Into the Wild introduced me to the story of Chris which made me want to venture to Alaska. So finally in 2021 - after the Covid crap - I finally made my dream come true. I had a cousin stationed on the military base in anchorage. I stayed in North Pole just outside of Fairbanks and drove as far north as legal without a guide. I love your story and what you’re doing. You are way ahead of the game of life. I only wish that I had had your gumption at your age. Still, at age 60, I’m still living life. Stay true to you and never quit living your dreams. @@bill944The complexities can indeed seem insurmountable, especially when they concern family or other responsibilities, but even a little adventure is better than nothing. The untrodden path is the food of regret. I'm 53; early last year I climbed a not particularly tall mountain (2818ft) that was inland from my late step-Dad's house on an island (Arran), a house I'd spent by then 18 months renovating. I needed a break. It was March, cold, windy, snow on the high ground still in parts, but no bugs yet and all the plants died back from the winter, so the viewing was good, the ground easy to see. I'd wanted to climb the peak for a long time; named Casteal Abhail, it's not the tallest on the island (that would be Goatfell, at 2867ft), but it's not where the tourists go, no proper path for most of the way and none at all for the final several hundred feet (Goatfell is easy by comparison, council-maintained paths all the way pretty much). Nearing the end of the house restoration process, I knew if I didn't climb it now then once the house was sold it would be much more difficult in the future when there would be no 'base' from which to venture, so after some prep and watching the weather, with an early start, off I set, beginning with a 45min walk north to the beginning of the forest line just inland from the coast road. The forest walk was sublime, the very early light, sun just carving its fingers through the morning mist among the trees. I took pictures, but my camera couldn't capture what my eyes truly beheld. Eventually the forest ended, as did the proper path. Beyond was a valley that split south and north, with an ancient glacial ridge to the west. My target was to the south, roughly in line with a river run that followed the path. The ground was mossy, boggy and rocky in turns, but more visible than if I had done this in the summer amid deep furns and heather. I realised I was on the wrong side of the river at one point and so backtracked to cross, a minor delay but somehow fun diversion. From there it was a long gradual climb toward the steeper base, guessing as I went the optimal route, aiming for areas with the least heather & bog, rocky ground being dryer with firmer footing. It took a fair while but then I realised I was clear of the more waterlogged lower stretches. It was time to properly climb. Sometimes rather steep, not a good place to tumble, but always fun. I had a thermos of tea with me, but that was not to be touched until the summit, ditto the sandwiches, but I was allowed some occasional choccy milk. Another hour, higher still. Delight at finding the first patches of snow. Had to shove my hands into it. Steep enough now that a diagonal back & forth was easier. Finally I reached the flattened ridge below the summit, which forms the north side of the valley to the south (Glen Sannox). Very windy already, so I knew the peak was going to wreck havoc with audio for recordings. And so to the top, hand over hand, at last the goal attained, just before 2pm. Views in all directions, all the way to what had to be Ireland to the south east. More pictures and video. The climb would have been 3 hours, but my repeated recordings and pics extended this to 4, not counting the initial road walk and route through the forest. Couldn't really hang around though, stay too long and the setting sun would leave little light for a safe descent, so I headed down to the lee side of the ridgeline close below, there to have my sandwiches and the heavenly Earl Grey tea in the shelter of a large boulder. And some chocolate. And a change of socks after some boggy ground earlier encountered. Time to go. The same way I came up? How boring that would be. Instead I headed south, to descend into the valley, a rather different kind of terrain with its many stretches of winter toughened heather, sliding down them to cut into the yards many at a time. Rather fun. For an hour or more the main stretch of valley to the east was still not in view, as the valley runs quite far inland. From the coast I'd never been up this way before, the raised section I was descending out of sight round an apparent bend in the valley. With no paths, I followed sheep trails which served the same purpose. Grand views to the west of a different high ridge, snow all about, slow to melt in this more sheltered stretch as spring approaches. Finally I reached more or less the valley floor, heading east eventually along the remnants of the main path. The long walk back to the house, past the cemetery where my step-Dad's headstone resides, stopping briefly to report my successful climb (but ssh now about my falling on the muddy path back in the valley, and my losing a glove on the south side of the mountain somewhere; oops). Barely a minute or two from the house, I met a young couple who had that day climbed Goatfell; they had been on the peak while I was upon the shorter summit to the north. Do try it sometime, I said, a more solitary venture and more rewarding having to decide how and where to tread on your own volition. And so back at the house at last, a 4 hour descent again due to pictures and recordings taken, more with the valley walk and cemetery visit. Overall an 11 hour venture, from which supreme satisfaction, motivation batteries recharged for continuing the work on the house. I had worn my late step-Dad's travel jacket for the climb, its last adventurous hurrah. The summer a blur of final repairs and work, tree felling and riverbank fencing, dry stone wall and fresh white paint for the large front door, the contents dealt with, a yard sale in August, by the beginning of Sep. it was done, I left for the last time on 05/Sep. New owners now, with three children bringing the house new life, surrounded as it is on all sides by trees and on three by a river, mere minutes walk to the sea shore. I told them to look forward to the winter die back of the high ferns at the rear of the grounds, on the ridge bordering the quarry, wait for the snows, then climb and see the glorious view up the valley to the west, especially at sunrise. Winters in such lands delight me far more than summers. There are other peaks to climb, again those rarely touched by tourists, Beinn Tarsuiin and Cioch na h-Oighe, but doing so means no base next time, either a B&B or camping, the former expensive, the latter I've not done before. I always felt that Chris was a troubled young man not knowing what he wanted his future to be. You are certainly not a troubled young man and you are in Alaska for a totally different reason. Your parents have shown in their lives that you can live a wonderful life doing fabulous things and seeing glorious places. Hey Mick! I lived in southeast Alaska for a couple of years as an adventure for myself, I have solo climbed mountain peaks and experienced some of the most beautiful views I have even seen doing so. Doing so I have also had run in's with bears. Luckily for me it was during the salmon run and most of the bears were fat an happy, that being said I just wanted to ask you to pick up bear spray for your adventures, and make noise while you hike. I tied a bunch of old soup cans together to make noise as I moved. Please keep experiencing the part of the world I love, stay safe!
Bear spray was on his belt. You surely have great memories of your adventures! Hope you can still be at it. I find it interesting how folks touch on that drive when it no longer comes easy. Mick’s mom for instance encourages all to get outside and get happy. Simple ways are yet satisfying thru a heart of one that still longs for and recognizes the wonder of the outdoors.

You have more than this gentleman in the first 6 years of your life! You keep setting on your plan and you have good friends and family to keep you grounded. Don't get too prideful. You're a doer and a can doer always keep an objectivity and an open mind. Worklife balance. I love your perspective; you are a natural storyteller. I remember when I was your age, Chris's story was so interesting an intriguing. I bought into that philosophy, I still live by it, but age brings knowledge. You're bucking hard against being trapped in a pigeonhole you don't want to be in. You have the biggest arsenal in your back pocket, your mom and dad have so much knowledge about the lifestyle you are dreaming of. They are probably itching to help. Alaska is the real deal, they are too. You need to take a weekend, or a week, watch and to soak up how awesome they are. Bushradical and Girl in The Woods, are my favorite channels. No pretenses, just figuring out how to make it work. Both of them are workhorse amazing, but they are getting a little bit older. Don't miss your chance to gain that knowledge. I regret that I didn't appreciate it. Lots to have been learned.

I picked up John Krakauer’s book “Into the Wild” in my young twenties, before I really knew anything about Chris McCandless. I think the strong reactions to the story of this young adventurer come from disappointment. Living free and shedding off the political and social nonsense that we’ve all become exposed to is something that is deep within all of us. So, to learn of such an ill-fated attempt at such a life brings strong emotion…which progresses through pity, anger, and eventually indignation…especially when considering the help he refused. Even the refusal to obtain a simple map of the area (which could have easily saved his life). So…the reason why your channel will be subscribed to and viewed is because of the very wanderlust that abides inside us and we are vicariously experiencing this through you. The same will also result in many preachy and “parental” comments imploring you to be careful. We all want to see you succeed! Thanks for sharing.
Your take on the McCandless story seems to be the most balanced in terms of the metaphor it sought to bring to light. It is a nuanced and in the end a tragic or disappointing finish. We wanted him to be "us" that part of us that longs for the freedom and the courage to do what he did. But he did it imperfectly as all heroes do. Death is not the end but to have people bear witness to your life - that is a blessing.
Conquering fear and triumphing over danger are two sides of the cornerstone in the foundation of achieving true manhood. Two more sides are being humble enough to take sage advice and educating yourself in the skills you will need for life. Your parents laid a good foundation to help you build on. Unfortunately Chris died, because his parents failed to give hime a solid grounding. You sir shall have great success as you take your journey.

You young man are destined to become an inspirational writer. I'm 67 and ride a motorcycle and am constantly told I shouldn't because it's so dangerous. I read a book by Donna Wiegle called Finding Courage about her story of cancer and how she tells that journey while riding her Harley across the States. It's a truly inspirational story. This is the story I see you telling now. Please put your words to paper because you will not only be doing something for yourself but maybe touch someone else's heart to "kill the false being within". I'm looking forward to watching the rest of your journey.

I read an article in Outside magazine about Chris when I was in college and it made me want to drop out and head north. I didn't, then later read the book when my life was immersed in a career and family. For someone that wanted to abandon society, he had a profound impact on the people he (or Alexander Supertramp) met along the way. If you've read The Wild Truth, by his sister Carine, it's a deep dive into the messed up family life he had growing up.

I had never seen a parallel. His background was no comparison to yours. Your background is invaluable and no doubt will see you through. You have been taught a lot. Now, to put it to use and build upon that knowledge with your own experiences which will give you even more skills etc. How many people your age have the working knowledge & skills you do? Can and will things go wrong? I can guarantee it, unfortunately. But there's no doubt in my mind you'll git-r-dun. You got this. And if, God forbid, something goes sideways, you'll figure it out as you're resourceful and have options. Your doing great! I never saw anything saying Mic was raised in a cabin in Alaska, nor that they ever lived in a cabin in Alaska, just that they built cabins in Alaska. Seems by the time he came along they were in a house/ large cabin in Northern Michigan.
Bro best advice on here since you have blown up, and will continue too; Do not change a thing. Continue to larp in Alaska, at least for the time being. Build your cabin, garnish a following. But your strength, and hear me out; is your voice. You are great at narration, and I could see you evolving this channel into something big. Ultimately you actually have the power to become a face and voice to what YOU want to the world to hear. Don't get caught up in the comments, do NOT let TH-cam shape your course in Alaska. You can forget to film for weeks, or make shitty edits and make up for it with the voice over. That is why you are growing. Its your VOICE, not your footage. You got power dude. Good on you!

You make a great point about how society judges people. It's either hero or villain, because it's much easier/lazier to just put someone in a box. The tougher approach is to put yourself in that person's shoes, empathize with their situation, and try to imagine their thoughts & motivations. I think your interpretation of Chris' phrase is spot on. He wasn't just going on an adventure, or ignorant of the task at hand. He was on a mission to fight a life or death battle with himself, specifically with his prior existence. Either he would succeed against all odds, like a caterpillar morphs into a butterfly, or he dies, also ending that faux Chris.

I love that you're willing to just go and adventure with what you have, no need to have the top of the line gear like you say. But please be careful, buy a sawyer squeeze. It'll cost you $40 and throw it on a smart water bottle and you can drink all the fresh Alaskan water you want with little worry of catching something. Plus it will last you thousands of gallons. I have never in my life heard an 18 year old (don't be offended) kid talk like you do. I shouldn't have expected anything less knowing who your parents are though. You my friend are an extremely intelligent yet common sensical person who believe it or not at 56 I have immense respect for. I have been following Dave and Brooke for sometime because of who they are. Very grounded, basic needs people who aren't afraid of hard work to make a life. Like them Nick, I will follow you also because I believe you are great and you will only become greater over time. As my Grandfather once said, it's ok to make mistakes because we don't even realize we're stupid till we're 30. That has proved true for me anyway. I love the footage of the plant life on your journey in this video. Keep on going, and ignore the haters. I’ve never stood on the top of a mountain, but one of the most profound spiritual experiences I’ve ever had was on a local vista. I was going through a really rough time in my life, and things were starting to look rather dire. I sat down on the huge rock on the vista, and a feeling of peace that I hadn’t had in a very long time came over me. “still, small voice” of God, but a sudden assurance that everything was going to work out came over me. No matter how difficult my life has been since that day, I know that 1) God is in charge, and 2) He’s always got my back.
Chris McCandless lived and died the way he wanted to. He was happy with his life when he died and according to his notes, had no regrets and blamed nobody and was thankful for what he had. He lived his life. You live your life the way you want dude. I’m here living vicariously through you!
Thanks for sharing this, Mick. I've heard references to Chris McCandless, but not the details you mention. That in and of itself strikes me. There's so much in life we do for ourselves perhaps without thought of or need to share with others, or to think of others. Chris was looking for his true self and never got the chance to choose sharing his discoveries with anyone. And yet, there it is, his story, for better or worse out here forever for everyone to consider. That's amazing to me that even in our solitude we are a part of the global history. Such is life. And then there's you, here living your adventure and choosing from the get go to share your toil and the visions of beauty of the surroundings that you've chosen, for us to enjoy and ponder as we will. Again, thanks for this.

Into the Wild introduced me to the story of Chris which made me want to venture to Alaska. So finally in 2021 - after the Covid crap - I finally made my dream come true. I had a cousin stationed on the military base in anchorage. I stayed in North Pole just outside of Fairbanks and drove as far north as legal without a guide. I love your story and what you’re doing. You are way ahead of the game of life. I only wish that I had had your gumption at your age. Still, at age 60, I’m still living life. Stay true to you and never quit living your dreams. I'm 53; early last year I climbed a not particularly tall mountain (2818ft) that was inland from my late step-Dad's house on an island (Arran), a house I'd spent by then 18 months renovating. I needed a break. It was March, cold, windy, snow on the high ground still in parts, but no bugs yet and all the plants died back from the winter, so the viewing was good, the ground easy to see. I'd wanted to climb the peak for a long time; named Casteal Abhail, it's not the tallest on the island (that would be Goatfell, at 2867ft), but it's not where the tourists go, no proper path for most of the way and none at all for the final several hundred feet (Goatfell is easy by comparison, council-maintained paths all the way pretty much). Nearing the end of the house restoration process, I knew if I didn't climb it now then once the house was sold it would be much more difficult in the future when there would be no 'base' from which to venture, so after some prep and watching the weather, with an early start, off I set, beginning with a 45min walk north to the beginning of the forest line just inland from the coast road.
The forest walk was sublime, the very early light, sun just carving its fingers through the morning mist among the trees. I took pictures, but my camera couldn't capture what my eyes truly beheld. Eventually the forest ended, as did the proper path. Beyond was a valley that split south and north, with an ancient glacial ridge to the west. My target was to the south, roughly in line with a river run that followed the path. The ground was mossy, boggy and rocky in turns, but more visible than if I had done this in the summer amid deep furns and heather. I realised I was on the wrong side of the river at one point and so backtracked to cross, a minor delay but somehow fun diversion. From there it was a long gradual climb toward the steeper base, guessing as I went the optimal route, aiming for areas with the least heather & bog, rocky ground being dryer with firmer footing. It took a fair while but then I realised I was clear of the more waterlogged lower stretches. It was time to properly climb. Sometimes rather steep, not a good place to tumble, but always fun. I had a thermos of tea with me, but that was not to be touched until the summit, ditto the sandwiches, but I was allowed some occasional choccy milk.
Another hour, higher still. Delight at finding the first patches of snow. Had to shove my hands into it. Steep enough now that a diagonal back & forth was easier. Finally I reached the flattened ridge below the summit, which forms the north side of the valley to the south (Glen Sannox). Very windy already, so I knew the peak was going to wreck havoc with audio for recordings. And so to the top, hand over hand, at last the goal attained, just before 2pm. Views in all directions, all the way to what had to be Ireland to the south east. More pictures and video. The climb would have been 3 hours, but my repeated recordings and pics extended this to 4, not counting the initial road walk and route through the forest. Couldn't really hang around though, stay too long and the setting sun would leave little light for a safe descent, so I headed down to the lee side of the ridgeline close below, there to have my sandwiches and the heavenly Earl Grey tea in the shelter of a large boulder. And some chocolate. And a change of socks after some boggy ground earlier encountered.
Time to go. The same way I came up? How boring that would be. Instead I headed south, to descend into the valley, a rather different kind of terrain with its many stretches of winter toughened heather, sliding down them to cut into the yards many at a time. Rather fun. For an hour or more the main stretch of valley to the east was still not in view, as the valley runs quite far inland. From the coast I'd never been up this way before, the raised section I was descending out of sight round an apparent bend in the valley. With no paths, I followed sheep trails which served the same purpose. Grand views to the west of a different high ridge, snow all about, slow to melt in this more sheltered stretch as spring approaches. Finally I reached more or less the valley floor, heading east eventually along the remnants of the main path. The long walk back to the house, past the cemetery where my step-Dad's headstone resides, stopping briefly to report my successful climb (but ssh now about my falling on the muddy path back in the valley, and my losing a glove on the south side of the mountain somewhere; oops).
Barely a minute or two from the house, I met a young couple who had that day climbed Goatfell; they had been on the peak while I was upon the shorter summit to the north. Do try it sometime, I said, a more solitary venture and more rewarding having to decide how and where to tread on your own volition.
And so back at the house at last, a 4 hour descent again due to pictures and recordings taken, more with the valley walk and cemetery visit. Overall an 11 hour venture, from which supreme satisfaction, motivation batteries recharged for continuing the work on the house. I had worn my late step-Dad's travel jacket for the climb, its last adventurous hurrah.
The summer a blur of final repairs and work, tree felling and riverbank fencing, dry stone wall and fresh white paint for the large front door, the contents dealt with, a yard sale in August, by the beginning of Sep. it was done, I left for the last time on 05/Sep. New owners now, with three children bringing the house new life, surrounded as it is on all sides by trees and on three by a river, mere minutes walk to the sea shore. I told them to look forward to the winter die back of the high ferns at the rear of the grounds, on the ridge bordering the quarry, wait for the snows, then climb and see the glorious view up the valley to the west, especially at sunrise. Winters in such lands delight me far more than summers.
There are other peaks to climb, again those rarely touched by tourists, Beinn Tarsuiin and Cioch na h-Oighe, but doing so means no base next time, either a B&B or camping, the former expensive, the latter I've not done before. So next year likely a B&B venture for the former peak which is easier (2810ft), but after that ideally camping for the latter (2168ft, but a much harder climb), many new things to learn, and all before my entropy-destined form is no longer up to the task. :)

Hey Mick! I lived in southeast Alaska for a couple of years as an adventure for myself, I have solo climbed mountain peaks and experienced some of the most beautiful views I have even seen doing so.
Doing so I have also had run in's with bears. Luckily for me it was during the salmon run and most of the bears were fat an happy, that being said I just wanted to ask you to pick up bear spray for your adventures, and make noise while you hike. I tied a bunch of old soup cans together to make noise as I moved.

Bear spray was on his belt. You surely have great memories of your adventures! Hope you can still be at it. I find it interesting how folks touch on that drive when it no longer comes easy. Mick’s mom for instance encourages all to get outside and get happy. Simple ways are yet satisfying thru a heart of one that still longs for and recognizes the wonder of the outdoors.

I love your perspective; you are a natural storyteller. I remember when I was your age, Chris's story was so interesting an intriguing. I bought into that philosophy, I still live by it, but age brings knowledge. You're bucking hard against being trapped in a pigeonhole you don't want to be in. You have the biggest arsenal in your back pocket, your mom and dad have so much knowledge about the lifestyle you are dreaming of. They are probably itching to help. Alaska is the real deal, they are too. You need to take a weekend, or a week, watch and to soak up how awesome they are. Bushradical and Girl in The Woods, are my favorite channels. No pretenses, just figuring out how to make it work. Both of them are workhorse amazing, but they are getting a little bit older. Don't miss your chance to gain that knowledge. I regret that I didn't appreciate it. Lots to have been learned.

I picked up John Krakauer’s book “Into the Wild” in my young twenties, before I really knew anything about Chris McCandless. I think the strong reactions to the story of this young adventurer come from disappointment. Living free and shedding off the political and social nonsense that we’ve all become exposed to is something that is deep within all of us. So, to learn of such an ill-fated attempt at such a life brings strong emotion…which progresses through pity, anger, and eventually indignation…especially when considering the help he refused. Even the refusal to obtain a simple map of the area (which could have easily saved his life). So…the reason why your channel will be subscribed to and viewed is because of the very wanderlust that abides inside us and we are vicariously experiencing this through you. The same will also result in many preachy and “parental” comments imploring you to be careful. We all want to see you succeed! Thanks for sharing.
Your take on the McCandless story seems to be the most balanced in terms of the metaphor it sought to bring to light. It is a nuanced and in the end a tragic or disappointing finish. We wanted him to be "us" that part of us that longs for the freedom and the courage to do what he did. But he did it imperfectly as all heroes do.
Death is not the end but to have people bear witness to your life - that is a blessing.
Conquering fear and triumphing over danger are two sides of the cornerstone in the foundation of achieving true manhood. Two more sides are being humble enough to take sage advice and educating yourself in the skills you will need for life. Your parents laid a good foundation to help you build on. Unfortunately Chris died, because his parents failed to give hime a solid grounding. You sir shall have great success as you take your journey.

I read a book by Donna Wiegle called Finding Courage about her story of cancer and how she tells that journey while riding her Harley across the States. It's a truly inspirational story. This is the story I see you telling now. Please put your words to paper because you will not only be doing something for yourself but maybe touch someone else's heart to "kill the false being within". I read an article in Outside magazine about Chris when I was in college and it made me want to drop out and head north. I didn't, then later read the book when my life was immersed in a career and family. For someone that wanted to abandon society, he had a profound impact on the people he (or Alexander Supertramp) met along the way. If you've read The Wild Truth, by his sister Carine, it's a deep dive into the messed up family life he had growing up.

I had never seen a parallel. His background was no comparison to yours. Your background is invaluable and no doubt will see you through. You have been taught a lot. Now, to put it to use and build upon that knowledge with your own experiences which will give you even more skills etc. How many people your age have the working knowledge & skills you do? Can and will things go wrong? I can guarantee it, unfortunately. But there's no doubt in my mind you'll git-r-dun. You got this. And if, God forbid, something goes sideways, you'll figure it out as you're resourceful and have options. Your doing great! I never saw anything saying Mic was raised in a cabin in Alaska, nor that they ever lived in a cabin in Alaska, just that they built cabins in Alaska. Seems by the time he came along they were in a house/ large cabin in Northern Michigan.

Ultimately you actually have the power to become a face and voice to what YOU want to the world to hear. Don't get caught up in the comments, do NOT let TH-cam shape your course in Alaska. You can forget to film for weeks, or make shitty edits and make up for it with the voice over. That is why you are growing. Its your VOICE, not your footage. You got power dude. Good on you!

You make a great point about how society judges people. It's either hero or villain, because it's much easier/lazier to just put someone in a box. The tougher approach is to put yourself in that person's shoes, empathize with their situation, and try to imagine their thoughts & motivations. I think your interpretation of Chris' phrase is spot on. He wasn't just going on an adventure, or ignorant of the task at hand. He was on a mission to fight a life or death battle with himself, specifically with his prior existence. Either he would succeed against all odds, like a caterpillar morphs into a butterfly, or he dies, also ending that faux Chris.

I love that you're willing to just go and adventure with what you have, no need to have the top of the line gear like you say. But please be careful, buy a sawyer squeeze. It'll cost you $40 and throw it on a smart water bottle and you can drink all the fresh Alaskan water you want with little worry of catching something. Plus it will last you thousands of gallons. Just be safe and keep doing your thing man. Really rooting for you and appreciate the content. God bless
I have never in my life heard an 18 year old (don't be offended) kid talk like you do. I shouldn't have expected anything less knowing who your parents are though. You my friend are an extremely intelligent yet common sensical person who believe it or not at 56 I have immense respect for. I have been following Dave and Brooke for sometime because of who they are. Very grounded, basic needs people who aren't afraid of hard work to make a life. Like them Nick, I will follow you also because I believe you are great and you will only become greater over time. As my Grandfather once said, it's ok to make mistakes because we don't even realize we're stupid till we're 30. That has proved true for me anyway. I’ve never stood on the top of a mountain, but one of the most profound spiritual experiences I’ve ever had was on a local vista. I was going through a really rough time in my life, and things were starting to look rather dire. I sat down on the huge rock on the vista, and a feeling of peace that I hadn’t had in a very long time came over me. “still, small voice” of God, but a sudden assurance that everything was going to work out came over me. No matter how difficult my life has been since that day, I know that 1) God is in charge, and 2) He’s always got my back.

Chris McCandless lived and died the way he wanted to. He was happy with his life when he died and according to his notes, had no regrets and blamed nobody and was thankful for what he had. He lived his life. You live your life the way you want dude. I’m here living vicariously through you!

Thanks for sharing this, Mick. I've heard references to Chris McCandless, but not the details you mention. That in and of itself strikes me. There's so much in life we do for ourselves perhaps without thought of or need to share with others, or to think of others. Chris was looking for his true self and never got the chance to choose sharing his discoveries with anyone. And yet, there it is, his story, for better or worse out here forever for everyone to consider. That's amazing to me that even in our solitude we are a part of the global history. Such is life. And then there's you, here living your adventure and choosing from the get go to share your toil and the visions of beauty of the surroundings that you've chosen, for us to enjoy and ponder as we will.
