I think this channel really shows how hard these Chopin etudes are. Years of dedicated practice by someone extremely talented, and still a struggle to record them all. (part of me hopes the journey continues though 😛)
My teacher had a similar thing, she was playing orchestral parts for a musical, often having hours of 'repetition' with the actors/singers. The worst part was, it was with an electrical piano, so she couldn't connect with the instrument, or have it help her. There was a lot more unnecessary force. On every tuesday lesson she was very tired in the hand, often not wanting to show right hand parts due to injury. Well, she did the same thing: relaxed during the day and it worked out! Huge respect for fighting through it, Annique!
Congrats Annique! 🥳🥳🥳 So glad to see all the process of this album! It's sad that I won't be able to see this concert. You have awesomes interpretations!
@@heartofthekeysyou’re a high level athlete now with all the associated muscle and tendon issues. The plus side is now you can drive your finger through a 5cm wood board 😂😂
@@reggieperry4606 Haha no kidding pianists are real athletes of the arms, hands and fingers literally. Like a ballet dancer of the fingers with the same physical difficulty and risks of injury. It's an artistic sport even though you don't see them heavily breathing or taking a shower after a session.
Are you kidding me, that is awesome! What an accomplishment. I am very much looking forward to getting your album. Wish I could I was in Germany so I could come see you perform live.
Congratulations on your forthcoming CD, dear Annique! Thank you profusely for sharing your hard work, artistic dedication and perseverance with us, your gratefully appreciative audience! ❤
Glad you chose the old piano. I had 30+ years access to a B 211 from the early 70s - that is the Pollini sound. A few months ago a friend of mine inherited a O-180 from the early 1920s. What a difference in tone! I'm a Bechstein or Ibach guy, but these early Steinways spark some interest in me.
❤🎉🎉🎉thank you, and congratulations. I've been in incredible amounts of pain lately. Your music is the relaxer! Yeah, it helps me say, keep moving forward. And you moved forward and accomplished your dreams. 😊❤🎉🙏🏿
Finally the admittance by Annique that Op 10 n 1 (and n 2) are the hardest for her. I always knew n 1 is very hard but in recent years of struggling to complete it, i changed from it being very hard to crazy hard. I am glad she says it too. And Op 25 n 6 is not harder even if it is very hard. Also i am glad to hear her say Op 25 n 12 demands a lot of power. There's a variety of people who says it's not difficult but it is.
@@Chopin-Etudes-Cosplay He composed Op 10 in Varsaw when his family lived in a large apartment with a good piano. There's a video of that room still preserved. It's quite a large room taking part of a whole floor but with a normal ceiling height. A good place to compose concert pieces. In Chopin's days, it was common for many upcoming young pianists to try to develop their own miraculous technique. The instrument had evolved a lot from the very light action instruments of the 18th century and was still quickly evolving. Developing an original new sensational technique and composing pieces with it was the entry ticket to many a solo musician career in a time when the aristocracy was well trained in music playing. Without a doubt Chopin searched and invented new possible techniques at the piano with that goal in mind and from those attempts was born little by little those etudes. I imagine he would have first mastered playing each new characteristic technique present in each etude for only one bar then transposed it to many harmonies to build a piece. For other etudes it's more complex like Op 10 n 4 were his compositional process looks more difficult to guess. But one can only imagine how perseverant, ambitious and hard working he must have been to pioneer new piano technique and develop these etudes. His will was strong and he must have had ton of youthful energy and self confidence. The fact that he learned the piano without a piano teacher was probably the key for him to revolutionize keyboard playing. If he had gone through a teacher, he would probably never have been the Chopin we know.
@@ericastier1646 Fascinating! I did not know this background. But yes I believe the etudes really demonstrate Chopin’s genius most out of all his compositions.
@@Chopin-Etudes-CosplayYes, and that is also the view of one famous Chopinist pianist Alfred Cortot who said in interview that what impressed him the most about Chopin is how would he compose the etudes. You cannot just randomly come up with some ridiculously difficult score and hope that after months of study it'll become playable, it won't. Given that it takes months even years to master Chopin etudes. This means that he must have worked on practicing his new invented techniques for as long to become confident enough to compose with. I imagine him trying out crazy arpeggios for months until he was able to reliably do it on cue. How could he do that without getting bored. I guess he must have added harmony into it early to make it interesting while still trying if it was playable. We have 24 studies, my guess he must have had a whole box of candidates new techniques and some of them were too audacious to bloom and make it to the final cut. Like a gardner planting new variety of seeds, some will grow into plants some won't. Of course with such a mindset a piano teacher is completely axed out of the picture.
@@ericastier1646 Yes in fact I wouldn’t even believe these etudes to be playable if I just looked at the score and tried it out myself. But Chopin didnt have anyone to tell him it was possible, and yet he not only proved them to be possible but also conceived of them. He was so ahead of everyone! I had never thought of “discarded” etudes/techniques, that is a very interesting thought! I feel though that Liszt Alkan and Godowsky also also pushed the boundaries and basically make me feel like anything is possible on the piano now!
