This is such an amazing performance by a great band, but Olly Halsall's guitar playing knocks me out. The beautiful transitions to and from vibes are so well done they add to the song. Thank you algorithm for this gem.
Absolutely outstanding. This is the first time I ever heard of the band Patto. It seems Beat-Club has captured some very important live performances. What a treasure chest.
One of my all time favourite bands and I saw them a few times in the 70's.I have all their stuff on vinyl and cd and still play it a lot.A very underrated band that should have reaped far better rewards for their contributions to music.John Halsey is a powerhouse drummer who could have played in any of the top bands,of course,Ollie,Mike and Clive were on the money too."Loud green song",anyone ?
Saw them at Free Trade Hall, Manchester in about 1972....Head Hands & Feet and Claire Hammill were 'ill' so Patto played for the whole evening.... Probably 4 hours!! They were incredible! Lots of jamming... Covers... Dance completion open to audience, Mike Patto and couple of roadies! I only went cos I'd heard a Peel session and 'You, you point the finger'. Ollie Halsall... Utterly mesmerising!
Halsall and Halsey were later in the Rutles. Halsall was the voice of Eric Idle's character Dirk McQuickly and played some guitar, while Halsey played drummer Barry Wom.
Oh wow! Proper band me n a pal who worked with me thought Patto were brilliant he used to lend me a couple of their albums, god I was 17 "yeah getting ancient now" but still rockin' ,fantastic footage,I felt young for 6 minutes.
Hard to not state how amazing a musician Ollie was (and the rest of the band) without swearing! It beggars belief that most people haven't heard of him or Patto. It makes me smile when the same old tired list of guitarists is brought out in polls of these things, with Hendrix at the top etc...I know who I'd rather listen to!
Steve Jones used to play this on his radio show Jonesy’s Jukebox,I had never heard of this band & dug it,specially cause of the vibes solo. Really cool to see this vid, thanks
I forgive them all the 70s TV effects they thought were cool at that time. Just remember that colour TV was still young. These Beat Club videos are a treasure chest. And...they really let the bands play even longer tunes.
Everything about it is superb..incredible players..never get tired of listening to Ollie.. in all his phases..try John Cale, Heda Gabla the feedback sustain is sublime.
