@@davidsoux from my understanding small parts of semp was changed after he left, only because oli said antivist was slightly influenced by Jona during the fact or fiction interview.

How do you know it's an honest account of what went down? It's a 1 sided opinion. And no break up is pleasant. So he could be talking from a very bitter perspective
FACTS 🤝 Especially, when Jordan (on Robb Flynn’s podcast) refused to speak on Jona’s being fired, but Robb (in the framing and conditions he briefly met Jona under) was speaking of Jona fondly.
Robb kept pressing Jordan (not in a rude way or anything), and so Jordan only said, “Things were bad, and had been bad, but the stuff that were going on was… bizarre shit, to be honest with you. It’s not really my place to speak on though. But yeah, what were going on was.. truly bizarre.”
Edit: as far as, “accountable version of events,” Jona fluffs himself up here vs what’s provable. How?
He said here, “.. Conservatively, I’d say I wrote at least 25% of [Sempiternal].” What he says there without speaking it is, “Oh, I wrote 25% of the material for Sempiternal -IF NOT MORE THAN THAT. 25% is being conservative about it.”
Easy fact check: get out your album booklet for, “Sempiternal,” or hop on Spotify, and click the 3 dots next to each and every track on the deluxe edition of, “Sempiternal,” as it has the most tracks.
Jona only has credits on ONE (1) song; that song is, “Sleepwalking.” So, no, he didn’t, “conservatively,” write, “25%,” of Sempiternal.
To fact check that think about this: he’s legally due profits from any material he worked on. If you wanted to posit, “Oh, well BMTH don’t like Jona, so they just aren’t giving him writing credit?”
That would be an INSTANT lawsuit with solid grounds. Given that over 10 years have gone by and there’s never been one? Dude’s full of it more than likely.
Due to when this interview of his came out? It makes me wonder if, “R.i.p. (duskCOre RemIx) on NeX GEn is written about Jona.
Some people suggested the aforementioned track was about Jordan, but (A) Oli worked on that song’s lyrics WITH JORDAN in Season 2 of the making of Post Human on TH-cam. (B) Oli has said, “I’ll never have a bad word to say about Jordan. There’s wounds on both sides that’ll take time to heal, but it’s nothing he & I couldn’t fix if we went out for a drink together. He’s going to flourish and we want to see him succeed. Like any breakup, it’s never clean. But, there’s no headline there. Like, I’m not going to B.S. you and say, “Oh it was all amicable and stuff.”
And, that makes sense: Jordan mentioned being worried about •his children •his wife •and his time at constant from lockdown forward. Oli & Jordan unintentionally became workaholics and by proxy made Matt, Mat, and Lee feel pushed out. And, Oli hit a point of burnout and not enjoying himself anymore.
It makes sense if tempers flared with a lot of, “Oh yeah well do you know how I feel?!” Type stuff + “Huh.. why do I feel the way that I do?”
“Antivist,” is already about Jona, so I wouldn’t be surprised if, “R.i.p.,” is about him as well considering when this dropped vs when you can watch Oli & Jordan remotely recording the, “I’m sorry… did my back hurt your knife?” line.
I think he was an incredible asset to BMTH and I miss his influence to be honest. Dude is an excellent songwriter.
the Jona years were an incredible era of Bring Me the Horizon. they were already maturing in terms of songwriting, but they really leveled up in terms of their live performance once Jona joined the band. Jona brought not only a great stage presence, but really tight playing and more talent with his killer back up vocals. it seemed like the rest of the guys really stepped up their game once he came on board. There Is A Hell is my favorite BMTH album and is one of my all time favorite albums still to this day. it came out my sophomore year of high school, and brings back some really great memories. thank you Jona for your contribution to the album and to that special time in my life!

There is a hell was such a groundbreaking album. There’s something special there that isn’t captured in any of their latest albums - even though they still make good music and their production is excellent.
Miss jona, will never forget him climbing to the top of the stage in 2011 at Leeds fest. Very underrated guitarist.

Man it's no so easy to share your journey on the digital public stage like this and thanks for that Jona , especially when you feel the earth has been ripped out from underneath when your life is on a certain trajectory and you have triggers that bring up memories. Nice video! So interesting to learn all these facts straight form Jona. I always wondered why he left and just narrowed it down to artistic differences considering sempiternal was such a different album and he was always a metalcore/deathcore guy. It's kind of sad to hear they treated him like an outsider, I can relate to that. Anyway good luck Jona!

IKTPQ has been my favorite band since I found them in 2006. When I found out Jona had joined BMTH I was so excited. Sucked that it didn’t work out in the end but man they made some great music together.
One of the nicest guys from a band I have ever met. Was working in Adelaide and we got talking about music. Before i left the job site he actually gave me a IKTPQ album to listen to.
Saw them live in a very small venue with Jona. Such a great experience. Loved this album so much.

There is a hell was the first new metalcore album that really hooked me in start to finish, it feels like a movie.
Was really pleased to see him live in I killed the prom queen right after he left bmth.
I love all of the music Jona has been a part of. It would be cool to have heard more of his writing with the band. I like BMTH and respect them for always changing but I definetely listen to There is a Hell and Sempiternal the most. I started with Count Your Blessings back in 06, but honestly Hell/Sempiternal are far superior to the first two albums. It would be cool to see Jona join them on stage again some day.

damn, this finally answered all the rumours. kudos to jona for the honest take. seems like a top bloke. hell is solid metalcore album but sempiternal really is an album that put bmth beyond core spectrum. jona and ed butcher (iktpq) always be my favourite duo. good luck to you man

It’s really such a shame that they put him out like. But…. It’s very good that Jona has found closure amongst everything. Regardless of what circulates online, it’s been a decade now and he’s grown. BMTH has grown as well. The contributions Jona made to the band were undoubtedly irreplaceable. We all do stupid stuff when we’re young and it happens. But we grow.
One of my favourite times seeing the band are with Jona, he put so much more aggression into the band and I wish things has worked out

There Is a Hell is their best album imo. As I think it’s their heaviest which is what I enjoy most. Was disappointed when he got the flick especially as they started going away from the heavy stuff. Their music since is still great though and they’re one of my favourites. Unfortunate it didn’t end on better terms, but I think everyone that was a fan of them back then knew the immaturity of BMTH, I think if it happened now it would’ve been a lot smoother.
You think it's their heaviest? You must be talking about emotionally or something, right? Because CYB was Deathcore and that SS started learning more towards Metalcore, and then There is a Hell was another step away from being as heavy. Great album, but I wouldn't call it the heaviest musically.
@@closinginonclosure I think its emotionaly heavier, althout CYB is heavier by default for being pure deathcore, There is a hell goes to so many places, from heavy (blacklist/Aligator blood) to pure melody (Blessed with the curse/Dont go), or just overall caos (it never ends), which makes it a very complete album.
The starter is also very powerful and catches the listener in seconds.
Maybe im being biased because its my fav album, but i feel like it was their best approach and balance between deathcore and metalcore, while creating new melodies, respecting new and old fans.
@@closinginonclosure no I mean the music. I find the instruments to be heaviest on TIAH, I’m not musically knowledgeable so I won’t bother trying to explain, but when I listen to all their albums I find it the heaviest.
@@closinginonclosure although tbh when I think about it for a minute I’m probably just focusing too much on songs like Crucify Me, Alligator Blood and what not. As a whole yes it probably wouldn’t be right to say it’s their heaviest album. But still very much their best imo.

There is a hell was a great album. Jona definitely had an influence on it because that album has such a unique sound and feel. Just dark tunnel with a light at the end of the road which is actually a train.
I never knew it took so many years that this guy was behind the sempiternal album big respect for this guy .. i knew that feeling that being in a group that you dont belong but you made a big contribution but its nothing for anyone who gained from it

Jona weinhofen is such underated guitarist, back then when MV Visions BMTH out on TH-cam, Caparison guitar, that was badass moments that i like it very much.
I have same feeling & moment join in metalcore band like Jona, but its great Jona could make living enjoy from it. Its not easy to be musician & rockstar at the same time 😊

Really feel for the guy. I was shafted by a touring band last year and it huuuurts man. Co-wrote them an album which is bringing them success, then had to take some time off due to a VERY serious family matter, and was just replaced without a shred of understanding or decency. Sometimes, like in other areas, people in bands are just plain a-holes and nothing will change that.
I saw Bring me live in 2011 on Machine head's tour for Locust, There is a hell had been out a year at that point and was the current set list for live shows, the album will always hold a place in my heart especially for memories from that night, shame they got bottled to hell from machine head fans though.
Jona to me still is one of the most fun guitarists to watch live. He had so much stage presence in BMTH and really left a hole when they parted ways with him that to this day hasn't been filled. You could really see the hurt in his eyes when he talked about how all of this went down too. It kinda did confirm my suspicions ever since though and that the band has basically become the Jordan & Oli show. I mean you can literally see what Jona was talking about whenever they post clips of them being in studio.. it's just Jordan & Oli doing their thing with no Lee or Matt or anyone else in sight.
True, Lee was the shy one and Jona working well with Oliver kind a sad how things went down.
Yeah, it’s been like that for years now. Makes me feel bad for them. It’s kind of a shame. Their new single, Lost, only features Oli in the entire music video. Pretty sure their management doesn’t give a shit anymore. I’m like “what’s the point of the other ones in the band if it’s just Jordan and Oliver making music all the time?”
Jona is such an honest and kind soul. I don't think I've ever heard him talk down about anyone in previous bands when things went sour. He's always just been an it is what it is.
In about 2012 or 2013, I went to this "seminar" for up and coming bands in Adelaide, and he was one of the speakers (along with Martin Eldridge, and then manager of The Beards).
It was shortly after he'd left BMTH. A lot of bands were just asking about his leaving BMTH and rumours of things. Even then he was like "here's a shortened version of what happened" (essentially the same as what he says here), and then was like "enough about gossip. It's in the past, and doesn't matter. Let's talk about what advice I can give to help you guys out on your journey as musicians/bands."

There is a hell is a really underrated album mate, the hardcore energy you brought to that album combined with the symphonic elements made it something unique
When you listen to Hell and Sempiternal you can tell which riffs and parts are Jonas for sure. He was a good addition.
It's a shame it didn't work out long term. Sometimes bands expect more from members that aren't original members. Good luck to Jona.
Jona joined the band when they was in a transitional period however the band didn’t know that they was in a transitional period Jona has always been a great guy and he was an amazing asset for BMTH hoping for another Prom Queen reunion sometime soon.
I loved the Jona BMTH era. Great music and live shows that'll never happen again, I didn't even know he recorded some stuff in Sempiternal.
I'm over bmth now, especially their new stuff, not including amo, some cool songs on there, but will never beat songs like Fuck, Blacklist or Suicide Season

BMTH was at their best with Jona, not even mad he left though because he dropped Beloved with IKTPQ which is one of the most goated metalcore albums of the last decade
I remember it being a big deal when Jona joined the band because there was a lot of controversy about why Curtis was kicked out or left. Curtis had a lot of fan girls for sure. I think he and Oli were the most popular.
I remember some OG fans not liking there is a hell album because it was once again, a further departure from BMTH heaviness… but in retrospect, it seemed like that was the plan.
The second BMTH album was when Oli started the screaming/shouting thing. Then every subsequent album it turned into more of a shout and less of a scream, up until he started singing and there was very little shouting and no screaming.
It’s cool that they want to change and adapt and that’s cool that a lot of people like it, but as someone who was a fan back in the day, the first 2 albums is what I will always consider the real BMTH.
Imagine if Jona stayed and Jordan still joined. Would've been massive.

I camped outside the tour bus for Oli, Oli was smoking a roach hanging out the door of the tour bus and never once approached me or replied to me and the others but Jona was kinda enough to come over and sign my Drop Dead T-shirt.

I went to that show, was the first time it was ever played, and people didnt know that Jordan was part of the band yet so seeing six of them on stage was super weird
It’s possible that he didn’t write or record any of the riffs for Shadow Moses even if he was still in the band when it was written.

Very likely they re-recorded it so legally they didn’t have to give him any royalties from the album. Would explain the beef and settlement he talks about

Honestly There is a hell is one of the albums I keep coming back to even all these years. I think Jona really played an important part in the band and it'd been interesting which direction it might've taken the band if they had kept him in.

We’re just doing it for the love my man, there’s no budget for editors. Our remote pods are cut automatically with the riverside studio software we use the facilitate it. The in-studio pods are usually smoother

funny thing is the most enjoyable era of BMTH was the periods when Jona was in the band. At least for me
My least favorite part of BMtH is that he got treated like he was a pawn, not a brother in the band. Being told by the manager that you're out is GARBAGE. I'd rather my friends tell me even it's it's obviously not working out.
They were young and naive. They were already bitter about Curtis, so I can see why it went that way. Young scene kids in bands have the worse hormones.

I don’t blame any of them for acting like young dumb kids because they WERE young dumb kids. I think it’s totally fair to have been upset at the time, but it was really pleasant to hear the way Jona’s processed everything and come to terms with it and himself.

I think this is one of the awkward parts of being in a band, where there doesn't seem to be a right or wrong way. They handled it how any professional organization would, with the manager basically playing the role of HR. I know we like to think of bands we like as all being friends, but at the end of the day they also have to manage a coworker relationship with each other, and I kinda get having the manager be the one to break the news.

Something happened , he either fell out with them bigstyle or they were never close. 3 years being that close to someone you would talk to them if you cared. Oli has had a fair amount of negative attention over the years so seems like something else happened to me. The guys are well known around Rotherham and Sheffield especially Lee so would be sad to hear that there wasn't any real grievances and they were just being dicks. A goodbye after all that time is such a basic show of human decency.

The Jona era was the best, period.
Sometimes you have to leave people behind in order to move forward. It sounds like Jona wasn't taking the band very seriously and the rest of them were ready for the next step in their careers. You can say what you want about bring me, they've obviously changed genres over the years and make a little bit of everything now, not just the metalcore/deathcore stuff. And that's what I love the most about them, they like to experiment with different sounds and are very versatile.

The vegan strip club (Casa Diablo) is still open. The fun thing about them is they’re directly across the street if a steakhouse strip club (Acropolis) and the steakhouse strip club is infamous for being MILES better then the vegan club (the owners also have their own cow farm, so they’re famous for their steaks). So it’s pretty dang funny.

Been listening to this dude's music for ages, good to hear hes doing well. Kinda shitty of the band to ditch him but hes probably better off considering the direction they went in
