First, demand for piano in my country (Brazil) is something pretty difficult... And by the way, I bought my piano last year... I haven't even completed a year of piano...
I started my practice from that year onwards... I don't know if I'll still do a "piano competition"... I wish good luck to me (mainly on my progress on piano).
And by the way, I was born in 2007, so while you were producing this video at 12 years old, I was a month old baby, LOL.
And NO, I never participated in a piano competition.

If you are at the national contest of Jugend musiziert then u need to be really good at playing piano.

I would love to see a video on what technical changes you would make now, as well as musical and emotional changes. I too started playing when I was 5. My father is a brilliant pianist and I grew as a young pianist very fast however when I was 12 I joined percussion in school, and I stopped playing piano for the next few years. Now looking back I wish I would have kept playing and improving. I am glad that I joined percussion though because it has made me a much better pianist and musician!! I am now a senior University Student with my specialty in voice, but piano holds a special place in my heart!! Always enjoy your videos!!

For a 12 year old this is spectacular playing ! At 12 I had just started piano (we couldn't afford a piano or lessons before that) and was playing "here we go round the mulberry bush" :-) You should be proud of your accomplishment !
I used to waste the time, playing with my friends all the time when I was 12 years old... a few years later I learned to paint and play the piano... but you, are absolutely amazing!
At age 12-y-o I don't think I had yet ever touched a piano key before in my life! At least you haven't wasted the talent with which you were blessed and, of course, worked so very hard to cultivate it into something great.

I am 13 and I can fully play la campanella on 100% tempo.
I can see how Annique grew in her ability to keep rhythm and use the pedal for a more clear pearly sound. She has so more control. She had good posture then🙂. The fact that she even learned this whole Scherzo at 12 years old is just incredible and awesome!!!😟 Please do more of these!
Gotta say, if I played like this when I was 12, I would be so proud!! I only started playing piano when I was 9 though. I played this piece for my senior recital in college.

G'day from Australia!! I LOVE watching your videos! You're inspiring and I enjoy your cheeky humour too!! And just WOW!!! 12 years old and you memorised the entire piece!! Incredible!!
At 12 I finally talked my parents into letting me *stop* piano lessons -- I was bored with it and wanted to spend more time with the kids in my neighborhood. It wasn't until about 3 years later that I developed a real interest and started studying again, with a more serious attitude. And learned some more challenging music than I had played before.
At some point, probably in my late teens or in my 20s, I have played through this piece and the 3rd Scherzo, but not at this tempo, and certainly not with this fluency. Hearing this youthful interpretation brought back some memories of those efforts. I could not have played this at all at age 12; I was playing much simpler stuff at that age, like the Beethoven Sonatina in G.

Am an ammator and love to listen to any previous recording i made to see how i progresed and feel proud for my journey.
I loved to watch ur old video and all i can see is high potential for a girl who will become one day a star in this field.
Great lesson for those learning piano. Control is such an important concept and much harder than it looks. Accurately playing the notes, rhythm, dynamics and phrasing is the first part. Without this, it’s impossible to embark on really making music and bringing the piece to the next level.

I was 11 years old at 2007.
Back then I don't even thought about playing piano.
Fast forward January 2021, I started to learn piano (with arranger keyboard).
7 months playing, I already feel decent enough.
But watching this video makes me realize I'm still a beginner. xD
Cool, I've started in february 2021 and took a break in april
So I have 5 months and I can play Fur Elise and Prelude in C

You were adorable then and adorable now. I used to enter competition festivals in Glasgow and Edinburgh when I was a child playing cello or piano (my greatest piano victory was with a Haydn D Major sonata) Strange behaviour from some parents though, recording each and everyone's performances

Wow, amacing!!! At 12 I was playing Granada from Isaac Albeniz's spanish suite. I'm 15 and that's my favoutite piece of all times!! I've been playing since I was 6 but my piano teacher doesn't let me play this piece :'( what envy!! Love your channel!!

How do you deal with the lost of interest, I mean, if you have had this kind of feelings. As a beginner it's difficult to achieve certain goals as a student because a lot of things wrecks in the lost of interest, if you have experienced something like that, how did you deal with it?

I was first allowed to play at the national competition of "Jugend Musiziert" in 2020, I made it though and then... Covid...
In Philippines we have the NAMCYA or NAtional Music Competition for Young Artist
For a 12 year old, fantastic. I had 2 weird thoughts: the vest appears to be kind of thick and possibly interfere with arm movement, as it rubs around the shoulder area where your arms pivot. Secondly, it seems lacked the excitement and emotion to make the performace exciting, like you're kind of grinding your way through it. But the tempo, dynamics, articulation all seemed pretty accurate and effective, with obviously well-developed technique. I always find the left hand arpeggios in this piece taxing on the forearm, so I admire the physical strength and stamina to pull it of like that, quite impressive for a 12 year old girl.
You played wonderfully. You were very mature and scrupulous, you didn't miss a note. But above that you were inspired. How do you think you have evolved or play this piece now (it was my favourite since I was 16, when I bought the Rubinstein version)?
I loved it. I am more interested in the bullet holes in the wall behind you. Is that where unfortunate contestants are eliminated from the competition?

Pretty, say, rigid performance, but okay, nobody was born Matsuev, even Matsuev himself. :) I can fairly say that your professional growth since 2007 is definitely greater than mine in my profession since that time. And I'd like to listen to recordings of my performance when I was 12, but it is absolutely impossible. Very cool that you have this recording.

During music lessons we were hammering the metallophone at that age. Except we didn't have enough, so the majority of us was tapping on a piece of paper that had a metallophone printed on it. 😂
