      Yes one of the best writers in our life time, but his last 2 or 3 LP's are really not my cup of tea. Especially Macca 3. Disappointed that they are leaving 'Suicide" OFF the new "One Hand Clapping" release. I know he's a flaming leftist liberal, but full blown "woke" now? Disgusting. "Suicide" is one of the best numbers from "One Hand Clapping"!!! If they were going to leave a number off, leave "Baby Face" it's a great tune, but he hits the wrong chord during the number and has to correct himself!!:-)

    Paul McCartney’s solo work is a whole world you can lose yourself in. It’s so varied and surprising and (often) fabulously weird - it wouldn’t be nearly as fascinating and endearing if it were more studiously consistent. It’s great for those of us who’ve had to endure so much mockery for defending it to finally see the tide turning a bit.

      The best rock singer of all time. He has so many voices, all different, all pleasing. They mock this musical genius for all the wrong reasons, and they refuse to consider his body of work, so many great compositions that --- so sorry --- did not get put on the radio, so that makes for a lot of poor judges of this fabulous musician.

      There’s no doubt that Paul was the musical/promotional mastermind of the Group. It’s evident given the complex production/arrangements of the latter Beatles albums where Paul was directing the band, as opposed to the earlier ones when John was in charge. Still gotta have all 4 to be The Fab Four, however.

      This song is for me. The most interesting thing Macca has ever made. I don't think even Paul gaves it the credit that the song deserves. Nobody said a thing about this track. The only comment was.. to him, as he refers the song « A piano thing» just that.
      Why is that special for me?
      1º His voice. He sings wilder and almost unrecognizable. The way he spreads his talent in a thrilling crescendo at the end...Top!
      2º The piano riff [1:45 - 2:05] just amazing, fresh piano rock for that time. Even now, kick you inside with that power...
      3º And when you think..okey! that's the song..now repeat it with a little variation one more and finish it. He creates a brigde [2:06 - 2:24] As I like to name it 'The Edward Scissorhands Magic Bridge' Where does that variation comes from? I've been playing guitar for 17 years and when I was learning and playing the song by ear I flipped in that part..I've never seen this pattern before in any song o_O' Sounds weird, magical the first few times you hear it...but later it becomes essencial.
      4º Synthesizers. It's like C'mon! I'm watching 'A Clockwork Orange' or what? I just can't imagine hear this piece in 1973. I wish I could to blow up my mind!! The future is coming!!
      5º Clarinets after a guitar solo. Who saw that coming?...amazing mix It's a pitty they didn't sound higher with greater prominence.
      I like to fantasize imagining John rabid for paul have been able to make a record as good and a song as innovative as this was and it actually is.

      I really fell in love with this song way back when, even though I wasn't a big Wings fan back then. RAM was a solid album, but I was more fond of John Lennon in the post-Beatles years. Crushed me when John died, but Paul certainly has bounced back, especially in the 21st century. He is a natural performer, and can still write great songs. Glad this gem has been rediscovered, but the Lennon/McCartney catalog is like Cole Porter, Rodgers/Hammerstein, Shakespeare, and Mozart. It'll never go out of style. Beatles are still in the top-10 for most played tunes on whatever platform you choose today. Fifty years after they split up. Nuff said.

    I blasted this song on my boom box outdoors at midnight in San Pedro, California when some high school friends and I rang in the New Year in 1985. This song always sounded a bit apocalyptic to me (the melody is haunting), and I thought, "Wow, we made it to 1985." We all graduated high school later that year and went our separate ways to college.
    I adore this song, but I always feel a twinge of sadness whenever I hear it.

    Paul is a master at changing his voice range on different songs listen to So bad he sings falsetto

    • @yes2day100
      @yes2day100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That is something he did that some singers with an extreme vocal range didn't do. I think it is because he is just a genius composer. He rarely used his whole vocal range in one song. Very rarely. He suited his range to the song that he wrote. So it wasn't flashy or show-off-y. While I love Freddie Mercury, he made his range obvious by writing songs with ranges that flew all over the octaves. Paul's taste was to use one or two octaves per song, but he could sing almost four octaves overall. Amazing talent.

    • @yes2day100
      @yes2day100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      An exception to this is "Don't Let it Get You Down.' Goes from low range to high range in that song, very effectively. But it suited the music he wrote for it.

    Macca, proves just what a great performer he is when he really cuts loose on a vocal, as Darryl alludes to, he lives and breaths music. Had the pleasure of seeing him perform in 1990 @ NEC and he didn't disappoint. Heard many Beatles numbers for the first time 'live' in his two and a half hour, high octane performance. Paul never was a side-man. Lennon knew from the off that this man would push him all the way and together, they were simply magical.

This is the first time I've seen him sing solo like that with the improvising. Sometimes when I watch him perform, I always wonder who in the world could do that, or has done that, better than him ? Nobody, no how, no way. Not even close. He's a virtuoso. And it seems like he's not even trying. Think about this, if you compare him and his other stuff, to any rock band in the world, he's on a different tangent. Best part, I'm really high. It's great weed music.PJ in Vancouver
