1982 snapper hi vac, abandoned for years, will it run?

- I bought this old snapper off marketplace for 20 bucks awhile ago. it had been sitting in a machine shed and the previous owner had no idea when it ran last. follow along as I try and breath some new life into this old 🐢.

Would you happen to know the best gear oil to put in a gearbox? Because they painted over the red gearbox with red spray paint and I can't see no numbers or nothing and they took the model number tag off of the mower. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much
Trucker I'm really not sure to be honest. Mine didn't have a real gear box just had the disc drive. Sorry I'm not more helpful. God bless you

I think I've had 5 since 1980ish and I've never had a problem with any of them. Still have 3

I have a vintage snapper rear wheel drive self-propelled with a side-mounted Briggs & Stratton 3.5 horsepower engine. And as soon as I started up it takes off by itself so I need to find the adjustment for the self-propelled

Jesus loves us as well, I sometimes wonder what mower would Jesus prefer if he had to use one. I know that seems kinda far out there but it's kinda interesting to think about. Probably either a toro or a snapper guy in my mind lol 😂
Side chute hold’s open a metal kill switch that the long kill wire goes to. Check it to see if it is working.

When I had these off I usually changed them over to pointless. They had kits for that.
Appelmac1, I've done the magnetron conversion on other projects on the channel. My goal is to try and get them running and usable using as many original parts and pieces as possible. Trying to show those new to the hobby that you don't always have throw parts or money at it. Sometimes some time and patience and alittle elbow grease goes a long way. I mowed my back yard with this mower all summer long always starts right up and gets the job done. Thank you so much for watching. I really hope you'll check our some of my other videos. Amos, I bought most of the ones your seeing now about 6 months to a year ago. Times are tough and prices are still sky high from spring. Give it another month or two and you'll start seeing the deals.

Should put a magnetron kit on to eliminate points.
Applemac I always like to see if I can't get them going using as much of the original parts as possible. If I had a magnetron handy I probably would have thrown it on there because it definitely is more reliable than the old points. Really appreciate you watching. God bless

Rick, I have a whole fleet of lawn boys waiting for me to get to them lol 😂 they're about as plentiful as grass around here. Sometimes they even show up for free on my property lol 😂

Crisper I agree with you. Good thing I'm not a religious fanatic. I just have a relationship and and love for Jesus Christ my lord and Savior. Im proud to tell everyone who he is and what he's done for me. It won't be everyones cup of tea but that's ok. Its one of the main reasons I started this channel.
