Well it goes like this the forth the fifth the minor fall and the major lift the baffled king composing hallelujah Hallelujah hallelujah Hallelujah Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya. I did 3 verses with words associated with my sons birthday. For someone who does not know music , I don't think that I did too bad job. I did this several years ago for his 25th birthday. Great video.
Thank you so much!!! I LOVE singing! My father was a brilliant musician. I have very song emotions with this song and I give myself goosebumps every time I sing it with my heart! This was so helpful for me, a beginner! Thank you.
Pretty sure my soul just orbited both the sun and the moon while watching this. Praying for your week and sending much love from one of many, many people who are insanely grateful for you.
How are you not a huge famous singer already??? Your voice is amazing!!! This is my FAVORITE song in the world and I’m always scanning for all the various covers and never clicked yours since I wasn’t looking for a music lesson but today I did and I’m so glad. Your voice is ethereal.. Please post a full length cover. ❤️
Adding context to content. Some are born with this gift. This video describes how to achieve it. It's what singers would say "feeling" the music. Empaths make great performers.
Dear Freya, I just found your video. It will help me a lot. I'm a 50-y old guy for the first time in my life auditioning for a place at a music institute a month from now. Thank you :) !
@@_etyn Yes it did. I was accepted :) Strange things happened then: I always thought I was a low baritone, but they started training me to be a tenor (!). I progressed fast and my upper range jumped 4 1/2 full notes to B. Mostly classical stuff. So far so good. After a year I began to struggle and my voice locked up and I tired very easily. It turned out that my thyroid gland had given up and was causing structural problems. It took me another year trying to sort this out and getting my medication balanced. By then I got a heap of new problems....and had to leave the institute :(
When Leonard Cohen was asked why he thought this song was so successful he replied, "Because it has such a great chorus." It has been reported that the song originally had 80 verses. I've heard seven of them.
First time here tonight. I just want to learn some tips how to sing this beautiful song but now I can't help falling in love with this woman. Her voice vibrates all over me. Thank you for being the way you and what you taught about the emotion and making that music mine.
Such a beautiful voice (would love to purchase your cd) Love your approach to this wonderful and amazing song. Cohn was so brilliant. I'm personally a Christian, and it can mean something to me, and something else to a Jewish person, and even something emotion to an atheist. There's no right or wrong......it's simplY your own story told in a very brilliant way. Don't over analyze....or criticize another for wha t it means to them. Finally...you have a beautiful way of expressing this beautiful song. Thank you
[Verse 1] Now I've heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do ya? It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing "Hallelujah" [Chorus] Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah [Verse 2] Your faith was strong, but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew ya She tied you to a kitchen chair She broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah [Chorus] Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah [Verse 3] You say I took the name in vain I don't even know the name But if I did, well, really, what's it to ya? There's a blaze of light in every word It doesn't matter which you heard The holy or the broken Hallelujah [Chorus] Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah [Verse 4] I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool ya And even though it all went wrong I'll stand before the lord of song With nothing on my tongue but hallelujah [Chorus] Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah [Outro] Hallelujah, Hallelujah [Additional Lyrics] Baby, I've been here before I know this room, I've walked this floor I used to live alone before I knew you And I've seen your flag on the marble arch Love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah [Additional Lyrics] There was a time you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show it to me, do you? And remember when I moved in you The holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah [Additional Lyrics] Maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you And it's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Brilliant teaching. I understand the swimming in the words to make it a worthwhile exercise.. but Mr Cohen’s version is ... a wonderful prayer ... which I’m actually going to listen to right now. Thank for reminding me

Someone described themselves as "smitten" by your teaching. I was searching for the best word to describe my feelings about your approach and smitten works for me. I was searching for information about the semantics of this song and, although you were not directly addressing this, your presentation about the singing of the song has helped me considerably. I don't sing hardly at all because I suck at it. But after listening to you, I actually feel like I could learn to suck less. I'm very grateful that I discovered you!
Thank you Freya! I haven't sung in a few years and am rewriting words to sing at my daughter's wedding. I have heard it rearranged for weddings several times...Its beautiful. Your guidance was very helpful, on breathing and making it my own... I was overworking my voice. I could use a coach.
You are just such a beautiful gift to us all my darling Freya I love your humility, and I feel love for you everytime I go through any of your videos. Thankyou so very much for teaching your craft so well with explanations. Godbless you always.🙏💞💖.
You are a fabulous singing coach!!! I am a composer/arranger/conductor and haven't ever heard anyone get to the heart of this style of singing. Keep what you are doing! The BEST singing advice anyone could have.

Hello Freya, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful voice with us. I dont sing but I play the violin and you, singing this song, it's just an inspiration for me. Thank you again, I will follow your work.
I'm planning on auditioning with this song for a local talent show. I was freaking out the last few days because I mastered everything except that I couldn't hold the note in the last line of the chorus. Thanks to your video, I finally am able to hold that note the way I want to! I'm very grateful and look forward to watching more of your videos!
There are actually at least 7 verses commonly sung, although different singers have used different verses. And Cohen wrote over 80 verses, and sometimes used some of these "unknown" verses in live performances.
Wow! Thanks loaded with amazing tips. I am also named Freya after a ship my grandfather sailed on in the war. My Aunt is Freya also and my neice also received the moniker as a middle name ...like me... Cheers and THANKS
You have a great voice and this was just what I needed because I’m singing this at my birthday party in a week or two. Thank for confirming the method I was planning to apply.
Hi Freya! I am so glad to have found your channel! I am a beginner at singing publicly, and this video really helps me. I like how you teach and give the example right after. You have a very nice voice. I tried learning from a male coach, but I think it's better for me to learn from a female coach. I look forward to your next videos. Thank you very much!
I did this song for a competition.. And thanks to this video I "sounded better than I was before" and I won the competition:) thank you so much for your help and please continue to make great videos like this!

I miss the high note at the end of 'hallelujah'.
I listen intently for the parts where she demonstrates just to hear her sing it's so beautiful. Wish that also.

It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
[Chorus]

[Verse 4]
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool ya
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the lord of song
With nothing on my tongue but hallelujah
[Chorus]

Baby, I've been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
[Additional Lyrics]
There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
[Additional Lyrics]
Maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light

Ok... this is brilliant. Really capturing the art or interpreting a song so it means something and paints with sound. I’m subscribing!
I'm planning on auditioning with this song for a local talent show. There are actually at least 7 verses commonly sung, although different singers have used different verses. And Cohen wrote over 80 verses, and sometimes used some of these "unknown" verses in live performances.
