These videos are great guys. Thanks so much for doing these. I had no idea the rear of these early cars just had spats in back rather than a whole wrap around lower bumper. Nor did I know the first year had 15” wheels. Neat!
Tell Mark if he looks at the buck tag that will tell him if it was originally an LX or GT chassis. GT will have the code "GT" at the beginning of 5th line. LX will have nothing. Also, the factory broadcast/build sheet will indicate LX or GT, although Mark does probably not want to start disassembling the interior to search for it. It is probably an LX though..special ordered (six-digit DSO on the door tag) with GT seats.
So...85-0007 is an LX and it was not a "special order" car through Ford, i.e. it only has a two-digit district sales office code (72), not a district sales office code and a four-digit domestic special order code (72xxxx). Not sure how those 'GT' seats got into the car. May not even be original from Ford.
@@PuristMotorsports I sold mark my 88 can’t remember the number I think it was 554 I ve had several over the years had 2002-306 and 1990 -27 it was total lost in accident rebuilt it have a 2002 exact clone right now that is a drag only car correct right down to the sail panels
Those were sold in parts catalogs. We’ve not found any evidence that says a Saleen was delivered with one of those. It may be an ABC Exclusives fiberglass wing from the late 80’s or 90’s. They were still being sold in the magazines in the late 90’s.
Saleen had a resource for them at one time in recent years. Just checked their website and can’t find it. Give them a call to see if they can be bought from them.
Great info from two of the best! Studying for the day I finally decided to work on my '85....
Great video 👍
Nice 😁 😊❤

Love the history just as much as the cars! Keep em coming!
Awesome
Beautiful car. My second favorite Saleen. Wicked Pissah
This one IS very cool. The patina on it is awesome showing the car was really enjoyed for years.
Love to have you guys do something on ASC/McLaren Coupes. I can get you several nice examples to feature in a video.
We’d love to Chuck. Can you go to www.PuristMotorsports.com and email us to connect?

#4 baby and in survivor condition! Very cool. Does Stu Akers still own the 1-3 84's?
He does Mike. Along with a plethora of others at The Saleen Ranch
That IS a big wing.
Gateway Vegas has what looks like an early 85 big wing/Hayashi right now. Needs some work but looks very original.

It’s possible that the first owner requested them. The early cars owners have a lot of direct communication with Steve.
I had 85-058 can’t remember which wing it had last I checked it was in Alaska I bought it for couple thousand from the original owner back in the 90s
What many would give to see those prices again. And the big wing cars had 84 front air dams. That’s one way to tell.

That had to be some process rebuilding that 1990. Most people just let go of them and don’t see that through.
I have a ribbed saleen wing heard used when couldnt get the regular wing? Think 85 or 86?

Are the rear side spats available anywhere?
