete with Zelda on day 1, especially when if they put all their eggs in one basket they'll be left with little to show come the holiday season.

I think what excited me the most was the new information about the hardware. They crammed a lot of stuff into those joy-cons: Rumble function, motion controls, shoulder buttons, camera reader, amiboo reader. The motion control will make it possible to play Wii games. The touch screen will make it posible to play Wii U games. And I am hoping the cardridge system will be the end of long start up- and loading times.

You forgot that the Switch is cart based and not disc based like the PS4 and xbone where a large hard drive is important. You don't need to install games to it. If Nintendo do increases the hard drive and charge you more than you will be bitching that it cost so much. I just bought a 256G micro sd card and that is plenty to store all my games to it. Zelda is only 13.4G and besides I am buying triple A games on cart and party/ multi-player games on digital.

Light23K black ops 3 dlc 3 was about 7.6 gb for maps and such. cod releases 4 dlc every year which means (lets go for 5gb each) 4 dlc's its already 20gb of space taken for one game, and this is just cod. other games have massive dlc patches but it just depends on what game.
On the subject of using the Joy-cons separately while reclining, that was one of my favorite ways to play Wii games back in the day, especially once I bought a 3rd party wireless nunchuck. I have fond memories of playing Mario Kart Wii while laying on the couch. I was never more comfortable while playing games than I was back then. I even bust out my old Wii remote and wireless nunchuck when I play Mario Kart 8.

No it isn´t. You have to pay 400 € for a Switch with ONE fucking game in Europe. That´s 150€ more than you pay for a PS4 which has 10 x the power, 10 x the library, a blu ray player and a 500GB HDD and on top of all that comes with a game included.

I've noticed lately as I've been binging dark souls (as I have done for a year now almost) and rocket league constantly on my pc - I've been using my ps4 controller all the time in addition to doing work on a pc all day. Using a mouse and keyboard for gaming as well as work is tiring, but even using the ps4 controller is straining my forearms in the way I sit. I would love to have one piece in each hand and not have to hold my arms together in front of me to relieve the strain. Forget the shoulder I'm worried about CTS and all that shit!

Not everything here is immediately necessary. a joycon grip is included unless you want one that charges, which will rarely be necessary as the joy cons last 20 hours and can be charged overnight. With that the pro controller isn't 100% necessary, only if you want some more comfort. If you buy most games physically, it will take a while to fill the 32 GB storage. And yeah if you break something you have to rebuy it, but then that's your own fault.
