I'd feed Dennis, who was about the size of our fella here, about 20 large crickets and they'd be gone in minutes. I swear frog bellies have are black holes for bugs. Where do they keep them? :D I'm more surprised this toad didn't leave a nice puddle. That's their defense. Poison from their glands , if necessary, and pee on anything bothering them.
I've handled toads, just remember to wash your hands after handling them. Most of the time I see them in my area, I try to direct them away from my lawn mower and if that means picking them up, then so be it.
I use to have a road that lived in my basement on the concrete floor for a few years. I stored a lot of stuff down there and did laundry down there but I’d leave the sliding glass door cracked and he’d go in and out all spring and summer for years. Seen him kill spiders and many other insects I don’t like so I kept him around lol
