Here in South Texas we see javelinas on the daily. I live on about 5 acres about 5 minutes from the King Ranch and the amount of javelinas, hogs, and coyotes I see is astonishing. Makes for awesome target practice. But don’t worry we make chicharons (pork rinds) out of em.

@Alex Amaya there are specific seasons, but coyotes, hogs and a couple other species are considered nuisance animals. So they dont have to much regulation regarding how (gun or bow or traps) or what time of year as far as i know.

I have a personal story about my first encounter with a javelina. I had recently moved to Fort Huachuca, Arizona (close by Bisbee, AZ) when I was in 5th grade. I remember it was my first week at my new house playing catch with my brother outside the yard, It was in the evening time and out of nowhere a random javelina came running between the middle of us and we both ran in separate directions. Plus they’re the worse around Halloween time because they eat the pumpkins outside the house and knock down the trash can to eat trash!

I worked in Douglas, AZ for about 7 years. My route to work took me through Bisbee daily. It’s a shitty, artsy farsty, little town known for its mile deep mine hole. Javelinas, rattle snakes, bob cats, and abandoned mines all over the place in the desert. There were many times that I ran across mine shafts hidden by brush that were practically vertical and full of water after a long drop.

I live outside Tucson AZ, and I've seen Javelinas more times than I can count. When they charge, they can do so at speeds of 35mph, they can weigh as much as pounds, so you can imagine the kind of damage it could do when it gores you, luckily, they usually occupy the same space of around a square mile for the entirety of their lives. Watch where you step.

I told the passener in the back seat, "hey look a Javelina!" Then, in my head I was like, shit, is that what they're called? I had never ran into one of those things before and didn't wanna look like a jackass by calling it the wrong kind of animal.

they are not that aggressive unless you surprise or corner them...they can't see very well. The little ones are pretty cute actually. They are almost always in packs. They don't seem that afraid of humans, they would walk right by our low outer wall for our yard while we were sitting in chairs like 10 feet away and seemingly did not care we were there. I used to see them all the time when I lived in Tucson and Scottsdale, they are extremely common. There is a hunting seasons for them, and people hunt them and they supposedly taste good, like pork.
They can fuck you up though. Sometimes joggers trip over them jogging at twilight or dark because the joggers don't see them in the low light and the Javilina have poor vision. In that case they may attack thinking you attacked them first, and they could possibly hurt you. They eat cactus, so obviously their mouths are tough.
I suppose they might attack a dog, but unless cornered most dogs could get away. In arizona dogs are in much more danger from Owls and Eagles and Coyotes and Bobcats and mountain lions than Javelina.

They're only aggressive in certain situations. They're by and large timid and wonder around under mesquite trees eating the misquite beanpods that litter the ground underneath. There are hundreds of them out at night in black canyon Arizona and I've never had a problem with them, just be loud and let them know you're coming before you're close, when they get surprised, or cornered they become unpredictable.

Javelina are no joke. I've encountered a bunch of them in North Scottsdale Arizona at night doing Security many years ago. They were freaky and they all came out in different directions surrounding me. They would stop and stare at me.. luckily I was right by car, so I got in my car real quick. They then surrounded my car. Thankfully they didn't do anything to my car and eventually they went away. That happened a few times working that property doing security.

I was doing security way back and these wild boars, almost as aggressive and tough as javelinas, in the same family as pigs anyway, came out of nowhere and knock over the trash and started rummaging through them. I was holding a metal pole and was ready to fight just in case those boars jump me, but they were more interested in the trash but what disturbs me was the fact they have no fear of me or humans. I am there with lights on in the middle of the night and my partners were all patrolling somewhere in the building, there was another one in the guardhouse within distance away where I am standing post, or sitting with a pole, and those boars came running in and rummage through the trash. And i am ready to fight for my life lol. Alright fine, I was anxious. So I don't blame ya. But they didn't bother with me and after they were done with the trash they scurried off and I was just standing close by with pole in my hands still but I am just squatting and keeping watch when my partners came back from their patrol right to my position. And those swines took off. Lol.
