Soul Reaver was my childhood, me my cousin and a couple of our friends lived and breathed Soul Reaver back in our early teen years, so happy they finally remastered this icon of a game
I really love one specific tiny detail about Raziel's new character model. If you look closely at his ribcage (at 5:03 for example) you see this straight line on the bones on the left side (Raziel's right side actually). First I thought the texture doesn't fit there, but then I realized that it is in fact a bone fracture. This is what happens if a blade meets your ribcage. They gave him battle scars, and that's just beautiful.
So excited to see a couple of my favorite old games get the remastered treatment after all this time. And who knows if these games do well maybe They might consider doing the same for the rest of the series.
@@kaizammit feels like the touch up has moved a lot of the grime and grit of the old game though. To me, the fact that Raziel's clothes were brown lent credence to the story, of where you were thrown to and rottef away. So feels a bit seeing his arms and feet look so clean. Though hope it goes well for them, I would have loved for more Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain, has been one of my favourite stories/worlds since childhood. Would have loved to see a story of how Raziel got his gift, the wings.

I tried it once at a game show and loved it, never saw the light of day sadly, they always throw this franchise under the bus. There was also another Vampire title (Legacy of Kain) again, under the bus.
pc on steam preorder already , i am a huge fan , spent countless days roaming the world of nosgoth , adored the way there was so many different ways to kill an enemy , the boss fights , the puzzles , wished for ages they would do a remaster , always saw fan based remakes and was let down , never thought this would be a reality , paid my preorder , can't wait for the originals with that amazing storyline , fantastic voice actors ets , im 100% down , bring it on !!
I've got mine too! I actually went and purchased all the other games as well, currently playing Blood Omen 2 as I some how missed that one growing up. Did you catch those games?
@@kaizammit i never played blood omen or blood omen 2 , i tried on pc but it was way to clunky or needed an emulator , i did read that blood omen 2 is also going to be remastered but am unable to find the source of where i read that , was just too excited to see the game alive and able to play on pc bigger and better but with everything i loved . I have just one question , ( when you played Legacy of kain and went to the tomb of the Sarafan and found all the brothers names on the tombs , how many times did you replay the game searching every possible location looking for Turel ? ) countless hours for me to find he was not in legacy of kain , but he did make an appearance in soul reaver 2. , Not gunna lie i want to soar on the winds again , spear enemys , throw them in water and fire , light them on fire , burn them in sunlight and the list goes on , from the spectral realm to the physical realm The story was brilliantly done and the most epic vampire game that i have played , i am so glad they did remaster and not remake it would not have been the same without the voices of Michael Bell and Simon Templeman etc , if they do do a remaster of the blood omens im down for that too
Love the comment! Regarding Blood Omen 2 on PC. There's a really easy fix for it. I typed in Blood Omen 2 mod and it came up on steam, fixes it all up and allows you to play on an ultrawide monitor. There's also controller support on steam thanks to users, I downloaded someone's Xbox one layout and now I'm playing with a controller, beautiful! If I had discord, I'd share it with you but I'll think about starting discord. I did search for the brother, could never work it out why I couldn't find him. I only played the story once I believe. My first time was the only time because I wanted to keep the core memory.
Two of the all time greats! Excited for the upcoming prequel comic that easily cleared its Kickstarter goal. Here’s hoping this remaster does well and they green light a sequel to Defiance finally.

They would be fantastic options for a full on remake, similar to the resident evil 2 remake. You mentioned you’d love a replica of the sword. I've seen that sword but it was like $400, don't think I can get away with that kind of flash cash haha. The wife would cut me down with it. I've never played the Blood Omen games so this will be a treat for me.
I wasn’t old enough for the first game, but my dad always included in family game night, and I know the ins and outs of soul reaver, again I couldn’t play the 2nd game as I was still young but the game has never left me. 26 years of age and soul reaver made me the gamer that I am today

Would still love to see a full remaster/remake of this franchise. Had such a good story from good omen to soul reaver 2. Although it had an end, still feel there was always something more they could have added to it given the amount of lore there was.
as soon as the trailer dropped, i pre ordered. I played Soul Reaver 1 game when i was maybe 9 on the PS1, i used cheats to get all powers and went straight into the Kain fights. I can barely remember the actual game. I am legitimately looking forward to this. Never played Soul Reaver 2
Can you please explain your comment "the camera on the first one was absolute rubbish"? I honestly don't understand. I've seen other people complain about the "camera angles" in other videos as well but I've never understood it. You actually had complete 360° control of the camera placement in soul Reaver and I always thought that was one of the strengths of the game compared to other games from that time period. Not only could I move the camera to get the exact angle I wanted but I would even use the control to sort of play director and create sweeping camera shots as I was playing. I liked it much better than the majority of games from the time that just had a fixed over the shoulder type of camera placement.
I totally agree, I cannot understand why everyone complained about the camera controls, for me was the best camera control, EVER! It was making the gameplay more "cinematic" while running or fighting. In general, I was using the D-pad only in the fights or to turn 90 degrees, any other movement was controlled by the camera sweep R2, L2 (as I remember). I will miss a lot this camera-sweeping action in the remastered version.

Huge Soul Reaver fan here, so much nostalgia. It's a shame IMO that they went with a super cartoony and bright aesthetic, it would have been so much more gripping and "remastered" if it was dark, grimy and realistic. This to me seems like a HD texture pack but with the same polygons.

I love Legacy of Kain but this looks sub-par. Like a remaster by a mobile game developer. There's no contemplative, gothic atmosphere in this at all. Don't get fooled by Ozar Midrashim here. I'm glad this exist but I'm not sure I'll be playing this at all.
I haven't played this game or looked at it since I was a kid so for me, I think it looks great however, it does look like an upscale type jobby. Not a fan of the lifted lighting either but at present, I'm still rather pleased with it. I'll be happy to play after so many years of missing it. Also, got to support otherwise we'll never get a new title.
You are so ungrateful. The fact that they brought it over for ps4 and 5 means more budget for their future plans. Let's hope we will see more and better LOK content

Also the apologetic disclaimer at the start how the game was inappropriate now? Reroll the trailer now take a good look at the female vampire statue. _Really_ look. Reroll once for each of the following parts and pay attention to the before and after. Face. Neck. Shoulders. Waist. Belly. Hips. Thighs. Same shit different day with these people. They have learned nothing. I just hope we're not so starved for LoK that we let this pass. Aspyr are the ungrateful ones tbh, being allowed to remaster this absolute gem and then pulling crap like that in the background hoping we'll be too busy looking at the rest. I honestly didn't notice either the first time I saw the trailer, then on rewatch I was like huh? And then I found out that this was aspyr and suddenly it all tracks.
Color and lighting look a bit off, like it's too bright or sharp. Hard to express exactly but in a way the old graphics looked better, or were more fitting for the atmosphere. But on the whole it looks fine enough. The part that irks me though; do you remember what aspyr (these guys) did with censoring background art in the tomb raider remasters? Where fans eventually pushed back and made them revert the censorship? Reroll the trailer and take a good look at the female vampire statue. _Really_ look. Reroll once for each of the following parts and pay attention to the before and after. Face. Neck. Shoulders. Waist. Belly. Hips. Thighs. Same shit different day with these people. They have learned nothing. Luckily they don't just have a history of censorship, but also one of buckling when put under enough pressure. I just hope we're not so starved for LoK that we let this pass. I honestly didn't notice either the first time I saw the trailer, then on rewatch I was like huh? And then I found out that this was aspyr and suddenly it all tracks.

I think they are on gog, I know Blood Omen 1 is and that's where the story starts before Raziel is introduced in Soul Reaver.
