You and your friends remind me so much of my group of friends. We went through high school together and remained friends for life. We would camp, hunt, fish, dirt bike, dune buggy and take trips like you just did. Too many of them are now gone, but those are some of my best memories. Always hold on to your true friends. What a great outing you went on in Seward. It was good to see Cainesheads through your eyes. My family went there via boat in the early to mid-1960s, and there was a Quenset hut there left from WWII. My Dad's friend left us stay there. I have such fond memories of that time in my life. What's left is only a small portion we used to play on. The gunturet was still intact, minus the gun. What a life we lead growing up in Alaska before statehood. It pleases me to see you enjoy learning some about the early days of Alaska history. So much of what was awesome Alaskan history has been erased today. I trust you will work toward seeing as much as you can in your future travels. Be safe and have a great summer!

Such an awesome trip! A decade ago I dreamed to backpacking in Alaska for a summer panning for gold and adventuring around. I have a family now and that provides different adventures lol There are too many adventures to be had to live only once.

I would love to do that as well but financially I don’t have the funds! I would love to live off grid! Or get a van and be a van lifer! Just travel the country! Alaska would be my first choice!

Sorry to hear about your knee pain. Stuff like that is very frustrating. The weather got nice, so I decided to do a 10 mile hike 2x a week. Had to stop because my left foot mysteriously got swollen. Some kind of tendonitis. Been limping around like a cripple. Puts me in a foul mood when the weather says "Yes!" but the body says "No!".
I can relate to that! I have a bad back and foot. Really knocks you down when you can’t get around! A lot of days I don’t let it but some days I have no choice but to rest!😢
Makes me miss the adventures of my son and the other Scouts, most of them are in the getting married phase of life now. Thank you for sharing the adventure!
The old WWII site reminds me of similar features at the former Fort Stevens area near Seaside, Oregon. My father served in the navy in WWII, and I believe my grandfather was part of a group serving to protect the coast from that Fort Stevens area. Seeing those abandoned sites is like connecting with history in a totally different way, while getting to enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife/birds in the process! 🥰
Our family always stops to sing in the bunkers when we hike Caines Head. The guys sound the best! We always enjoy a good jump in the ocean too. 😉 Glad you were able to make the trip with your buddies.

Caine's Head is a beautiful hike. I enjoyed exploring Fort McGilvary.
Our family always stops to sing in the bunkers when we hike Caines Head. The guys sound the best!
