Barry you are the keeper of the flame!!! great interview w/ the lads. Yours, Still letting every deserved mate know about Ollie/ Patto!!! Ontario, Canada.
“How’s your cheekbone Ollie?” Lol What a brilliant interview, Never thought any existed. Amazing band and so glad I discovered them just a shame it was not earlier, They should have been massive but they always will be to me :)
Well look at that, my name is Swamp Eye, just discovered these guys via @Andy Edwards and I'm mesmerized by Ollie Halstall, the guitar player, but these guys are a gem ...
Better late than never mate, I’ve mentioned them to guys at work in their sixties who hadn’t heard of them either. When I played their music to them it blew them away.
I went to see Patto as often as I could, best live band at the time. I saw Tempest at the Marquee once and that was the last time I saw Ollie, I went to see Kevin Ayers and there was some short bloke on guitar, not Ollie. Turns out, the short bloke was Andy Summers. He was good but he wasn't Ollie. I was fortunate, London was buzzing in the early 70's, rock clubs, folk clubs, that was normal for me.
He was ahead of his time. Beefheart, though, was a control freak. His joy, personal and musical, being in Patto can’t compare with his likely experience with Beefheart.
That Would ( have been ) Something .. as Paul said . On reflection now its clear that Paul was actually ruminating on what might have been had the great Ollie Halsall joined The Beatles .... maybe I'm amazed ? I think we'd have been stunned in fact !

The good old days, thanks Barry
They’re absolutely cooked 😭 favorite band ever
They are! Also, Ollie's voice and even looks reminded me of English comedian/musician Nick Helm!
cool to see patto
..good job finding this!
Makes you proud to be british
Mike looks like the brother of Peter Green.
Wonderful & I still think Ollie should have joined The Beatles ... imagine !
How's your cheekbone, Ollie?
Ollie is the coolest ever !!!!
Ollie - 10 years ahead of his time - should have joined Captain Beefheart - maybe the Mothers of Invention
He was ahead of his time.
Beefheart, though, was a control freak. His joy, personal and musical, being in Patto can’t compare with his likely experience with Beefheart.
