i really love this car. In my life, I've owned four of them (including the 451 MHD that I currently have and use every day), and I believe it's a brilliant car that makes you fall in love with it. I’ll never part with it.
Loving the Smart content. I also have a 2013 451 Pure that I bought in 2022 (as my 1st car even) with 43,014 miles (now around 50,500 miles or so), and while it can be a bit of a hassle to get parts for it in North Carolina, it's definitely a forever car and I like the simplicity of the base model o:
I live in the US in West Virginia. Fortwos are scarce around here. I saw my first one in 2009 but didn't buy one until 2015. I decided to do things the hard way, so I bought a Pure that had a few options with the premise that over time I would turn it onto a fully optioned Passion model. So that's what I did. First thing I did was change the roof to the panoramic one. Next I added paddle shifters and the 3 spoke steering wheel. Then I added heated seats, then power windows and power mirrors. Then fog lamps, rooftop carrier, nerf bars, Daystar suspension lift, lots of LED's everywhere, remote start, parking sensors, stereo, roof rack, cruise control, rear disc brake conversion and I am finishing up with a turbo kit. The only thing I haven't added yet is the automatic wipers with the sensor on the windshield. It's a play toy and as a retired mechanic it is a play toy and a labor of love. I am always looking on You Tube for more content on Smart cars. I really enjoy your channel. You are very good in front of the camera and you take your time doing and explaining things so that everyone can understand and benefit. Don't worry about repeats. It might be the same procedure but it is on a different car now, so it is still new and fresh content. Thank you for sharing and I can't wait to see more from you.
@@lmoore5264 Wow that’s quite an undertaking but what a great thing to do. You’ve tailor made a car to your own personal spec! Thank you for your kind words. I know from my US family links that it is far more difficult there in terms of sourcing parts and seeking out local knowledge. I hardly ever see them in California. I wonder if Autodoc export to the US. I use them a lot for quality brands at amazing prices.
Good to see another Smart, and looking forward to seeing what you do to it. The black wheels don't look too bad, and don't immediately jump out as being steel. A nice gloss black to match the tridion would be so much nicer than matt. More work yes, but surely worth the extra time to finish it properly. Good luck with it. 👍
Hi Steve. Good to see another smart series. I missed your old videos on your smarts (not really interested in the Z3) looking forward to next years smart content.
Yeah! I have always enjoyed your content. However, your videos have helped me a lot working on my 2010 pure This is a very nice color combo you got I love the manual windows! Looking forward to all the great videos!. Thank you and congratulations!
Sometimes it's the simple features that make a car particularly beautiful. I am very sure that you will make some interesting videos with this Smart and its repair. Many thanks for that! 🙋🏻♂️
Mine doesn't go into reverse 100% of the time and I've had to learn to live with it but absolutely love it and can get a surprising amount of shopping in the boot.
I didn't realise you sold the last one. I wouldn't be surprised if mine needs a new clutch too. Wouldn't ordinarily touch that job but if you're going to do your usual deep dives I think even I might be able to give it a go.
Hopefully some people will be inspired to buy a smart fortwo 451 to join in the fun. As a 71bhp MHD owner (there will be lot more choice if you browse MHD models too) I have never had any issues with it. Just dont be eager to service or adjust the drive belt (unless it visually looks bad) garages will make it worse if they dont know the correct procedure/tolerance. Also I am totally MHD off hands free now. Take plastic trim switch off the MHD button, hold the off button down and wrap loads of strong tape around it! Forever off now. I dont know why people were buying electric bypass kits for this off ebay. Anyway I think I have same engine as you now AutoKnight as I have MHD off and my aircon doesnt work. All good to go.
i just bought the 2002 smart passion cab, love your videos mate. what kind of things should i be on the look out for ? any maintenace i should be doing that isnt common on other cars
The earlier 450 is more needy in terms of engine. Great little Mercedes Suprex units but not as strong as the later Mitsubishi engines so I’ve always really focussed on really regular oil changes. They do consume oil too which is a red flag that a rebuild could be on the cards soon. Bodily the rear arches corrode behind the rear wheel arch liners and under the sill cover. There is so much that can happen on these earlier cars and way more beyond the scope of what I can write here. You may just have given me an idea for a video - 450 buyers guide!
@SunsetfearOFFICIAL I had a Pure model a few years ago and it was the same. The lower dash panel is in the same fabric and colour as the dashboard top.
I am about to get a smart car, a passion for two 2008, bit more up market then yours, i suspect water is getting in via the windscreen edge and is slowly seeping into the computer housed under the passenger foot well near side, the damp suggest it IS leaking and has been left out in the wet, so the FIRST thing to do is make sure you seal the windscreen and anyware else ware water is getting in before it kills the electronics(proberbly causing the poor gear change) also check the wires for rodent damage, some people leave a mouse trap in the car for that reason (set and bated of course!!)
@@Alassio.Garage They do come with their own problems. I’ve made videos on many of them and I made a buyers guide that goes into details of what to look for.

Great to see you back 😀. Jimmy from Ireland 🇮🇪
Still have mine. Looking forward to the journey. You are covering some things that I may well be looking at myself.

I love the fact it's the base model. The algorithm works (eventually), new subscription earned 😊

Question , i’ve never seen a gray cloth wrapped panel (below the dashboard) on a Smart Pure 451 ! Is it a custom thing or ?
