    Hey Arch...It know its a old video. But I just got the same mower. Been working on it for 5 hours. Replaced o ring and breather gasket. Took 1 hour just to clean it....adjusted the idle screw. Works great. I looked at if I bought all the self propel parts....300.00. Ill keep it the way it is. My gas tank too just nasty. Sunny but cold in Seattle. So I got to sit in the sun for 3 hours. Thank you for your aircraft wire video. Saved me money and I like I can use the plastic tube out

      Sound good Matt and thanks!
      I used to have several of these and used them exclusively for a long time..
      Last one I had blew out the side so it was retired
      Things are getting hard, money tight so I'm trying to find ways for all of us to save a buk and have fun and learn something!!
      Thanks for watching!

    Appears you are missing the sheet metal cooling guard that surrounds the cylinder fins.

      Could be, I bought it from a young fella trying to fix it!

    Great result mate...Snapper are a good looking mower..made to last..we dont have that brand in Australia...Enjoyed your improvisation on the Filter cover....These mowers will outlive Chunese junk for decades...Just a bit of TLC and your good..Cheers from Australia.

      Thanks Gary,,,thats an old video now......For many years Snapper was the only brand I used. Honda HRX is the main machine for over ten years now!

    Wow, that was a nice repaint job. I have probably the same mower, same engine, model 21355, 1987 vintage in my case, and I need to repaint it. I have done touchups with Rustoleum Gloss Cherry enamel, and I think it's pretty close to real Snapper Red. Do you remember which type & color of paint you used? Spray cans of real Snapper Red are expensive, so if you are flipping old ones, using that would eat up any profit from the flip, I would think.

      Thanks Tom, this was one of my 1st videos when I started!
      Rustoleum makes a line of paint (Implement paint) that works well
      I don't remember what paint I used..
      I made a playlist of re-painting these machines and slowly adding to it,,
      Check it out here, this may help

      I used Gloss Apple Red Rustoleum I bought from Home Depot about a month ago (May 2024) for mine and it matched decent. I love these mowers. I just replaced the disc, rubber disc and all the bearings and belts. I have a FWD Snapper that I swapped engines with. FWIW you can use the FWD MTD style one piece pulley/blade adapter on the disc drive mower and it works well. The reason I had to do this was my replacement engine has a slightly smaller diameter crankshaft.

      Sorry,,,this is one of my 1st videos. I do have a number of videos on repainting machines.
      Its hard, time constraints are an issue.
      Repairing or "Restification" as i call it takes alot of time. That's an issue in choosing what to show
      Thanks for watching!

    I just picked up a mower just like this a few days ago. Mine is an 89 by the date on the engine. Unfortunately the deck on mine is pretty rusty, although still solid.

    • @TheNovaJohn

      That's fine,,, give it a good cleanup and spray it! Doesn't have to be mint, just cleaned up and working, well serviced and lubed! I had these for many years until I got my Honda HRX

    Arch Snapper mowers were about as good a mower as one could buy back in the day. The company had it's beginnings in St Petersburg FL/McDonough GA in the late 50's McDonough GA plant was the one that actually produced all of those great mowers from the late 50's through somewhere in the 90's I believe. One company bought them out & that company was bought by Briggs & Stratton. Bottom line like every other damn thing in American manufacturing. The You know Whos got involved & it all went to fecal matter. (Cannot say the name of the country because this platform is owned by them too) Most likely this comment will be deleted or shadow banned because there are 3 things basically not allowed here. 1. The Truth 2. Being a Patriotic American who puts America First. 3. Criticizing the country that this platform is owned by.

      Good info!!!

    • @markmosher5318
      @markmosher5318 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, really the reason all that happened is because American are CHEAP b#. Snapper went from quality dealers with a quality product to a big box selling with lower specs, and CHEAPER prices. What else is Snapper gonna do while competing with the cheap mowers. The truth is cheap consumers did it. Remember when Walmart sold most products made in America? Then everyone insisted on cheap products.
      I love old Snappers!

    Say Arch, did you paint that deck, if so how did you do the white letters

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I did, I paint most of the decks,, I used a brush to paint the letters.
      Tips;;;;make sure the paint on the deck is completely dry 1st
      Use a little thinner on a rag or Q-Tip or a stick of wood for when you need to clean up or straighten a line!
      For straight line areas, use a little tape to make the edge clean and straight

      @@TheNovaJohn good stuff man, thanks. I was thinking also about those little paint rollers, like 2 in wide I believe. I'm restoring an old commercial snapper w the extra bracing bought a brand new Robin/Subaru engine it looks badass. Now gonna tear it all down and paint the deck etc

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hugeroost Yes,, good idea, tight nap or just a rubber roller like in printing would be great,,,,have fun!!
