Huge thank you!!!! Took me all of 5 minutes to fix my 13 Road King pohleece. Was so tired of the light was about to drag it down to the the shop. Looked at it once before half heartedly tried to trace the wiring mess. Dug in today and my ABS light is history.
Just fixed the broken wire and the other one was starting to go bad so I just repaired both in same spot took bike for a ride ABS light and brakes work right again 2008 Ultra Classic FLHTCU. Thank you John for the video fixed her at home.
JOHN: 2017 FLTRXS. Couldn't figure out why front brake starting to sqeal when I applied rear brake. Got worse. Found left front rotor was warm; right front was cold. Totally perplexed. Asked the service manager at my local dealer and he, as well as the mechanic he consulted, were at a loss. Then I watched this video and learned at 5:00 that the "Reflex System" applies the LF brake when the rear brake is applied. I imagine that the this Reflex system makes the LF take most of the load and therefore, it wears out the soonest. Is this your experience, or, is there something in my system that is out of wack? Thanks in advance.
I’m needing some advice/guidance. I have a 2013 heritage softail classic, 12,000 miles and recently notice my brake light was t working. I changed the bulb and still inop, checked the pig tails and still inop. Showing a b2121 code, can’t find the fuse box (everyone said under the seat but I assure you it’s not there) and don’t know what else to do.
Hey John. Love your videos. I am not a Harley guy. I just sold my last two Hondas and was going to retire from riding. However, You make me want my last bike to be a Harley. Thanks for all you do. I like your how to vids the best
Great videos John. So I have the C1032 code on my 2009 Ultra and a solid light. I can make the light blink by moving the wire in question but goes back to solid when I move the front wheel side to side. Is the fix simply soldering the wire or are there additional changes so it won't happen again?
on my 17 RGS I have the constant ABS light and two codes C1025 and C102. I have the Pitbull 18" wide tire kit and never had an issue until just this Saturday. My front tire has just worn down to the wear bar. Have you seen these codes/issues due to just worn tires? Is it possibly that sensitive?
Hay man I’m still confused lol so I’m looking at buying a new wheel like right now and it says for none abs bikes, my question is I can still use this wheel I just have to either do the barring or the plug in thing and I’m good??????
2008 Road King Classic, ABS light on solid, checked front wheel speed sensor wiring as in this video, Thank you BTW, no broken/open wiring... Not sure where to turn next. I have the factory shop manual and laptop with pro street software and cable. I don't see a code stored...
I have a 2012 Road Glide and it has a 21 inch front wheel, but I'm experiencing a problem with the ecm recognizing my ABS and the rear brake seems to have to be pumped in order for it to catch. Advise please.
Great video! I have a 2010 ultra. All stock. I've had 2 new front wheel sensors installed and the light still blinks all the time. Could the broken wire cause that? Any dangers in riding it anyway till they find the cause????
Bad wire, bad abs ECU, bad connection.... No danger other then the abs wont work. The danger on 08-13 abs bikes is the ABS HCU. They lock up and create a total brake loss of either front or rear brake. Search "harley abs recall" for info. John Maxwell did a vid a couple years ago on that also.
My wife has a 2006 HD Softail and her rear wheel has been locking up and a local HD shop said its her ABS, how can that be if it did not come out till 2008? and if this is possible would the front cause the rear wheel to lock up? wouldn't that be the rear WSS-ABS ?
2008 Road King, Got a set of non ABS wheels for a steal. The front is going to 21" and rear to 18". Can I put normal ABS Bearings in the Rims or do I need to buy a 21" ABS Bearing and 18" ABS Bearing?
I have a 2018 1200 Iron. I have just fitted an LED HEADLIGHT and on running the bike the ABS LIGHT is staying on solid. Also the heated HD grips are no longer working. Ive checked all the fuses and they are OK. Any ideas?
Ok got a question for you... My buddy has a 03 harley davidson classic non abs with a 21 front wheel. He is talking about trading the bike in and putting his stock wheel back on and selling me the 21in wheel. Will it fit on a 08 street glide with abs if i change out the bearings.
I watched guys at MMI fail to pay attention during HD chassis course and proceed to loose their minds on the ABS bleeding. Then I watched other guys TRY to stop the abs from pushing back after bleeding collapse, for some odd reason and be surprised they couldn’t. Kinda scary 😂 . The fact that not everyone at MMI has a serious mechanic mentality and are either, failing a compression test upstairs or too cocky to ever be as good as guys who can never learn enough or have enough experience, was VERY shocking actually. Because MMI advertises as a very prestigious school. And in a way it is. But from the inside. It’s not what you might think. Or wasn’t for me at least. Maybe that’s shame on me for expecting bikes that didn’t have stripped bolts or broken pieces and much more serious students. But I was surprised to see some people who, well just shouldn’t be there. Which puzzled me because MMI isn’t easy to get into. Granted their “application” is not as formal as it seems. It’s not an Ivy League school. But it’s a tedious and lengthy processes. So all the effort to get in. And the money “spent” (30k roughly for the core program not brand specific and 1 manufacture elective) and they screw around and barley pass classes. Or don’t. And others are trying to out squeeze the abs system. And the 3rd group is us. No disrespect or anything to anyone just sharing my experience. With both Harley ABS and MMI students.
My roadking abs worked fine when i had my 21 but niw that i have a 23 now it works fine at slow speeds but comes on solid when i add more speed . So i think imma try that harness cus ive already replaced both sensors and both abs bearings .
On the older bikes with the wiring harness problem you call out, what code will get thrown. I have an 2011 Ultra throwing intermittent 1025 codes. Both wheel bearings have been replaced. Dealer service mgr says "we've checked everything" ....20 miles later abs light comes on. frustrating.
@@TheHarleyTech Thanks John, I'm pulling the fairing this afternoon. Id be surprised if they haven't checked that, ....but.... then again, I can see where an intermittent connection could cause this on again/off again problem.
On My 2018 street glide I left Oklahoma to BBB. When I got there I had to have my buddy push me into my spot. The from Roaders never got to hot though. My break lever was so tight I couldn’t squeeze it. Got home Harley did replace my front brakes and roaders and cleaned the calipers. It gets a little tight but loosens up. Anyone know what it is?
Hey John, I'm trying to figure out exactly how the ABS works. I have a 16 Roadster. You say when you apply the rear brake, the ABS will act upon only one front caliper. How does this work? Are one of the of two lines coming from the ABS module to the front block only going to the one caliper? Is that why there are two lines going to the front instead of just one?
Your XL doesn’t have linked brakes, which is what you’re describing. ABS is simply anti lock, meaning it won’t allow the wheel to slide. In your case it would stop either front or rear from locking up (depending on which wheel has too much pressure applied). Linked brakes (found on touring and some trikes) makes the left front caliper work when the rear brake is applied, though it is not the same force. It also applies some pressure to the rear caliper when the front brake is applied. That feature is only found on models with ABS, but it isn’t the same thing as ABS. Hopefully that makes sense.
@@TheHarleyTech how are like your videos. So I have a 2020 street glide special my local hd dealership installed a 23 and I've had some issues with the traction control. Starts blinking and I have no throttle. Once you hold the button and cut it off your can ride it. So I took the bike back to the dealership and they took the wheel off. Saying they can't fix it but I paid 308.00 for them to put it on and no offer of a refund. I'm no mechanic they should have known I just ride the bike. Do you know of an issue to fix the Tc with the 23 on the new bikes?
I have stock wheels but get a severe WOBBLE in the front wheel when I apply rear brake....2018FLHTKANV 1012 miles on it. gonna take it in this week....PUCKER factor X10
it's a sweet ass bike, more money than I have! Personally, I like the legend blue denim more than the blue/black. I'm not even a fan of denim paint, but that eagle on the fairing. the stretched saddlebags. man, that's a sweet bike. I don't have that kinda money, either, though...
Oh geez. It seems like not a ton, but depending on the year, it can be a fair amount. The obvious for all years is a tour pak and passing lamps on the ultra.
i have an 08 HD ultra classic electra glide , when i jump on my bike for a ride the brakes squik bad until i have braked a few times then it goes away, any advise
So, let me get this straight. Because an owner failed to replace the brake fluid every 2 years (as stated in the maintenance schedule) the motor company is being forced by the NTSB to do it for the owners for free??
I just pulled the owners manual for 2010 touring models. Under the maintenance section, there is a note that says to replace the brake fluid every 2 years. Oh well. I'm not effected as I sold my 2010 (non-ABS) and I now have a 2017. So in 2019 I WILL be flushing the system. Thanks for another great video!
Maybe that's the complaint. That it was just a footnote at the bottom of the page instead of a specific line item like the Fork Oil which says REPLACE.
I think is is a load of crap. If you are doing maintenance on your bike, you need to have the service manual, not the owners manual, and we both know that info is in the service manual. As soon as I heard about the recall, i called out the real issue, Poor maintenance, not changing the brake fluid. People complain about the cost of the bikes. Things like this don't help matters any.
