  • High speed planter demo!
    How it works
    Back to the slow planter
    Another broken fertilizer hose
    My favorite riders!
    Using up the seed
    Tractor trouble
    Practically Amish style planting
    Finally the end!
Big thank you to GreenMark equipment for bringing that planter out.
Border View Farms is a mid sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. We raise corn, soybeans, and wheat on a little over 3,000 acres.
My name is Nathan. I run this channel and farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. I get questions about how and why we do things on the farm frequently, even from my own family members, so to help explain things it's easier to just show you. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture in general as well as dispel some of the common misconceptions.
I hope you enjoy my content and please ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can.
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos.
You can reach me through messages on Facebook or Instagram @borderviewfarms or by email bakernth@gmail.com. Please don't call my parents house!

For someone who has always seen markers on planters, no markers on this planter makes the wings look naked😂. Great video!

With the cost of new planters I think your better off upgrading your current planter is more cost efficient.

    • @merican64

That’s what we are doing. You have to spend 100,000 dollars on a planter then spend 50-60 thousand to put what you want it in there. So we are just upgrading ours

Your pretty excited about the high-speed planter. Maybe upgrade soon or upgrade yours?? We finished planting yesterday. On to anhydrous and spraying oats then to combines for wheat/oats harvest coming before you know it. Take care Nathan.

The demo rig is really nice. but like you said Nathan, you can get the corn into the ground in 7-8 days. Besides, you now have additional manpower with Brock. that can be a decisive factor if you have a tight schedule. So why spend hundreds of thousands of dollars just to get it done in 4-5 days? that would be dearly bought "free time"
The technology has to fit the company.

That's what a lot farmers are doing in stead of buying new planters they just upgrad the one they have. Have you ever considered running fertilizer tanks on your tractor or is that why you pull the fertilizer tank behind the planter?

You guys make these planter mechanisms seem fairly simple but I have concluded that the guy who first designed all this menagerie of sensors, wheels, vacuums, bowls, brushes, yada, yada, yada, had to be on a serious acid trip when he did it.

I'm wondering what a conversion package for your planter would look like? Clearly, high speed planting (with accuracy) opens up options for your farm in the years coming. Of course harvest and storage need to be considered as well.

I wonder if that hose broke when you stopped because the liquid sloshed forward in the tank? I have no idea, just guessing maybe it surged the line a bit? I doubt you slammed on the brakes to stop.

@@kirklothert3435 they had an 8RX they were demoing but its harder to move because they are trucking it everywhere. Sounds like they were trying to keep it to very serious potential customers. While we could buy a planter it's not at the top of our list.

Saw this ❓🤔. Can seed treatment rub off, clog seed tube brushes, leave residue buIld-up on the seed discs?❓🤔 leave residue on seed tube belt🕵🤔❓

Yes it can and that is what we use talc for. To help lubricate and reduce stickiness of the seed treatments.

Big 15 liter Cummins JD 500+HP tractor and same type high speed planter close space beans at 10+ mpg. Need full section mile long fields and no power poles
Hammer Down and field deliveries of Uber Big Macs and Caffiene Energy drinks.

What's the deal with electric poles in your fields? Is this common in your area? Here in Iowa they are usually along roads, in fence lines definitely not not beyond ROW marker. Except I have few field's tramistion lines but there poles are 1/4 mile apart. Green hose dosn't have braid, design as a suction use.
