I swear i was just watching your old videos with this challenge and thought: "When will she do this challenge again these videos were so good!" and i see this. Thank you so much haha!
My mom adored Beethoven and the Pathetique was one of her favs. I loved hearing her play this when I was a kid. There was a bust of Beethoven on the piano. When my mom played Scott Joplin she would turn it around so Beethoven wasn't looking at her
Perhaps Beethoven would have approved of Joplin. Joplin's music teacher was German and classically trained. By some reports, Joplin was influenced by Chopin.
Girl! Do the whole sonata as a performance. This was one of my favourite recordings of this sonata and I heard many as it is my favourite Beethoven sonata and I must say - this is one of the best even if not complete!
This piece embodies everything that makes Beethoven my absolute favourite composer: expression, emotion, dynamics, unconditional passion and change of mood. Fabulous work and playing here.
I just don't get him. I like a few of his piano pieces, but for the most part his piano music completely misses with me. I am responding because I found it interesting the things that make you like him and I listened to a bunch of Beethoven and found myself agreeing very strongly with the characteristics you listed but I still found myself not really liking it so realized that many of those things are not as important to me as things like melody and harmony beauty and sonority. He is still no where near my Top 10 or 15 favorite composers but I finally understand why someone would like him so much.
@@johnnyp6202 Hey, thank you very much for your long and detailed message. Maybe I also have such a great fondness and sympathy for Beethoven because I feel connected to him as a human being. I did a lot of research on him. Nature was very important to him. He hated it when listeners at his concerts didn't appreciate the music. Well, and then his unfortunate love affairs... :)
i love it that you often flinch when you hear the alarm bc you're focused xd (+ i admire your ability of sightreading so fast! i can barely read the score.)
You are extremely talented. I would love you to try Nocturne Op 27 no 2 in D Flat Major if you haven’t yet studied it. Also congrats on your concert, I wish I could come. ❤
I have been playing this sonata for a year. I have been playing this sonata for a YEAR AND A HALF and she just proved me worthless in 16 languages in 1 HOUR
Superb! I really enjoyed watching you attempt this challenge. You are a brilliant pianist, and so relatable. I did movements 2 and 3 as part of my diploma in 2023 (late returner here) but my arthritic thumbs/wrists won't tolerate the tremolo in the 1st movement, so it is out of bounds. I have loved this sonata as long as I can remember, and can memorise every note. Looking forward to the Chopin Etudes in London on Jan 26th, weather and public transport permitting. Please, please record the Chopin Nocturnes sometime in the future!
Great job. I'm currently tidying up the whole sonata to do my first solo concert. I know you mentioned it, but my main critique would be that the grave section needs to be played much slower. As you allow it to develop you are able to sit in it and enjoy the slow development.
Im learning the pathetique for my diploma as well as some Chopin etudes, im here to see how much of a slap in the face itll be seeing you learn it so quick 😭😭
Well, she played it before and I can attest that pianistic memory is pretty long. I played the Pathetique 30 years ago and I just recently looked at it again when I get my new grand (featuring an action on the heavier side). I had the exact same experience as her: That left-hand tremolo is a struggle. I don't remember that I had that problem back when I was younger. We don't normally consider these tremolos all that hard but they are when they last that long and are to be played by the left hand in the lower register where keys are heaver. Either way, that sonata is an absolutely respectable piece and you will learn plenty from it.
Interesting, my teacher had me start the pedal starting at the last Ab in measure 1. But I see now, you have that weird edition. I have the Henle Verlag Urtext. And I like how you've done the pedaling in the 2nd theme, the right hand over left hand bits. I've been thinking about learning this piece again, this gives me some new ideas. Thankxz!
This was actually a beautiful performance... More Beethoven please. Maybe Op. 111? Also, how about trying an Alkan piece, like the opening of Op. 39 No. 8 (the infamous "Concerto for Solo Piano")?
i was listening to this in the backround and honestly sounded very good. I think its my favorite sonata from beethoven tho, so maybe im a bit biased hahaha
Curious to hear if you’re planning on doing any more play along practice routine videos for Chopins 1st Ballade? I’m currently working on that piece, and I found your last video very helpful, and would definitely love to see more!
Think about getting a whole house humidifier. I did for my house and it made a world of difference to my guitars and to the dryness and itchiness of the skin that comes in the winter.
What does it say about me that I kind of miss all the big red X's popping up in the score? Seems like you still know the Pathetique pretty well. Watching you play this brought back great HS memories for me too. One of my best friends back then was always working on this piece. I look forward to watching you perform live sometime.
Hi,I'm your new subscriber and I love watching your videos!! Also how many years of experience do you have in playing piano? And my birthday is on January 27th 😊😅
@heart of the keys I don't know if you'll ever see this message but I love the way you always play and I respect you so much so can you respond to a question in any manner about how to go from grade 5 ABRSM to a level like you?
Well done Annique, i was playing the Sonata pathetique, today January 7th, 2025, on my digital piano, i wanted to ask you please about the pedaling, would you suggest pedaling the tremloes, i did it without pedaling, but iam thinking of adding the pedal for the tremloes, and also for the mordents, when you cross the hands, i just wondered, as a humbly self taught pianist from the age of 15yrs, I am 54yrs old now, any tips are most appreciated, all the best with your concert in London, greetings from wales uk 😀
I really wanted to go to your London show but I already booked a different show months ago that's on the same day :'0 Annique do you think you'll do another London concert soon?
Mega!
@heartofthekeys It really hurts knowing that your piano does not know the comfort of a humidifier keeping constant humidity 😢 I have an old Ibach that keeps it's tuning wonderfully by having ~50% humidity all year around and I have been very happy with Venta humidifiers for over a decade. Heating period starts ⏩humidifier comes into action again 😊 Please treat your piano with the right constant humidity so that it may serve you the best it can 😉
You might want to think about a physical therapist to help with some exercises that the stress of playing those tremolos is causing. That is repetitive stress and can lead to injury, and then where would you be?
Excited to come to London on 26th Januaryyyyyyy!🎉 tickets & info here: www.rcm.ac.uk/events/chooseseats/?WebInstanceId=3187462
Hi Annique😊
Just booked my spot, Can't wait to see :D (will be my first time experiencing Chopin Etudes live!)
Just got my tickets :D
I swear i was just watching your old videos with this challenge and thought: "When will she do this challenge again these videos were so good!" and i see this. Thank you so much haha!
Same
yeah me too

Well, and then his unfortunate love affairs... :)
Omg please do the whole thing in a separate video i love the way you play this
1 Minute: "The tremolo is so difficult! My arms, OMG"
1 Hour: A tremolo master. Piece of cake 😊
i like your de-tuned piano! beethoven meets cowboy saloon :)
i love it that you often flinch when you hear the alarm bc you're focused xd
(+ i admire your ability of sightreading so fast! i can barely read the score.)
Bleiben Sie warm, Herr Klavier
🎹 ❄️
One of my favourite piano pieces! I would love to be good enough to learn this one day!
Please come to Barcelona!!!! I love how you play❤
The 2nd movement is incredibly beautiful. I'd put it right up there with Clair de Lune
and chopin sonata 2 2nd mvt middle section
the ultimate challenge would be Listz's transcendental etude no 5 feux follets. Looking forward to seeing struggle with this :)
The excitement I got when I saw this video in my notifications. I love these challenges.
I loved this session. Good Luck and Happiness this year and a successfull London Concert!
OMG ! You are a real pianist ! This no joke. I've listened to this Sonata for decades. Two thumbs up!
You are extremely talented. I would love you to try Nocturne Op 27 no 2 in D Flat Major if you haven’t yet studied it. Also congrats on your concert, I wish I could come. ❤
Me learning this song now and watching you effortlessly play it is so inspiring and also so wild because you learned it close to my age ❤
I have been playing this sonata for a year. I have been playing this sonata for a YEAR AND A HALF and she just proved me worthless in 16 languages in 1 HOUR
I love this song so much!
If I would try this, it would be very pathetique 😂
It makes me feel a little better about my own playing to see that the left hand tremolo can be tiring even for professional pianists! 🙂
wow, but you were fantastic, in such a short time you worked miracles, congratulations you are really very good...👏👏👏😘
YAAYYY 1-10-1 is back!!! Happy new year 😆 your Tempest video has challenged me to find my inner Kempff this year!

46 seconds ago is crazy
I just opened TH-cam and found this, how nostalgic. I was wondering when were you upload one of these!!❤
I'm learning the 2nd mvmt for ABRSM grade 8 lol - hoping to come to London!
I swear, everytime you jump on the stool for the alarm I fall in love, over and over again

you look more confident not so afraid to make mistakes.
good job
I would love to hear you do a challenge with the Chopin Barcarolle. It's such an exquisite piece!
Congrats Annique, do Prokofiev Toccata next 😈
I was waiting for one of these.
You: Focusing so hard on practicing the piece.
Phone: Let's get every angel of her hands😂
This was actually a beautiful performance... More Beethoven please. Maybe Op. 111?
Also, how about trying an Alkan piece, like the opening of Op. 39 No. 8 (the infamous "Concerto for Solo Piano")?
I love your challanges
Really cool to see you play this!
Please do more Beethoven, maybe some of the lesser known movements.
We need more of these challenges !!
Nicee!!
Studying it right now😅😅
Exceencia Musical ❤bendiciones en ti❤
Love to see a new challenge

I can definitively recommend the humidifiers of Stadler Form. It kept the tuning of my piano in place in bad weather so many times!!
For the next challenge, may we see you attempt L’isle Joyeuse please? :)✨

Watching you play this brought back great HS memories for me too. One of my best friends back then was always working on this piece. I look forward to watching you perform live sometime.
The other 2 Gershwin Preludes would be fun . . .
Your beauty shows when you play piano :)
Brahms Op. 118 Nr. 3 could be really nice for a future challenge
PLEASEEE WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO PERFORM IN NRW!!!
Is that piece as difficult as Liebesleid technically? I’m playing it and I want to try Liebesleid but is it a too big jump?
Nices Video :)
will you ever do one of these episodes on an alkan piece? specifically one of his op 39 etudes
More Chopin please. Let's hear your Barcarolle F sharp major op. 60.
Can you please try beethoven appassionata ❤
Please come to Brazil!!!!!!!
Hi,I'm your new subscriber and I love watching your videos!! Also how many years of experience do you have in playing piano? And my birthday is on January 27th 😊😅

I think she is presently studying all 4 ballades.
@heart of the keys I don't know if you'll ever see this message but I love the way you always play and I respect you so much so can you respond to a question in any manner about how to go from grade 5 ABRSM to a level like you?
FINALLYY THE PATHETIQUE SONATAAA
Like it!
I’m currently doing the 3rd movement for a competition :)
Could you pls do Rachmaninoff prelude in C sharp minor?

Please do a challenge on Chopin Allegro de Concert Op 46.

Finally again!
Anique: do you have perfect pitch? How many keys can your hand teach?
Should do this with the main part of the mephisto waltz :)
Schumann op12no7 traumes wirren could be interesting as another challenge :)
Hellboy playing at 0:50 😂
I just cannot get that tremolo on the left hand soft enough. It sounds like a rifle going off in the base.😂
Finalyyyy🥰
You did Mazeppa in this challenge b4, now Feux Follets?
