- New Coppercoat.... Is it time to replace our Coppercoat? 9 Years and 15,000 miles. We have had great value despite the issues with poor application on the keel. We take a look at what has to be done to re-coat the antifouling. Enjoy the video.
Welcome to our channel.
We are now in season 7
In 2018 we left the UK to sail around the world slowly. After Brexit, a "Pandemic" and major heart surgery we are still sailing, documenting our travels and showing you what we have learned so far.
We are hoping to complete our journey, and travel right around the world even if we have had a few setbacks along the way. We will continue at our own pace and that may be fast or slow. We want to be sure not to miss anything and have stories to tell our grandchildren when we are old and grey.
Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.
We do have a second channel YOUR DRONE TV It is a mix of music from classical to blues, from Opera to Punk all with stunning drone footage.

Masterclass Ant, excellent stuff. It is a demanding application regime even with four of you.
As they say, if you want a good job doing - do it yourself, and as I say there is a reason a contractor can do the job in half the time you can - because he is only doing half a job.
You have a beautiful, well cared for sailing yacht!
Thanks Marrie. ❤️
Currently watching your video as we are hauling out and getting copper coat in May here in Greece. First of all, hope you're feeling better! Is that yellow hose for your black water so you can use your head? The nail polish to save the anodes is interesting! Will need to research that for us to do as well! Will most likely have more questions as I continue through the video...
thanks for watching. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.

CopperCoat is the best antifoul paint I know.
Very important it has to be applied as CC states, then it will last and work for at least 8 years.
I know of people that had bad experiences but that was all down to bad application.
Absolutely. We have been using it a long time on more than one boat. Only issues we ever had was with Osmotech/Clipper marine's poor application. Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid
Coppercoat does not work for me & I have had it done twice. Failed both times. The bloke that does the jet washing at St Helier says that he does quite a few coppercoated boats & they are all useless .. I know several people who agree with me that paint works better. I have Shogun 033 on the keel & that lasts a season. The coppercoat has to be lifted mid season as well as laid up for the winter
I am confused, I can see green areas on the hull, strange USA and UK have differences in the instructions.
USA instruction
"Repairs and Touch ups
To repair damaged or thin Coppercoat, start by sanding the area with 80-grit sandpaper on a DA or RO sander, over-lapping the good Coppercoat by an inch.
==>> You must sand off all the “green” until you get to the copper color."
UK instruction
Re-application: After 10, 15 or even 20 years Coppercoat may need to be re-applied.
==>> Firstly, simply sand the surface of the old Coppercoat with 80-180 grit sandpaper to remove any powder like verdigris from the surface.
Then wash this sanded surface with plenty of freshwater to remove all dust and any salts. After the hull has been allowed to dry
(overnight or longer) a thin layer of Coppercoat resin only (Pack A + Pack B) should be applied, followed by the full new
treatment of Coppercoat, comprising of 4/5 coats applied wet on tacky, all in one day.
You would have to ask Coppercoat. However, as with any surface finishing you will need to have a well keyed preparation surface that the new coating can bond to. This too must be be bonded well. We dont have any issues with delamination So we think the key to success is the prep and ensuring a good bond and the correct application. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.
I think the reading is the issue not the instructions. You quoted the North American instructions for repair and touch ups and the U.K. ones for reapplication. Can you not figure that one out?
