I remember buying the Chinese ones for $89 each and Yugos later were available for maybe $150. Milsup ammo was less than $100 a 1000 rd case. Those were the days.
Thats probably the very best rail you can get. All the other ones move around. I'm not sure what everyone else uses their sks for but mine is a dedicated kick around woods gun for deer and hog, early morning and late evening magic hours require a scope to gather the most light possible, and for that you gotta have a rail.

It was made in 1965 so it is a year older than me but it has weathered way better than I have. It is a rock solid shooter that will most likely be my go to gun if the SHTF, even over my ARs. You cant go wrong with an SKS, they are tough and dependable but as a caveat, inspect it thoroughly before you buy it, especially the gas tube, people tend to forget this in the cleaning process. The SKS has advantages. It's more accurate. It's more ergonomic. But best of all, it only holds ten rounds. Anyone who's ever watched their buddy blow throw six 30 round mags of ammo in their AK knows that the SKS reload will slow your buddy's "lead finger" down a bit. Oh, yeah, that folding bayonet is cool.

That's because you want all of the gas when attempting to launch rifle grenades, also don't attempt with live rounds only use full power blanks to launch even the dummy grenades.
william provine you can find both anywhere from 350-550 in the U.S. depends on where you buy them from. Companies vs private sellers. Armslist is pretty cheap they sell Russians for 400 where I live.

My SKS with rail installed, results in stoppages..due to the odd stove pipe round that didn't escape the returning bolt. The shells all seem to contact the rail in the same place, so I'm just going to file s bevel in the underside of the rail. It should work.

As for as hunting with it be cause of the the 10 round capacity . Will be in conflict with the 5 round regulations in public hunting Management areas . Also no FMJ ammo . SP hunting ammo . Maybe the AK mag well conversion and the 5 round mag . Or just have a bolt action rifle for hunting purposes. Cheap enough these days..

I really liked my SK, but eventually traded for AK cuz of the damn mags and mag well always giving me probs, damn shame though cuz I honestly liked the SK feel/handling and looks when u put the kit on it, over the AK (now an AK107 I would change my mind lol but that's a totally diff story) Now Im rogue and went fully AR, but I like both, not a die hard fanboy either way. My next, if ever, will be 308 though.

I agree. I wanted a chrome lined bore and you simply don't get that with the Yugo. Yugo's are good rifles no doubt, but the Chinese Norincos are more rugged for sure. I have a sporter build in the 1980s for export, while my dad has a Sino-Soviet era rifle from the early 1960s. Both are accurate, both are chrome lined, and both cost around $300.
i'v owned both the chines won hands dawn the yugos front heavy didnt feed as good machining was poor it still a good gun but the chines and russian are nicer and more reliable
Chinese are good because of the chromed line barrel if your shooting surplus but if you are shooting new steel case like I do such as tula or wolf you do t really need it’s just a plus if your running corrosive ammo

Grant Kenney the very latest Chinese made sks models that were imported into USA in the 90s were stamped models, HOWEVER, about 90% of the Norinco sks’s you’re going to find are milled receivers. The stamped ones are rare. When sks started gaining a lot of popularity selling off their actual military surplus rifles (the famous factory 26’s) the began to produce new rifles and open more factories. Over time they began to cut corners here and there to save $ such as not machining a slot on the bolt, turning to stamped trigger guards instead of machined, switching to spike bayonet vs blade, and things like that. Towards the end they began really cutting corners by using stamped receivers. You’ll be lucky to ever see one though. All the norincos are great made rifles thought. Pretty much all of the corner cutting was done on things that didn’t really matter besides the stamped receiver imo.

Ash Green the shell ejects to the side and there's nothing in the way that comes back when the bolt does that would interfere with the scope mount

the chinese actually do have grenade launcher but hardly any got imported. they are separated attachments.

Early Yugos, M59, didn't have a grenade launcher. They were added in 1966, thus the designation of M59/66.

I have a 70s model Norinco and it's all steel forged not cheaply stamped. Still had the cosmoline in it had to clean all that shit out of the gas tube

The earlier Yugos have a chromed line barrels meaning early 60's amd they dont have the gernade launcher
That star bayonet is better its impossible to stitch generally and requires two docs if you even can
yugos are porly machined and bad balance they jam more and there front heavy chinese sks are lighter smother feed better and machined better now a russian sks in good shape is a work of art perfect wood perfect machining nice blueing

@@sirboomsalot4902 compaired to the china made and russian made the machining isnt as good same thing with the germen 98k good machining but yugo made the same 98k copy and the machining wasnt as good they cut corners
@@wb2413 I haven’t seen them cut corners anywhere though, at least to the extent that it impedes the function of the rifle
@@sirboomsalot4902 really look them over each one from different countrys and you will see it the grain of the metal how the screws are threaded how the sheet metal is formed like the part you flip up on the site to take the gas piston out yugos are not junk but there not the nicest
@@sirboomsalot4902 but some thing to think about take an ar15 thats sat with no oil and then take any kind of sks with no oil and see which one shots good the ar15 more often then not will have bad feed problems and the sks will keep right on shooting when I was a kid I got a lot of sand in mine and it still worked fine but an ar15 I know it would jam
