Trinity is the perfect RV dog…I am still so happy thinking about your kind hearts. Continued prayers for your safe and exciting travels and thank you for taking us along.
Hopefully you’ll never need your bear spray but you might want to watch a “how to use”. I watched one from the National Park Service. You don’t spray the bear. You point toward the ground in front of the bear and spray back and forth to create a wall that the bear won’t want to go through.
I absolutely love the duel prospective of both channels. I've so enjoyed watching good friends share the same dream. The views that you are each sharing and the separate adventures....such a joy to watch and relax to after a long work week. Thank you ❤
Take Bonine for sea sickness, doesn't make you drowsy, cause those boats don't turn around for anyone, especially if you are taking the fishing charters that actually leave the calm of Resurrection Bay! I always keep my eyes glued to the horizon. Though much more difficult to do that if you are on the boat on a foggy day where you can't see the horizon.....
Yeah - I think the foggy weather played a role. We also have the added challenge of trying to film which means looking at a screen from time to time. We learned on another adventure not to go back and preview any of our videos and photos until after we are off the boat. -J
Great video! Don’t constantly be worried about what other people are thinking. In beautiful places like that, people don’t notice if everyone in another group is carrying a backpack! Lol! They’re looking at the views! AND nobody who RV’s is going to make fun of you for getting stuck! It happens to everyone and God bless the sweet souls that rescue us all! Glad y’all got away from there! 😊
When you land in Anchorage, first thing, get your bear spray at Costco; They always stock it during the spring/summer/fall months, comes in a pack of 2. More economical. We carry it even when walking in our neighborhood, 'cause those bears don't respect the boundaries of our neighborhood :)!
My solution to the peanut / jelly problem: use three slices of bread, peanut butter on the first one. Add second slice of bread, put jelly on it. Put last slice of bread on top!
Ginger is a miracle worker for nausea!! I like to snack on it regardless, but it’s an amazing natural remedy. Those images were so stunning! Well done!
My wife, who always has trouble with getting sea sick, was able to tour that whole park and even a side excursion that the boat driver decided to take us upon, without loosing the contents of her stomach. The boat driver apologized for how rough the ride was, yet she was able to keep it all together for the whole ride!!! We both felt very fortunate and. we both really enjoyed the day!!
I can also tell you if you twist a water bottle, ant bear will run away. If available use a spoon and skillet. Just the plastic water bottle does the trick, just twisting it. Most of us carry water bottles, while out in the wild.
I'm of the belief that bear spray is like car insurance. 99% chance you'll never need it and you'll be spending money for nothing more than a little peace of mind. lol -J

I get very seasick and are sick motion sickness in general. I’ve been told to always look straight. Don’t turn your head and look sideways and don’t ride backwards. So glad you’re having such a great time. I really enjoyed this video! Trinity is such a good doggy. She is so pretty!
One of our triggers is the smell of the engines. Riding backwards didn’t bother us as long as we could see the horizon but the back of the boat near the exhaust was bad even if we could face forward. Funny how different things affect people! -J
Small boat, big waves. It gets the best of us. Try a rowboat and small outboard, on Lake Michigan, 5ft waves. Gas sprayed out the vent, and melted a Styrofoam cooler. That is the only time I remember getting sea sick.
Can ya blame me?! I felt sooooo self conscious! LOL! But if you noticed... Kalyn ended up carrying it back down. For some reason going down hill was messing with me more than going up. All is good now though! -J

If you're going out again, if possible, get a prescription for Scopolomine. It's a littl patch you put behind your ear the night before. No drowsiness. Works amazing! Good for flights too if taking a small plane flight.
I used to get sea sick when salmon fishing on the great lakes. I realized that if I eat a non greasy meal and/or take sandwiches with me and always have the coast in sight... helped my equilibrium and having a full stomach helped with the nausea. Good luck the next boat ride. 😊
I have the same brand of bear spray. We live in the middle of a forest in northern MN and a couple of weeks ago had a black bear walk along our house and look into our living room window. We were only about 3 feet apart but luckily, there was a window between us... LOL.
I live there too. I came across one coming from under my deck as I was approaching. (About 20 feet) We scared eachother. I just backmyself up and got into the car till it left.
Remember when you showed the store trip and the peanut butter was 10.00 bucks in Alaska. I commented Wow I heard it was bad up in Alaska but 10-11.00 dollars is ridiculous ❤️ that’s how I know you is a faithful viewer and subscriber.. can’t wait for more
Nice to see Trinity wanting a healthy apple. I hope your bunny is doing as well as he can. That large opening looked like it would have been fun about 30 years ago with some ropes to anchor off to climb down in it. People forget those ice shelves use to go all the way down to Illinois, so it has been melting for a while and the rocks scattered are still where they were dumped. I hope you had a nice couple weeks sitting there to catch up on stuff. Stay safe and healthy.
Please please please buy a garmin in reach while you are here in Alaska. They have them at the bass pro shop In Anchorage. If anything goes wrong you can get help. So many places here with no Cell coverage. And, we live in Palmer and have space if you need to stop and do any work on the truck or trailer.
Appreciate the offer! I don't think the InReach is in the cards for now. We're only here for another few very short weeks. And....we don't hike out to sketchy holes in the ice. 😂 (although I'm sure the Ice Field itself was also dangerous) -J
We recently discovered your channel and have fallen in love with your videos. We're in the praying and researching stages of living the RV life full-time, and your videos are a huge help as we navigate this journey. We really appreciate your honesty, and the pros and cons you share. We're especially enjoying the Alaska videos, as my wife is from British Columbia and lived just south of there. Alaska is one of our planned stops, so we thank you for all the insight from you, Craig, and Victoria.
So glad you find us helpful. Not every journey is the same but we have 2 goals with our channel - be entertaining in a positive way (bring people smiles each week) while also not sugar coating the life choices we've made. A lot of challenges come with RV life, but we have always found them to be worth the ability to explore. -J
14:10 No possible way with bear spray you'd ever want to remove the safety, put a finger on the trigger, or point at another person WHILE you're sitting in a vehicle. Super concentrated stuff, in an enclosed space. The merest accidental puff would like ruin your day and the vehicle for a week. Do that testing outside when the wind is blowing. And aim it downwind just in case. Blessings.
Appreciate the feedback! Never actually had any sort of pressure my thumb and I agree - shouldn’t have ever had it pointed at Kalyn even if it was very much in passing. -J
My wife and I did a week-long camping trip in a rented SUV 20 years ago. We had a blast camping in the rain. We lived like Alaskans and avoided the tours, and tourist traps. Our trip almost convinced us to move there. I sometimes regret that we didn't.
It is sooo beautiful up here. I do think one should never move here without experiencing the winter here first. I know I personally couldn't handle the darkness. Part of why we moved from New York state to Florida in our previous life was because of sunshine. -J
Looks like you guys had lots of fun. Trail repairs, off roading rescues, what more could you ask for. Waiting till next Friday is going to be hard. How about a short on the rescue?
A fin whale!! Wow cool! That cruise looked amazing but 8 hrs is a long time to be on a boat site seeing. Good for you for doing that. Trinity was so funny with the apples. I’m really glad you all did not go to the giant hole in the ice, I was all nervous about that. Sorry you got stuck but at least you found a place to rest and regroup for a few days. Another fun video. Thank you for being one of the highlights of my week!
So glad you enjoyed it! yeah - 8 hours on a boat can be rough if the waves are making you sick. I would rather do 8 hours on a boat than 8 hours on a bus though! -J
The seasick issue can be resolved with acupressure bracelets. They work great, and are available at most drugstores or possibly Walmart. I wore them for a week on a cruise. Only caveat: you must take them off as soon as you’re on land.
Great video! It was good meeting you guys at the Gold Mint trailhead in Palmer. Thanks for the Major Marine recommendation, we got lucky on our trip, went yesterday. What a beautiful sunny day. Raining today.
@@OpenRoading We did the 2 mile hike at Exit Glacier this morning, before the rain. There was a group heading out for the 8 mile hike. We got enough out of the 2 miles, and walked the outwash area. Headed to Homer n a few days.
@@wtalber Very cool! Homer was our favorite spot simply because it felt more "Old Alaska" to us for some reason. Hot tip - everyone raves about Two Sisters bakery...we personally found BB's Bakery to be better. Just our opinion. LOL -J
Your cruise reminded me of the time my cousin and I went on the 4 hour cruise of the Kenai fjord I loved every minute of it. My cousin, unfortunately, spent 3.5 hours in the bathroom because of sea sicknesses. Love your channel. Thanks for taking me along on your trip to Alaska.
Awesome video. I’ve been to Seward but not camping. Beautiful place . One thing I’ve got to say , it’s extremely dangerous to walk on glaciers without being roped up or with very knowledgeable guides. I’ve skied them in Europe and seen huge crevasses. I’ve also fallen in one in California on Mt Shasta while roped up. Anyway. On with your awesome trip and enjoy.
I LOVE this video! You boys were tempted for trouble on the ice field. 😅 Shew, you had me nervous! My husband and I occasionally find ourselves in a pickle with our camper. It happens. Once, he even asked me to pray, which was a really big deal! So was the pickle. Answered prayers and good neighbors are always good to have. Blessings!
I think.... the ice field was reasonably safe since we weren't close to the start of the flow downhill. That said... I'm no expert and we just trudged on out. You may notice I let Craig go first. 😂 -J
Wow so much beauty. I have to say going down to the beach was sketchy so sorry you got stuck 😢 it’s all a part of the journey. Glad to see Joseph back is doing better. Trinity looked so sad when she couldn’t go, my dog has the same look. Makes you feel so guilty 😂 ❤
First, we love your videos. Like a lot of people, we will often plan our trips around restaurants. We’d love to see and hear more about the restaurants you visit. Thanks! Keep up the great work! - Jim n Denise
I appreciate this feedback. We aren't really foodies...and generally we don't eat out a lot (although this Alaska trip has been a huuuuuge exception to that. LOL) so if we did more food info we would be reviewing salads and burgers. But maybe we'll do a little bit more in the future. We'll see. -J
@@OpenRoading I figured so, but the burgers in this video looked amazing and my wife and I both said, “that place looks great. What’s it called?” Anyhow, we love your content regardless… and we are definitely Team Jelly on the PB.
@@jimndenise3422 OH! I can give you THAT info. LOL. Gold Rush Bistro! A bit pricey...but what in Alaska isn't. And the Deli sandwich on the cruise was provided by the cruise company so I'm not sure if they make them themselves or get it catered BUT that deli sandwich was one of the best deli sammies I've ever had! -J
We did the LuLu belle out of Valdez. Best cruise ever. Saw all the animals and then some and saw a LOT of calving there. The Columbia Glacier was fantastic for that.
@@OpenRoading We did the all day cruise. We took a thermos of hot chocolate. What a life saver. I made videos of it. It is at th-cam.com/video/5Y0bbq3EDPc/w-d-xo.html if you ever care to check it out. That was probably the best part of our entire trip. Well worth what we paid. It was 100 and some dollars per person so 200 something and I don't miss that money one bit. If you get back to Valdez, do that cruise. Glad you are safe. I am assuming you have left or are close to leaving Alaska by now. Stay safe and glad Joseph wasn't dumb enough to go out into that ice cave. It appeared to be certain death even around it. Glad his back was improving too. Alaska is a hard place and I know you must know that by now.
It was! We really wish the seas had been calmer because we felt like we didn’t do it justice with our photos. All the motion made long lenses impossible. -J
Really going to chum the water now Joe with that burger, lol. you may not cut your self with the knife but that packaging is just as dangerous. When people pass you up on the trail Joe their gonna see pure genius with no backpack. Spoke to soon on the genius part after that beach snafu! Guys all kidding aside and snarky remarks really be safe on the road and keep brining us those remarkable posts. Thanks for Sharing...
That was some hike! Beautiful views. I’ll never see that in my life time. I would never make it 😂 so I’m glad y’all went and showed us these spectacular views. We did get to see an iceberg calving when we went to Alaska, that was cool. But now I realize I’ve been saying it wrong, I was calling it cabbing, 🤣 Have fun!!
Another great video, stunning views, very glad you had no bear encounters , Felt for you both l get very sea sickness , it's not pleasant Thanks for keeping it real Aussie fan 💚
Thank you for sharing. This video was so amazing to see. I think folks that get seasick or think they don't get seasick can plan well and still have it be a good experience. I say this because I have kids that deal with this, and I did not struggle with sea sickness, until I did. lol. But we always pack the essentials. 1. The ginger chews called Ginger Rescue. 2. The herbal motion sickness patches that are found on Amazon. One patch above the tummy, one behind the ear. 3. dramamine for sure but this is our last resort. 4. sea wristbands 5, a roller ball bottle with peppermint oil, ginger oil lavender, lemon and a carrier oil. I rub that around their tummies and behind their ears and sometimes they smell it, or I pack some tissues that I put the scent on. It's a hassle, but I put it in a little kit. And as long as we do all these things beforehand, and have the ginger chews and dramamine just in case, we usually don't need the later. I want to have fun with the kids and not have to avoid adventures, and it's annoying to do all this, but it saves us a lot of grief. Last time I was on a cruise, after so many times of being on the water, it got me. And I had to use the dramamine. You two had it covered, but I'm putting this out here so that folks don't think they have to skip out. There really are solutions.
I appreciate this - and we didn't have it covered. LOL. No one threw up but the enjoyment was "dampened" by the constant monitoring of ourselves to make sure we weren't going to vomit. -J
At the risk of starting an online debate that spirals out of control...Here's a bit of info from the National Parks Service: "Bear bells may be a popular item to put on your backpack, but they don’t effectively warn a bear you’re in the area. Bears won’t hear the bells until you’re too close. Yelling, clapping, and talking are more effective ways of alerting a bear to your presence." But...I will say as a hiker I would prefer people not walk the trails constantly yelling and clapping. 😂 -J
I thought you had it for sure when I saw the diesel pusher and the other fifth wheel. It sucks that you didn’t get to camp at your dream boondocking spot, but at least you made it out in unscathed. Safe travels.👍🏼😎
We could have stayed....but pretty sure Craig and Victoria wouldn't have met us there. 😂 And we would have had to endure the shame of knowing that everyone there watched us get stuck like newbies. -J
I put my peanut butter on one slice and enough jelly for flavor on the other slice. My brother smears his jelly on the peanut butter and he likes thick peanut butter and jelly.
First get a sharp knife, second it’s great seeing the four of y’all on an adventure. Next thing does your truck have 4 wheel drive? I’m so glad y’all have taken us along on the Alaska trip. Eagerly awaiting next week’s video. 😎
haha! I really need to sharpen that knife. Right now a stick of butter is more dangerous than that blade. 😂 No 4 wheel drive for me. When we were in the market for trucks 4 wheel drives were just out of our price range. It is funny any time I take it into a new shop I always get a comment like "I didn't know these cam in 2WD!" lol -J
That bear spray is ridiculously expensive. Even in the lower 48 it’s 30 or 40 bucks. I know you’re probably back already but you probably have to throw it away before you cross back into Canada. They always ask if you have pepper spray..
I think bear spray is like fire insurance. 99% chance you won't need it (only 3.8 hospitalizations from bears per year in the state of Alaska according to sources I found on google) BUT...and it's a big BUT... if you are in that 1% situation and aren't prepared.....it's gonna suck. -J
I am surprised you made it back up that gravel grade as I fully expected the truck to spin out. Had it been an older gas two wheel drive with less power and a higher first gear, it would not have made it. I know, you will get comments all the time "should have bought a four wheel drive" LOL. Even a 4x4 with that much trailer can easily get into trouble going off pavement.
For sure! When I was going down it on foot I was paying attention to make sure it was mostly hard packed dirt. There was bits and pieces of loose stuff on top but nothing I would "dig down" into. My only true fear was losing enough traction to slide backwards. Made it though! Should never have gone down. 😂 There was a class A down there that I'm thinking maybe went down two years ago and will never return. LOL -J
When we were in Seward, we took an all-day kayaking trip. We did see calving glaciers and epic wildlife -- but it was rainy and cold all day and the boat ride coming back was so, so rough. I fought sea sickness the whole way. I sympathize with you so much!
Do you remember which glacier they took you to? Seasickness is the worst because it takes what is supposed to be an amazing time and turns it on its head. -J
@@OpenRoading Aailack Glacier. Oh -- and if you're going flightseeing while you're in AK -- take seasick meds beforehand. Our flight was so bumpy. Amazing but I was struggling.
@@cynthiamyers4265 Yeah...we're doing a Denali flight and I'm already a little worried. Alaska has really messed with us when it comes to motion sickness! -J
OK, I had to Pause at the PJ&J Part. I put most Peanut butter on one slice, and a thin layer on the other. This keeps the Jelly/Honey from seeping into the Bread.
If you ever get to Newport, Oregon, on the bay front there’s a floating pier which is always partially submerged by the weight of the numerous California Sea Lions lying on it. You can stand on the dock above them and have a very close encounter.
You guys need a Leatherman for the center console of your truck, I was really scared watching you trying to cut the zip ties on the bear spray.

Appreciate the offer! I don't think the InReach is in the cards for now. We're only here for another few very short weeks. And....we don't hike out to sketchy holes in the ice. 😂 (although I'm sure the Ice Field itself was also dangerous) -J
Candied ginger really helps . You can get them from most bulk food stores.
For sure! It was the lifesaver for Kalyn on the cruise. -J
The wildlife is such a great appeal about Alaska! Another epic hike for you guys! 😊
It really is. I'm still in awe of how many eagles we've seen while we've been up here. -J
Strawberry jam on top of the peanut butter, more jelly than peanut butter!
The right way! -J
@12:14 you missed a good video insert from the movie anchorman when he says "60% of the time it works every time"🤣
BHAHAHAHA! Yes indeed we did! 😂 -J
I'm glad you guys are safe and in a comfortable place. stay safe and have fun!
I'm with wildrvlife about jelly for moisture and not contaminating your peanut butter. What a great group!!
lol - Craig is certain that if he were to look in our jelly jar it would be full of peanut butter from contaminated knives. 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading 😆 lol! That's great!!
getting stuck is part of the adventure Guys
Indeed. -J
Hell yeah, spray the mama steal the cubs! Love it
They’re cute!
Our fave time of the week!!!
That makes us so happy! - K
Thanks for the video! Looks Cold!
It's been getting a bit chilly! lol It's like we're up north or somthin. 😂 -J
Hey you guys have pretty cool channel love the Alaska trip . be safe and take care god bless.
Thank you so much. Appreciate you taking the time to watch. -J
This was REAL! Amazing video. 2 great couples knocking out of the park. Thanks
So glad you enjoyed!
No! Peanut butter on both sides so it doesn't get soggy 😂
That’s an acceptable alternative. 😄 -J
We continue to enjoy your adventures and are happy to see you surviviing them!
Another great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! -J
Nice adventure!!! Seward rocks and is one of nicest places in Alaska. So glad you are enjoying yourselves 👍👍👍
Really enjoyed the Peninsula! -J
I love traveling with you guys. 😊
The seasick issue can be resolved with acupressure bracelets. They work great, and are available at most drugstores or possibly Walmart. I wore them for a week on a cruise. Only caveat: you must take them off as soon as you’re on land.
I'll have to give them a try sometime! -J
That was a great video!! Looks like you are really have a great trip. Thanks for taking us along with you. Get some rest and see you next week.
LOL "Yeah Us" Cracked me up
haha. Yup. Just one of those days. -J
Great video! It was good meeting you guys at the Gold Mint trailhead in Palmer. Thanks for the Major Marine recommendation, we got lucky on our trip, went yesterday. What a beautiful sunny day. Raining today.
So so glad you got a gorgeous day for your tour!! Any glacier action?! -J
LOL -J
@@OpenRoading Thanks for the tip! We love bakeries!
Hope you guys are having a blast🎉
So far! 🏆-J
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Makes me want to go to Alaska in the future. Can't wait for the next adventure.
Thanks so much for watching! -J
Great video J&K! :-)
Thanks so much for watching! -J
Fun to watch the adventures!
Thanks for taking the time! -J
I’ve had a lot of regrets about not taking the lulu belle while we were there! -J
Humpback 🐋!! Beautiful cruise photos 💙 glad it wasn't to bad for you. Thank you for sharing!! Safe travels 🙌
Thank you! -J
That looks like an amazing trip. Loved seeing all of the wildlife.
It was! We really wish the seas had been calmer because we felt like we didn’t do it justice with our photos. All the motion made long lenses impossible. -J
Yay! No complaints! I know things are challenging but keep going there's something new around every corner. Lucky ducks!
Thanks for Sharing...
glad you enjoyed the video! And our mishaps and adventures. 😁 -J
We did that cruise shd it was so ruff he didn't go out into the open ocean. Still it was great.
❤❤🎉🎉😊😊 It's wonderful sharing this adventure with you! What beautiful scenery! Stay well and safe!
Your videos put a smile on my face. We so enjoyed Canada and Alaska when we went there for four months in 2018.
Another great video,
stunning views, very glad you had no bear encounters ,
Felt for you both l get very sea sickness , it's not pleasant
Thanks for keeping it real
Aussie fan 💚
You should carry your bear spray on a carabiner on the outside of your backpack. Enjoy your hike!
😉🇨🇦🚶♂️🚶♀️
We had it accessible in a open topped pouch. 😀 -J
Really awesome vlog! Thanks for bringing us along!
How about PB and Honey!!!!
I love myself a good PB&H from time to time. I'm also known to slather that on saltines. -J
I have to say…I loved watching this episode! Thank you guys!
Thank you so much for being here! - K
Princess Bride ref??? I KNEW there was a good reason I subscribed to you guys. 🙂
It’s the BEST movie! -K
A GREAT VIDEO ANNAMAY
If you want bears to avoid you - make lots of noise - bells work very well.
At the risk of starting an online debate that spirals out of control...Here's a bit of info from the National Parks Service:
"Bear bells may be a popular item to put on your backpack, but they don’t effectively warn a bear you’re in the area. Bears won’t hear the bells until you’re too close. Yelling, clapping, and talking are more effective ways of alerting a bear to your presence."
But...I will say as a hiker I would prefer people not walk the trails constantly yelling and clapping. 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading It's really hard for me not to comment on your comments, because the majority of them just plain make me 🤣🤣🤣 out loud, like this one!
@@aliceinoregonland3942 Haha - I hope they are entertaining. Sometimes I'm afraid people might take me too seriously in here. -J
Wow’s 2 great adventures. Glad you got out of the bad spot and into a better place. Thanks From Wisconsin
Thanks so much for watching! -J
A bummer you couldn't stay on the beach. But that incline would have been even worse if it rained while there. Glad you made it up the hill!
Very true...if that road had been at all wet we would have been stuck there till it dried out I'm sure. -J
I put my peanut butter on one slice and enough jelly for flavor on the other slice.
My brother smears his jelly on the peanut butter and he likes thick peanut butter and jelly.
You're brother sounds like a good man. 😁 -J
No 4 wheel drive for me.
