Nutn, we share your enthusiasm over here! We're also slightly drooling over the idea of an F-16I style coloration on the Recon-035... so thanks for that. Anywho, glad you like the knife! P.S. Sweet _Aliens_ toy.
We need a high quality OTF that reverses the trend in high priced otf’s. The market needs a solid otf around the $100-$150 price range. The current OTF market has two extremes, extremely cheap crap, and Uber expensive high-end otf’s.
Forrest Gee 250 is not Uber expensive. And the reason is because otfs can not be made cheap and with great quality. If I can spend 150 on a knife, I can save another 100 and get the real deal otf.
personally I think it is showing us something we haven't seen before that action is by far the best and smoothest far superior to microtec which is considered to be the benchmark of otf knifes so I feel that is something we haven't seen before it's a brave new world baby! !!!!
So I own a couple different ultratechs...love them. I started watching this and began to have flashbacks up a lightning otf I used to have that I gave to a friend when he went to the police academy. I immediately went on line and purchased another lightning. Shortly after the order was complete NUTN brings out the lightning. Cheap materials but man is it fun and works just fine as a standard edc blade
Yeah it's good to see companies make them in the US again and Kershaw is one of them, I'm a fan of their launch line and just ordered the 7 from blade ops. Can't wait to get it, that and the 8 are my two favorite autos from them and will be getting it next. I didn't know that blade HQ is located in Lehigh, I'm from Utah and guess that they opened since I moved away over 20 years ago. Grindworks is from West Jordan I believe, there's a lot of knife companies in UT for some reason. Ya learn something new all the time, good review and subbed the channel
Gotta agree that for the price point I think they could do a bit better on things like blade steel, $270 doesn't bother me because I've spent double that on just folders and fixed blades, but for that price they need to step up the blade steel quite a bit in my opinion, maybe some M390, or cpm20cv, M4, something more in that range. Also I'd sure like to see more offerings in OTF's that have 4 inch or very close (maybe a tad more even) to it blades. Also like nutn says how about some color options, black is getting REALLY old, and not a buch of wierd off the wall colors, some nice earth tones like different browns, greys, OD's, that kind of color offerings.
Hey Nutn! GT are actually ex Microtech engineers/employees :) IMO they make a superior product. I had a CF Patron in CPM 154, and it was an AMAZING knife. Sold it recently. The Patron is discontinued now, and is now marketed as the Deltrix with a few changes.
Lovely knives, but I couldn't justify the high cost. On a brighter note, I'm delighted with the inexpensive but good quality Lightning OTF autos you mention here and showcased a few years ago...I laid in a modest stock as assets, and use one every single day myself. Needless to say, it works as flawlessly today as it did upon arrival years ago.
I am chomping at the bit for that security 9 review, price in in my wheelhouse, and there's room in the safe. "Make or break" review Nutn. My current edc and two other semi's were purchased based on price and your review!
Hey Nutn, a fellow TH-camr, who credits YOU for his start of his YT? journey, just passed 1 million subs yesterday. He has even mentioned you and how you are basically the godfather of gear, outdoors goodness and guns on YT. Wranglerstar, Cody, is the channel. The Spiderco vid in '08 was the 1st YT vid I ever watched.
The early Kershaw auto had reliability issues as well...I went through three of them, spoke to and emailed the factory about them quite a bit. I was never told anything about liability concerns, but they did finally admit to knowing about the QC issues. It was such a slim, light auto, I still wish I could have found one without issues. I finally just took a refund from the retailer.
BHQ already embedded this KRV on their page for the RECON-035 I have an Ultratech and recently picked up a Cypher ... really like the Cypher, it is a bit large though.
I agree. Black gets boring very fast. That's why I cerakoted my AR white and left the black accents. Also I love metal and wood classics! You can't beat the blued steel and wood look!
If I hadn’t just bought a grail knife I’ve wanted for a long time the Microtech UTX 70 I might have bought one of these. And yes if they do the color variations like Microtech then I will get one.
I think it would be sweet if you made a “2nd kind of cool kitchen knife set”. I’m a young man and need knives for the house but I don’t want boring Costco BS. Hope to see it!! Thanks for the vids Nutn & Co.
From my experience after meeting Nut'n and his boy's couple of times; all are very gracious, knowledgeable and impressive. What does not convey in the vids is that Nut'n is like 8 ft tall. Also for me, the best and most useful wisdom gleaned has been more than about the gear.
@nutnfancy I carry an auto knife every day. It is a Benchmade AFO II Tanto tip no serrations. The blade has traveled with me everyplace I have been legally allowed to have it.
I bought 5 Lightnings from Blade HQ in November 2015, one for myself and four for Christmas presents to my boys. We all love them and they all still work just fine. BTW they were $23.99 each. I had seen your 2012 review.
Having to recharge the halo seems silly at the price point. I get the engineering problems tho. Fun factor is cut in half. Just ordered a GT recon 040. STOKED!
If it was below $200 I score one. My daily edc knife is still my Lightning OTF, great knife!($30 shipped last December)Fires hard. If they’d only improve the fit and finish though.
Please help me. I’m driving myself crazy trying to decide between a microtech or the guardian otf I don’t know which one to get. Which would be the most solid and smoothest action. Which will hold up best. I can’t afford both so I need to get the right one first.
Another cool knife I'd love to have, but they're not permitted in Pennsylvania where I live. I'd have to just use it at home, which is pointless. Great video as always. Thanks for the KRV.
Ok.. I'm a knife guy this never owned a otf. Sad I know. But... I've got a question that maybe someone can answer. It might be dumb but does this knife have a locking mechanism?
the halo stole the show for me. but there's just so much cool stuff in this video! the guardian looks so much smoother and easier to deploy and retract than my ultratech
Nutn, how to I go about attending one of the tactical classes? I’m sure you get this question daily but I’ve only just started watching you within the last month or so. Any info would be appreciated and keep fighting the good fight.
My 7000 spring is toast and Kershaw won’t fix it either. I’m pissed because I bought it at 70$ and most I’ve seen on the secondary market go for 200$. I really wanted to collect all the colors too. Especially purple.
In answer to the question as to why so few OTF auto-knives are being carried, in my case at least, is the $200+ price tag. Believe me when I say I'd happily carry one if I could afford to. I guess I'll have to wait for Fathers day or my birthday or some other special occasion for my sons to get me one, lol.
The Recon OTF looks like a great quality knife. I believe Leatherman also uses the CM154 steel on their high-end multi-tools. I also still have my Lightning OTF. It started rattling without any tension on the DA deployment switch, so I cut off a piece of a toothpick and put it behind the switch to preload it and take the noise away. Still annoys my wife too!
because...microtech.... as an ultratech owner myself i still dont know why you would. mine is super stiff. wait, because glass breaker and reversible pocket clip! there you go...maybe blade shape?
I feel ya. However ; sure the thumb resist is perfect ...But this guy snaps and retracts harder than anything MT has offered . Also, it is over all lighter and more subtle as an EDC . Plus with CPN-154 that I like better than Elmax. Some don’t like glass breakers .GT was commissioned by the United States secret service for some auto model. Lastly, not the UT BUT , $470 MT TROODON
gstea1 Materials on a knife should never be a reason for a large price jump. Going from the lowest quality blade steel to the highest quality blade steel is at MOST $20. Keep in mind, whatever price you see on the website for a single piece, blade companies are paying 1/10th that price, or less depending on the size of the knife company and how much they're buying. Also keep in mind, you can get 8-9 blades out of a 40"x2"x0.125" pierce of stock. So if it's $80, that's
Andrew Delashaw the cost of the steel isn’t the reason the price jump is so high. When higher end steels are involved. You gotta remember materials to shape that steel is higher. ScaleModelAlberta God, i hate people like that. Someone in britain/london (mayor i think?) just straight up said there's no reason to carry a knife! Since carrying for self defence is ilegal here, and people are scared of anything that looks a little scary, or sharp. And he ignored the many uses for a knife (pen knife etc). If he'd said kitchen knife then fine. But knife in general..... our knife crime is bad.
Read about a case in Scotland where a Sous Chef was arrested for possession of a potato peeler while on his way to work...in a restaurant where one of his jobs was...to peel potatoes...
The steel comparison chart at 17:50 shows s30v, among others, as being sognificantly better in every category than m390....raising some eyebrows over here
I don't think you can give feedback to the manufacturer unless you've looked inside and evaluated a knife from that standpoint. Anyone lacking the skill or confidence to pull a top cover is just providing a superficial opinion. I happen to have my very own Recon 035 and I've pulled the top cover. All niceties aside the surface area of blade lock engagement is questionable. The front lock only engages the guide plate which is bolted to the blade shank but this plate isn't very thick. P.S. Sweet _Aliens_ toy.
does Blade HQ ship autos to auto legal states like NH ?
Not sure about NH, No to California unless you are LEO or military.... I just have them ship it to my dad in TX.
They ship to states where they are legal and they ship fast!
That makes no sense. Autos are legal in California, you just can’t carry them.
Bring back the lightning!
We need a high quality OTF that reverses the trend in high priced otf’s. The market needs a solid otf around the $100-$150 price range. The current OTF market has two extremes, extremely cheap crap, and Uber expensive high-end otf’s.

Thank you for all the dedication you’ve shown to TNP’rs for all these years Mr Fancy.
You getting so happy and excited during these videos makes them that much more enjoying to watch. You're a goof and I love every bit of it lol
Good POU in regards to the otf and motorcycles. Very wise Nutn
Guardian Tactical was started by a former Microtech engineer, so you will see a lot of Microtech style details in their knives.
personally I think it is showing us something we haven't seen before that action is by far the best and smoothest far superior to microtec which is considered to be the benchmark of otf knifes so I feel that is something we haven't seen before it's a brave new world baby! !!!!

Love that you have the ALIENS A.P.C. on the table.

Yet another very well done to the point no BS krv. Might just have to get myself an early birthday present
Dang.. Lost me at $270. But it’s nice though.
Sadly thats kind of on the cheaper end for high grade OTF knifes.
Yea I’m not paying $270 for CPM-154
Ultratech is same blade length M390 steel for same price. I'd take that in a heartbeat.
That's not that expensive for an OTF knife. It's not really expensive for any type of high quality American made knife.
Nutn could you do a review on the cordless dyson vacuum? I believe it’s the most tactical vacuum on the market. Thanks in advance.
The way that lanyard loop sticks out I bet it works just like a glass breaker- just doesn't look as mean. Love to see a head to head test...
Keep em coming! I love the project's KRVs.
Hey Nutn! GT are actually ex Microtech engineers/employees :) IMO they make a superior product.
I had a CF Patron in CPM 154, and it was an AMAZING knife. Sold it recently. The Patron is discontinued now, and is now marketed as the Deltrix with a few changes.
Wow, security-9 on the table

Glenn Horowitz, i bought a Hogue OTF. Its tuff as hell, proven very reliable and dependable... but yeah, still over priced.
Im hoping you release another Custom OTF like the one you did in 2012.. also hope im able to get my hands on one while they are available.
I am chomping at the bit for that security 9 review, price in in my wheelhouse, and there's room in the safe. "Make or break" review Nutn. My current edc and two other semi's were purchased based on price and your review!
OTF KRV on TNP ... All good things..Well done sir!

haha kudos on making a great knife vid man. alot of knife youtubers do a horrible job but you did it very well keep it up man. triple thumbs up
I have a Rat Worx MRX chain drive knife and it came out of Guardian Tactical
Armored transport from Aliens on the table.
If I hadn’t just bought a grail knife I’ve wanted for a long time the Microtech UTX 70 I might have bought one of these. And yes if they do the color variations like Microtech then I will get one.

Awww the security 9. LCP 2 makes a baby with the G19 (weight) and is raised by uncle Canik (price). Oh I'm already hyped on the up and coming GRV. :)

Having to recharge the halo seems silly at the price point. I get the engineering problems tho. Fun factor is cut in half. Just ordered a GT recon 040. STOKED!
I love my Ultratech and carry it everyday (assuming I'm not in a state that bans autos).
LinkHyrule03 - is it fully semi?
I like the Lightning OTF for a quick knife. Anything that needs more attention gets the blade from my crkt m16
Why do i still keep looking at these ....?! sad knife Tnper from Deutschland, keep 'em coming Nutn thx a lot !
If it was below $200 I score one. My daily edc knife is still my Lightning OTF, great knife!($30 shipped last December)Fires hard. If they’d only improve the fit and finish though.
I finally got a microtech, a blade hq exclusive with g10 scales, and this is a better otf?
Please help me. I’m driving myself crazy trying to decide between a microtech or the guardian otf I don’t know which one to get. Which would be the most solid and smoothest action. Which will hold up best. I can’t afford both so I need to get the right one first.
Great review but.......More important where did you get that cool model of the aliens tank ???
You: "blah blah blah...Recon"
(Then you bust out the HALO)
ME: "WHAT RECON?"
Another cool knife I'd love to have, but they're not permitted in Pennsylvania where I live. I'd have to just use it at home, which is pointless. Great video as always. Thanks for the KRV.
I just want to know about that S&W .38 spc.
what do you think about this knife as an emergency self defense option for LEOs?
Why the revolver at 5:12??
I'm with you, Benchmade needs to bring back the clip point infidel. I'm buying a Guardian tactical 040 recon soon.
Ok.. I'm a knife guy this never owned a otf. Sad I know. But... I've got a question that maybe someone can answer. It might be dumb but does this knife have a locking mechanism?
Negative . However ; the actuating button is recessed to the degree that would require intentional contact .
Hey Nutnfancy! I don't think I've heard you talk about it, but do you have an opinion on the microtech Combat Troodon?
Nutn have you looked into Cobratec?? Picked one up at Blade Runner in Tucson while visiting family, my first otf/auto and I'm liking it.
Yo Nutn, when are you gonna review one of them fancy Krebs Custom AK's? I'm antsy to see what you think of them.
I carried my XDS for about a year before I realized that my Dalton Titanium Prototype was illegal for EDC in Minnesota...
the halo stole the show for me. but there's just so much cool stuff in this video!
the guardian looks so much smoother and easier to deploy and retract than my ultratech
Nutn, how to I go about attending one of the tactical classes? I’m sure you get this question daily but I’ve only just started watching you within the last month or so. Any info would be appreciated and keep fighting the good fight.

Haven't had time to watch your newer videos but I always come and make sure to drop a like and comment. Appreciate all your work! TNP4LiFe
CPM154 isn't a "premium" steel. Really the only difference, other than being powdered metallurgy, is slightly improved corrosion resistance.
Aliens model APC is pretty cool.
Nutnfancy will we see a review of the Microtech Halo VI?
The toy vehicle, is the aliens 2 fighting vehicle?
Nuttin, any suggestions on an auto knife like this for 100-150?
Looks good. I have a Microtech Troodon that I got used for $80. I love it, sits on my end table and drives my GF crazy!
Kurt Stuffy probably a fake for $80
No it's the real deal, the guy just didn't know what he had.
Fake
@@dustinondrick7778 Not!
@@dustinondrick7778 I sense sold it back to him for $150.00 it was very real
do you still carry the Protech Godfather
Zx14? When did you get a zx14?
Nutn get BHQ to bring back the Lightning. It looked good and was affordable. Their new economy OTFs just don’t look good.
Hey man could you review the ATI Titian and thanks for all the great videos
I was having a boring morning.....until now. ;)
I love that isreal jet break down ! Lol you should do a plane break down during every vid xp
Is Nutnfancy going to Blade Show?
Isn't that the armored troop carrier from Aliens?
Hmmm meh..... M390 at MicroTech is better value in the UltraTech IMO....... I wish Benchmade would make a M390 version of the Phaeton
Why would I buy the recon for the same price as a Microtech?
Seventh Seal ultratechs have very stiff buttons. It looks a lot smoother on this knife.
because...microtech....
as an ultratech owner myself i still dont know why you would. mine is super stiff.
wait, because glass breaker and reversible pocket clip! there you go...maybe blade shape?
Now that Microtech made it way easier to open an close now there that much better!!!!
Auto blades are fundamentally over priced. Nothing about materials and build rationalize prices.

Andrew Delashaw the cost of the steel isn’t the reason the price jump is so high. When higher end steels are involved. You gotta remember materials to shape that steel is higher. They add on an extra cool factor tax

I got a chance to meet you at the Utah State capitol and could tell you didn't like me, but it's okay I still like your videos.
My guess is there was a LOT going on that day.
It's a good idea to never meet your heroes. Or your favorite celebrities.
sick aliens reference

Nutn “The more real you get, the more unreal the world gets” - John Lennon
270 for 154 cm when you can get an ultratech for the same price or a utx 85 for 220 with m390 steel.
Richard Cox it's cpm154 big difference between 154cm
OMG that Microtech TNP blade was 2012? seems like a couple years ago. I've been following for a long time. Way before that.
I like the tank from Alien 2
What a DB! Lots of subs though.
Transparent. In the south that's what we call bluntness.
I wish I had grabbed one of those lighting otf
The Guardian Tactical knife needs another inch on the blade and wider too.
No OTF has a decent index guard :(. Duno why, would be awesome.
The 43 dislikes are microtech employees
More autos please
Ppq sc review!
Guardian needs to come out with some larger blades. 3" ain't cutting it.
*NUTN!*
The front lock only engages the guide plate which is bolted to the blade shank but this plate isn't very thick. why don't you see more people carry OTFs. 1.illegal most places 2. why buy 1 good OTF for 250+ when that buys 3 + good manual knives
I dig it. If I remember right, autos aren't legal to carry in Ohio. I still want one tho lol
