I adored this game as a kid, given that it was my first PS1 game. The memories of playing this for weeks upon weeks after school, and even sneaking in a half hour before running for the bus. Nothing is more nostalgic for me than this absolute diamond.

One of my all time favorite games. This game really revolutionized the way 3D games control. It feels like a lot of little experiments with how the joysticks could be implemented, and it really nailed a lot of them.
Fantastic music, funny comedy, amazing level variety... Ape Escape is super innovative and at least a little underrated.

this game doesn't only bring nostalgia to the game but also reminds me of the nature, toys, fun, and such that was part of the activity I had with my friends and family. When it rains, I smell the "Primordial Ooze" from the early 2000s. When I got a new toy as a kid, it was basically a "new gadget!". Hot days with high energy were like "Molten lava".
If you didn't notice, everything in quotes is music tracks from the game.
This game was pretty much how it feels like to be a kid without a smartphone but with toys and outdoor activities. I remember controlling my friend's RC car, using hula hoops, shooting with a slingshot, going swimming with all my clothes on, catching bugs with a net, and taking an expandable wooden cloth hanger and imagining it being the magic/power punch.

One of my favorite games too.
Having to control the RC car with the right stick while moving with the left blew my mind and made me realize the potential of the twin sticks.
I also spent hours playing the proto-Geometry Wars minigame.

I remember I had a demo for this, but no dual shock controller on which to play it. "What a con," I thought to myself back then. "Analogue controllers will never catch on! D-pad forever!" I was a very silly child.

I am so glad you decided to do Ape Escape!
It was in the "Always wanted to play it" category from when I was younger, but I didn't get the chance to until it popped up on PS4 last month, and it surpassed everything I even expected. The game is pure fun, overflowing with charm.
If anyone reading this has a PS4 or PS5, likes platformers and has $10 to spare, you owe it to yourself to play Ape Escape

Talking about great ps1 platformers, have you played Tombi!?
I had the demo and played it dozens of times as a kid. When I actually got to play the game as an adult it actually held up pretty well. Simple but fun and charming.

I have! I like it a lot, though never beat it. I got pretty lost at one point, but I'll revisit and try to beat it sometime. Really love it's visual style and sense of absurd humor. Sequel's great too.
